No she is not adorable, she is a very naughty girl. She has just poured the whole container of salt all over the living room floor. Of course I did not hear as I had my ipod in to block out her loud recital of 'Now I know my ABC's' Which followed her very loud commentary of Mama Mirabelle

webwahm · 13/05/2010 15:16

My daughter's normal 'excited' voice is so loud it can actually hurt my ears!

Maybe the mum had tried to shut them up and was at her wits end trying to finish the shop?

TiggyR · 13/05/2010 15:16

We were in a restaurant the other week and two small kids were doing this. But they weren't tiny - they were old enough to be reasoned with. I am usually very tolerant but I was starting to get really fecked off because the parents were totally ignoring it, and we had to move table in order to be able to hear our own conversation. Yes little kids are a bit loud, but at least try and get them to realise that in some environments it's unacceptable, otherwise they never learn.

Morloth · 13/05/2010 15:23

I enjoy the sound of other people's kids being naughty or whatever, it gives me a warm glow knowing that I don't have to do anything about it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/05/2010 15:25

Am waiting for MN top trumps to start.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 13/05/2010 15:32

Was in a cafe last week and a kid was in the toy corner shouting across the whole room to his mum about something he could see out of the window, she was shouting back equally loudly.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 13/05/2010 15:33

and we were in the middle.

Rockbird · 13/05/2010 15:38

You should have put some gruyere in your ears, you wouldn't have heard them then!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 13/05/2010 15:48

damn, I was too slow, didn't think of that.

thisisyesterday · 13/05/2010 15:59

I have a very, very loud one, my middle child. making sure no-one ever forgets about him I reckon

anyway, we have had a few incidences of him and ds1 really, really shouting at each other (for fun)
the more I try and stop them the more I do it.

tbh i don't think you CAN stop them can you? short of gagging them, and then someone would only be on here saying AIBU to think the mum in waitrose today shouldn';t have gagged her lovely children?

can't bloody win

posieparker · 13/05/2010 16:04

DS2 is very loud and until a couple of years ago, he's now 7, we would whisper/ask/demonstrate/get cross...do whatever to get him to be quiet, NOTHING worked. His speaking voice has an especailly loud pitch and volume. We even had two separate grumpy --bastards couples ask us to 'shut him up' on holiday. We had been asking him to 'shhh' and apologetically looking at others, even went as far as leaving places that weren't loud.

If two children are amusing themselves in a shitty supermarket and the mother is not bothered(well done her) then take a happy pill and shut the fuck up.

lazarusb · 13/05/2010 16:06

Two words- Online shopping! My stress levels have been wonderful (?) ever since....

KickArseQueen · 13/05/2010 16:10

susylvester, you weren't by any chance looking for something in the fridge section that they had run out of were you?

webwahm · 13/05/2010 16:11

@lazarusb - agreed!

Although, I was rebuked the other week for doing my shopping online...since I'm robbing my kids of the experience of supermarkets (?!)

detoxdiva · 13/05/2010 16:17

Shiney - do we share the same dd? Mine is totally incapable of having any quiet time - it's as if any silences make her nervous and she has to fill them with random noise. Not even talking sometimes. Just noise. From 7am to 7pm, or as I like to call it, gin o'clock

ShinyAndNew · 13/05/2010 16:24

Yes dd2 does 'random noise' too it sounds like 'AAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU' I think it occurs when she has run out things to loudly comment on.

A few short months ago I was distressed that she could not talk. Ah the silence. Had I known what she would be like when she learnt to talk I'd have been hoping she would be silent longer

SuSylvester · 13/05/2010 16:28

Goml we had a top trump at 14 58!

yabu, wouldnt have bothered me

Concordia · 13/05/2010 17:57

was it asda on tuesday afternoon? think you are talking about my children

letsblowthistacostand · 13/05/2010 18:18

Could have been my 2, they like to see who can scream the loudest so take it in turns to produce that ear-splitting noise. They're not as loud as my friend's kid, though, I have never heard anything like her.

Frankly I'd rather hear screaming-for-the-fun-of-it than whining and trying to pull each other's hair out ANY DAY.

How many kids have you got OP?

verytellytubby · 13/05/2010 18:22

I actually took my DT's to get their ears tested as I couldn't believe how LOUD they are. Hearing was fine. I pray for sore hoarse throats

maybe it's genetic?

If the mother had talked, you might have been surprised to hear her communicate in huge BOOMING WAILING voice, she thinks her dcs little mice in comparison

I reckon it was that

mumdrivenmad · 13/05/2010 19:22

I too have a very loud DD, even the nurse doing her jabs commented on it. I used to dispair of her loudness, until I hit on the idea of putting my fingers to my lips and saying shhhhh, and then "pardon what did you say" in a very quiet voice, it worked for me. Now she is at school, they have a "please use your indoor voice" rule, bliss!!
