Well, I'm not sure why it would be unreasonable that his fourth word was cake, tbh. Perfectly good word really. Cake is good

runnybottom · 23/05/2010 10:34

good man!
My ds2 said cake for the first time yesterday, but he is almost 3 and has a significant speech delay.

skidoodly · 23/05/2010 10:37

Nice to see there are still people bringing up children with good old fashioned values

Cake sounds much better than MINE which my DD is saying constantly at the moment, about everything.

KickArseQueen · 23/05/2010 10:37

No I think thats avery good word actually, mumma and dadda use the front of the mouth and cake uses the back, very dif, trust me it could have been worse .....

bumpsnowjustplump · 23/05/2010 10:44

Ah thank you all I feel so much better now... ..

fernie3 · 23/05/2010 11:21

Cake is fine my sons roughly 3rd or 4th word was "help" which didn't look that good - mostly "help" to get him away from his big sister!

Lonnie · 23/05/2010 11:38

OMG I am laughing so hard reading this

and I agree cake is a good word now teach him chocolate cake

RunawayWife · 23/05/2010 11:53

YABU he clearly has his priorities right

DaftApeth · 23/05/2010 12:09

Dd's first word was 'more'

She does take after her mother

Jaybird37 · 23/05/2010 12:12

Cake is a great word

I have to admit [whispers] that the first word, for both my twins was "cheers" accompanied my much clinking of cups .

mumbar · 23/05/2010 12:16

oh teach him to say cream and I'll take him to the cake shop !!!

My DS 3rd word after mama and papa was 'lights'!!!

SilveryMoon · 23/05/2010 12:18

bumps That's my ds1's favourite word. Infact most days, it's the first thing he says when he gets out of bed.
I say "would you like some milk?"
He says "cake"

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/05/2010 12:21

Cake is a good word - it's a favourite of mine

DC3's first word was "hello" whilst holding an imaginery phone to his ear - absolutely nothing to do with me, I'm sure

Adair · 23/05/2010 12:32

'cake' good

Mine sings 'happy birthday to you' (well, 'aa A ooo wooo') when he sees a cake...

And you are lucky to get Mummy. Mine didn't say Mummy for MONTHS. Just dada and pointing at me .

ginhag · 23/05/2010 12:50

One of ds's very early words was 'beer'. Which obviously made myself and DP look like fantastic parents.

lady24 · 23/05/2010 13:04

Actually you should be really happy your son is saying cake as fourth word, that's pretty impressive. I am a speech therapist and back sounds are usually later to be produced since they are from the back of the mouth and cant be imitated from adults since a child cant see whats going on in the back of the mouth. Also he understands the consinent vowel consinent vowel pattern since he says mumma and dudda, and then cake which is a completely different vowel and is produced by moving the tounge different. Way to go!! keep reading to him and speaking to him to build up his vocabulary. how old is this kid by the way?

tethersend · 23/05/2010 13:11

Don't worry- DD (18mo), whilst in the pushchair watching her parents dashing around trying to leave the house the other day, sighed deeply and said 'Fucking 'ell'.

Ooops.

ginhag · 23/05/2010 13:26

Thanks tethersend!

I remember ds at about 16 months stomping up the stairs muttering 'for god's sake ' in a near-perfect impression of me.

I got a pointed look from DP. I was gutted as I had been so proud to have got my potty mouth under control when DS was born...and 'for god's sake' occasionally had seemed quite tame...however it sounded bloody awful when he said it

RustyBear · 23/05/2010 13:43

When DS was about a year old he learned to use the TV remote & we started turning the TV off at the plug to stop him switching it on & off.
One day DH was videoing him toddling round the living room; he picked up the remote & pointed it at the TV - when it didn't work, I'm sure he says 'bugger'...

mnistooaddictive · 23/05/2010 13:47

Cake was dd2's third word. At 13 months I was Christmas shopping to the tune of her shouting Cake cake VERY loudly!

dinkystinky · 23/05/2010 13:50

cake is a good word

DS1's first words were mummy, book, ball, hmmm toast - Daddy came a long way down the line. DH was not impressed.

JumeirahJane · 23/05/2010 13:51

we only get single syllables at the mo, but mimi = milk, (ba)nana, and bibi = biscuit. If only we were so honest about our priorities

letsblowthistacostand · 23/05/2010 14:05

One of DD2's first words was chocolate. She was only just over a year and would sit in her high chair chanting tchotch-titch when she thought dinner should be over. My PFB didn't even know what chocolate was until she was about 2.
