I've been teaching today (Foundation ) and its been a really hot day, ok the sun hasn't been out all of the time but its been warm all day. The weather forecast has said it will be hot all week. Was very surprised to lots of my class in vests today, I noticed when they took their jumpers off or in some cases when I insisted they took their jumpers off when they were really hot and sweaty !

My own children only wear vests in the middle of winter surely they dont need them in May !

yanbu...but i stop putting vests on my dcs when they stop wearing nappies

TootaLaFruit · 20/05/2010 17:12

Maybe their parents didn't see the weather forecast? Maybe it was cold when they got up/left the house? Maybe they didn't think it was a big deal because, as you mentioned, their kids could just take their jumpers off if too hot?

Bigger things to worry or get worked up about, methinks.

surreptitiously removes liberty bodice

biddysmama · 20/05/2010 17:13

my ds went to school with his coat on as well today because it looked like rain this morning... i hope his ssa told him to take his jumper off and not wear his coat to play outcos he wouldnt have noticed!

squeaver · 20/05/2010 17:13

Ne'er cast a cloot till May is oot.

meatntattypie · 20/05/2010 17:14

well you'd think wouldnt you but ds tells me that they are practicing for sports day at school and he is cold in his kit if they practice in the mornings so is insisting on wearing his.

Its up to him i spose, makes logical sense to me.

grapeandlemon · 20/05/2010 17:16

YABU
DD keeps vests on all year around (changing to singlet ones in summer) she is always cold to the touch and it runs in our family to not be sweaty or feel warm unless we are in a tropical climate.

It really is no big deal is it, we all know our individual children inside out....

QOD · 20/05/2010 17:26

My dd insists on wearing a vest to cover her bra - along with non removable jumper (well it is, but she won't)

mumto2andnomore · 20/05/2010 17:26

TootaLaFruit it was just a lighthearted observation obviously im not worried !
Was just surprised as they looked so hot and uncomfortable.

Mine insist on wearing them. I tell them it's too warm, but they're having none of it!

ds1 even insists on wearing his winter coat!!

I bet the staff are thinking I'm making him

Hulababy · 20/05/2010 17:31

My DD hasn't worn a vest since being about a year old. Even in the winter she gets too warm.

mine stopped wearing vests before starting school and youngest is 14.

BallpointPen · 21/05/2010 10:37

I'm wearing a vest.

Malkuth · 21/05/2010 10:38

Mine has just discovered the joys(?!) of vests and now wears them constantly. I never bothered with them even when my 2 were babies but we got some in a bag of handmedowns and apparently they are the best thing ever. So no YANBU but kids are contrary creatures!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 21/05/2010 10:39

Me too ballpoint

Downdog · 21/05/2010 10:52

OH sent DD off yesterday in long trousers (lined), vest! AND long sleeved top . He would put a vest on her all year if he could.

He argues that black people feel the cold more than white people and uses and episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm (where LB & the Black family argue over aircon/heating temperature settings) as 'evidence' to support his argument. I am always opening windows etc & he thinks I'm trying to kill him with a breeze.

Today DD skipped out of the house in a summer dress, sandals & light jacket. Though she did insist on adding at last minute a winter cardigan - it will be off by now I am sure.

Downdog · 21/05/2010 10:55

sorry should be LD above - Larry David

snowlady · 21/05/2010 10:57

YABU today is the first warm day and we have dispensed with the cardigan but not the vest. Yesterday was quite cold until the sun came out late afternoon.
If you see a child looking too hot you can ask them if they want to take their vest off. It is common sense surely.

I felt very daring sending dd to nursery without a vest on today! she's only got one layer on! omg.

Bramshott · 21/05/2010 11:03

It's very difficult to get it right at this time of year because the weather can change very quickly. Not like it's midsummer!

I was caught out myself this morning, going out in a long sleeved top and a cardigan, and finding it was much hotter than I thought.

Just13moreyearstogo · 21/05/2010 11:06

I don't think my sons ever wore vests once they were past babyhood but I religiously put one on my daughter no matter the weather as she has lung problems and to me a vest is like a lucky charm. Probably makes no difference at all to her health but gives me a sense of security.

Eve4Walle · 21/05/2010 11:12

It's still cold in the mornings though and is very hard to judge what the weather will be like for the rest of the day.

DD and DS both wore their vests yesterday but haven't today. DD took hers off when she did PE at school though. DS is still in nappies and I like him to wear a vest when it's cooler because it helps keep his nappy tidy and neat IYSWIM?

They are easy enough to whip off if you think they are getting overheated.

maltesers · 21/05/2010 11:21

They certsainly dont today . Its lovely and warm. ! !
