tortoiseonthehalfshell · 20/05/2010 08:23

How are people supposed to know house is for sale otherwise?

I always see for sale signs and think ooh nice house i will look that up when I get home. Do others not do that?

Coderooo · 20/05/2010 08:25

Coderooo · 20/05/2010 08:26

Actual LOL.

warthog · 20/05/2010 08:29

i don't think so. where there are flats that are often rented out it looks awful. and if something's taking a long time to sell people don't want ms. nosey to know how long it's been on the market.

Coderooo · 20/05/2010 08:30

oh i dont know about flats

EddieIzzardismyhero · 20/05/2010 08:30

We don't have a sign, had nooooo problem selling our house! They have this new fangled thing called "rightmove" - much more efficient .

Coderooo · 20/05/2010 08:31

but ADMIT IT, you were pleased and smug thinking" oh yes we are way above having a sign"

mind you at elase we dont have that american realtor thing with soom loon's face GURNING out at us..

When I lived in central London during the 1990s housing boom, they banned For Sale and To Let signs in Chelsea and Westminster. The problem was that some blocks were just constantly littered with dozens of signs.

I actually dont see the point of these signs now all houses for sale and let are on the internet. Frankly it is just done to advertise the estate agent - not the actual house.

I once rented a house that had a for sale sign up and we had quite a few people came to the house off the street asking to look round. Who wants passing strangers marching up to the front door demanding to come in and have a look around?

Not me.

MmeLindt · 20/05/2010 08:33

No one in Germany puts a sign up and they do manage to sell their houses. They don't tend to make much of a profit on them though. Wonder if they would if they had a sign up.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 20/05/2010 08:33

Lol! Not remotely smug, but as someone else said we didn't know how long it was going to take and didn't want all the nosey neighbours commenting on it all the time - took the people across the road 18 months to sell, would have been bloody depressing to look at a for sale sign for all that time!

Coderooo · 20/05/2010 08:33

DO you get loons marching up and demanding to see your loft lagging?

i am talking hiyses not flats in urban arearse

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 20/05/2010 08:33

yes, surely sometimes it's not needed? our sign took a few days to arrive and we had a couple of sightings before then

Coderooo · 20/05/2010 08:34

IT WAS smuggery
i bet you were pleased when the neighbours wtigged you had sold yours in rcord time all becuase of your "urchin" water feature.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 20/05/2010 08:35

do agree with tortoise though, we used to drive round with pad & pen & look them all up when ew got homeplus its handy if people are coming to look round - helps them find the house!

cupcakesandbunting · 20/05/2010 08:36

This is just IME but we went up for sale at the same time as our next-door neighbour two years ago. We sold in 5 months, he's still up.

Probs more to do with my house not smelling like dead dog though tbh. [meow emoticon]

EddieIzzardismyhero · 20/05/2010 08:36

You've got me - it was the 'urchin' water feature wot sold it (whatever the hell that is!) .

champagnesupernova · 20/05/2010 08:38

Round here EVERYONE knows which houses are on, for how much, for how long etc...
Was a bit gutted couple of weeks ago when I saw a lovely house I've admired for ages for sale while driving by and chatting to DS (bit distracted) and was thinking I'll look that up on interweb when we get home.
Got a bit closer, it was a fecking "Conservatives" billboard.

EndangeredSpecies · 20/05/2010 08:38

Depends where you live. In my road having a sign up would be like wearing a T-shirt saying PLEASE BUY MY HOUSE NOW.

StealthPolarBear · 20/05/2010 08:39

my dh would be wanting to view loft lagging
loft lagging is his current obsession
I don't mind, gets him out of the house (to B&Q0
