to loathe smokers at bus shelters

MrKiplingismypimp · 26/05/2010 11:11

Ive lost count of the amount of times Ive had to stand 10 metres away from 2 particular scummers that smoke at the bus stop every night.

AIBU to wish these people would stop blackening the lungs of my developing fetus and just step away from me and the other non smokers?

Personally, I don't think you're BU - I hate this too.

SilveryMoon · 26/05/2010 11:15

I am a smoker (about to quit. Again), but i thought it wasn't allowed now to smoke under/in bus shelters?
I always move away from other people (if I can)

biddysmama · 26/05/2010 11:16

i hate it when you are sat on a bench with a baby (usually feeding ) and a smoker comes and sits next to you!

and the smokers stood in doorways as well

and i used to be a smoker

Tidey · 26/05/2010 11:18

I suppose they think there's nothing wrong with it because they're outside, but it would be polite of them to move further away.

reikizen · 26/05/2010 11:18

It is horrible, but it is not that long ago that people were allowed to smoke on the top deck of a bus (or even, as my mum relates, the GP would be having a fag whilst you were having your appointment with them!) so it is all a matter of perspective. Personally, I would suggest the bus fumes would be as bad for your fetus as dissipated second hand fag smoke which has passed through a very efficient placenta so I wouldn't worry about that. Or you could walk to the next stop if it is that bad?

MrKiplingismypimp · 26/05/2010 11:18

I dont think you are allowed actually, but everynight these two do it. They seem immune to the huffing of the other people at this bus stop too!

I have a Baby on Board badge too so they realise...

In fact, even if I wasnt pregnant and just a non smoker, this is still not on! (Sorry, Im getting angry again!!!)

belgo · 26/05/2010 11:24

YA most definitely BU to have a Baby on Board sign
Apart from that, YANBU.

winnybella · 26/05/2010 11:25

YANBU.

But Baby on Board badge? Where do you wear it? And what for?

MrKiplingismypimp · 26/05/2010 11:27

My tube journey! haha! LU give them out so people dont have to wonder if you are pregant and offer you a seat (in theory)

OP posts:
porcamiseria · 26/05/2010 11:56

why on earth do you have a baby on board badge????

YANBU to be annoyed, but they are not "blackening the lungs of my developing fetus ", dont exaggerate now!!!!

Alouiseg · 26/05/2010 11:58

Yadnbu! I can't stand smoking anywhere and i'm fed up with people congregating on pavements causing a mushroom cloud.

Am also an ex-smoker

Rafi · 26/05/2010 11:59

But their cigarettes do stink....

No-one's ever going to enforce it at bus stops. I'm just grateful for the smoking ban at train stations.

TiggyR · 26/05/2010 12:27

It really fecks me off that since the indoor smoking ban (which I heartily approve of, BTW) it is now virtually impossible to enjoyt the fresh air and sunshine outside pavement cafes etc, as they have become almost exclusively for smokers, by default. Yet again, we are the poor sesond clas citezens who have to go inside when we'd rather be outside. And yes, in case you were wondering, your smoke is still annoying, even in the open air.

swanandduck · 26/05/2010 12:29

YANBU about the smoking, this annoys me as well.

A Baby on Board badge??? Most people find this annoying enough on cars, but wearing one in person?

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/05/2010 12:35

Please say you are joking about the baby on board badge

Smoking is vile (ex smoker) and breathing in someone's second hand smoke is rotten. Luckily loads of pubs near me have got non-smoking areas in teh beer gardens, and designated areas for teh fag ash lils. Becaue yes, smoke really is annoying even outside.

But, perspective needed. It is far better than it used to be. I rememebr an excrutiating 12 hour flight to Africa in teh smoking section when I was a kid. Yuk. So today's situation is hugely better since the smoking ban.

MrKiplingismypimp · 26/05/2010 13:41

The badge : I thought it was normal practise to wear one? All three pregnant ladies (not including me) in my office do?

Its small, goes on your bag and just lets people know not to elbow you in the belly when they are fighting to get on at Kings Cross? Ive seen thousands of them!

I cant believe they had smoking on planes?! Thats awful!!!

I can't believe you are wearing a Baby on board badge.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/05/2010 13:49

Actually, I can't believe that someone has come up with the idea of a baby on board badge

MrKiplingismypimp · 26/05/2010 13:50

I cant believe you guys dont/didnt. The tube is awful in rush hour.

OP posts:
MrKiplingismypimp · 26/05/2010 13:50

TFL came up with it?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 26/05/2010 13:54

the badges are a good idea - the tube is awful at rush hour and at least people don't have to wonder if the person is pregnant or not.

bus shelter thing i'd just move away myself.

MrKiplingismypimp · 26/05/2010 13:56

Exactly, Id prefer a badge than have someone think 'Pregnant/Fat? Offer seat/stay where I am?'

OP posts:
swanandduck · 26/05/2010 13:58

To be honest, in the rush hour scrum in tube stations I doubt many people would be reading a small badge on your bag.
