Especially as someone on facebook has mentioned going to Zara to spend it....is this just another ridiculous waste of public funds or what?

She spent it on a sofa, that her child will never sit on or in anyway benefit from, says a lot about her priorities doesn't it, the least she could do is give the baby a good start, extra fish/fruit/veg but no a sofa.'

It was comment like this that you can spend the money on any crap you like when you're keeping the baby but if it's being adopted...

What on earth do you mean ? How the heck could that be interrupted so incorrectly ?
I despair at times.

Suntangirl - I don't think it's anyone claiming tax credits, only WTC including the disability element or CTC at the higher rate, so presumably you'd have to be on a pretty low income to qualify?

BextheBambi · 20/05/2010 13:27

definatley not being unreasonable, i lived with a friend who got every benefit going for their baby and watched them spend it on tattoos, takeways and clothes. people need to be responsible with this money, i certainley plan to spend it on some much needed baby items.
I have to say i spend far to much time in town judging the people i hear saying "yeah but i get my benefits tomorrow so i can get my xbox, tattoo, new game, mindless crap that i could spend on thousands of other things that are more important." but thats just me

sungirltan · 20/05/2010 18:24

missus84 - i dunno - i didnt see it on mn until after dd was 3 months so i couldnt clain anyway so i dont know but it looked to me like we could have had it

Missus84 · 20/05/2010 21:30

I don't think we'll qualify for the higher rate of CTC unfortunately - an extra £500 would have been nice!

kingnothing · 21/05/2010 09:46

I agree Missus84. Just wonderingif strictlytory is still reading this? Just wondering if you think it's OK for Missus84 to ponder on how nice an extra £500 would have been, despite not qualfying - and still believe it's not ok for sterryerryoh to ponder on how nice a £190 would have been, even though she didn't qualify for that?
(sorry to use you as an example, Missus84 - hope you don't mind?)

nappyaddict · 21/05/2010 10:22

£190 seems a lot but it's only £4.75 a week. If it had been paid weekly like child benefit would anyone bat an eyelid at it?

sterrryerryoh · 23/05/2010 21:14

Thank you kingnothing

moondog · 24/05/2010 01:00

God you are an utter loon Tory.
Have read this thread with jaw open.Listen to yourself, wittering on in your high and mighty manner about the 'respect' and £££££££ of taxpayers money due to a woman who it seems has done nothing but breed over and over again, only for her children to be taken away from her.

Jessu Christ almighty.

You'll be telling us she is entitled to a Caribbean cruise next.
Sterry, I think you have acted nobly throughout this insane exchange..

kingnothing · 24/05/2010 10:55

well said, moondog!

sterrryerryoh · 24/05/2010 17:04

Moondog - thank you. Your kind words mean a great deal

catwhiskers10 · 25/05/2010 08:07

I got this when I was pregnant and I do think it is the most ridiculous thing ever.
It is supposed to be used to buy healthy foods during your pregnancy, yet you cant claim it until you are 6 months pregnant. If you havent been keeping healthy by that time then I dont think you are going to do it when you get the grant.
I also think it should be means tested, why should people on high incomes get the same as someone on a low income?

RunawayWife · 25/05/2010 08:11

I am hoping Dave and Nick will be stopping this hand out along with the child trust fund to be honest,
