I do not know anyone who is having a 'party' living on benefits....post here if you do

On MN, I keep reading on many different threads that Labour has been giving away loads of money in benefits to people who don't really need it which has caused the financial crisis.

All the people I know who rely on their tax credits and have children seem to have to watch every penny. I do not see evidence of them having any sort of 'party' life.

I had thought the banks were mostly responsible for the financial crisis by lending money that didn't exist.

Can anyone correct me on this? I'm open to different opinions.

'i chose to quit work because of health problems'

If you really have health problems then you don't 'chose' are you?
Also, earlier you said you quit 'to bond with your children'.
All your posts seem confusing to me.
Are you trying to wind people up?

BettyBlu · 04/05/2010 15:02

I think it is disingenous to describe yourself at living just above the poverty line and in the next breath justifying spending £800 on a telly. If I was one of the posters on here struggling day to day I would be livid.

Surely you would do better to save some of your disposable income, as if your TC are based on your household earning 8k previous year, then next year when the TCs are based on your partners true wage you will experience a big drop in income.

and you can buy a telly less than four foot across that costs a fuck of a lot less than £800-it's posts like yours, and cases like yours that means people resent anyone with a sahm getting any tax credits.
i genuinely have no idea how you have £800 spare for a telly...that's 3 months of our tax credits total, and we're a family of 4 with a mortgage to pay.
do you get HB out of interest.

Like i have just said, due to a TC oweing us, we was able to buy a new TV. No we do not get housing benefit our rent is just under £260 per month. Dont forget though, our annual income for last year was LESS than £8,000.

CheekyVimtoGal · 04/05/2010 15:06

Right no one knows my situation and the more i try to explain it, the more i get shot down.

I dropped hours at work due to the bond with my children.

I then left because my depression was coming back

(making sense yet)

We renewed our tax credits and got a lump sum back, We paid for our TV out of the Tax Credits we got, which we thought why shouldnt we as DH is working in a good job. So why not treat ourselves.
I wont go into more detail of what our incomings and outgoings are because that is a tad of invading on your parts.

Everyones life is different, Deal with it.

Crazycatlady · 04/05/2010 15:07

Agree with Betty on this.

I know everyone has different priorities in life but if I had recently been struggling to even afford food, I'd be putting money into savings for months before even thinking about buying anything new for the home, let alone a £800 telly.

I'd be squirreling money away to make sure that if our fortunes reversed again that we were able to at least eat - particularly with a General Election round the corner, spending cuts inevitable, and being reliant on tax credits... quite a gamble IMO.

CheekyVimtoGal · 04/05/2010 15:09

We have saved some, we are not daft. We are comfortable at the moment and its been a long time coming.

I refuse to comment any further on my situation, none of you know me, so therefore none of you can decide what i should do with our money.

If some people can't deal with other people circumstances then thats their problems, not mine.

Crazycatlady · 04/05/2010 15:11

To be fair Cheeky you chose to share personal information on your situation in quite some detail which, in an open forum, is an invitation to comment.

Your situation is relevant in light of the OP's question.

AbsOfCroissant · 04/05/2010 15:13

"I find that the only people who have something to 'say' about people on benefits are the people who work full time or who have thousands in the bank "

Well, I am working, don't have thousands in the bank, but do like to have a say on these things as it's my money, as is the money of millions of other working people. Where do you think the tax used for this come from? Trees?

BettyBlu · 04/05/2010 15:13

If you are comfortable, don't describe yourself as living just above the poverty line. Hmm?

It's not your circumstances, it's all the inconsistencies in your posts that have brought about all the comment.

CheekyVimtoGal · 04/05/2010 15:15

But im not having a party am i? I am not claiming any benefits apart from the ones i am entitled to like everyone else who has children, WTC/CTC/CB & A Wage.

We have a relevntly high income monthly at the moment so why not treat ourselves. Its not as if im claiming Incapacity benefit and working is it? I am a SAHM=, i do not get paid for it. I get CTC instead. People can make of my situation what they want to.

CheekyVimtoGal · 04/05/2010 15:17

I am not the best at writing information on a screen, i am better talking to people face to face. So my posts may not make sense. But like iv said, if people have a problem with me, its theirs not mine.

CheekyVimtoGal · 04/05/2010 15:18

Nothing i am doing is illegal and nothing i am claiming if wrong, i am entitled to CTC/WTC/CB so i shall claim it like everyone else who is entitled to it. This years award is higher than i expected and i have repeatedly asked them over and over again if it is correct and they have repeatedly said 'YES its correct'

Blame the government not me.

CheekyVimtoGal · 04/05/2010 15:21

Laquitar · 04/05/2010 15:22

'blame the Goverment not me'

Is this the reason you 've been trying to provoke?

Im not trying to provoke anything. I am merely stating what i am entitled to and its not my fault.
