AIBU to believe this and feel incredibly disturbed

I have read some very disturbing articles today on the case of a Scottish woman with downs syndrome who was systematically abused as a child by her father and a paedophile ring he was involved with. If these stories are true (and the more I read into it the more convinced I am) it would seem that the abuse involved individuals up to the highest level of the Scottish Establishment.

Also google search Hollie Greig and you will find a site campaigning for justice for Hollie as well as other articles.

It seems that there is a D-Notice on the British Press and that there has been a major cover-up resulting in many important public figures implicated in the abuse never being investigated or even questioned and the case being unknown to the general public.

So, AIBU to believe this? TBH I'm really hoping that every says YES! and that it is obviously a load of conspiracy theory hogwash (and there does seem to be some inconsistencies in the story) because the alternative is too horrible to contemplate.

BTW I have name changed as I am feeling extremely paranoid about being recognised, due to the way I discovered this story, although I am probably getting too caught up in the conspiracy theory side of things.

A very upseting article.

I loathe and detest paedophiles. But I loathes and detest even more those lawyers that defend them, knowing full well what they did, and profit from it.

At least paeodo's have got the excuse that they're sick. What excuse have lawyers got. They would let a child killer walk the streets as long as they benefited financially from it.

thehillsarealive · 02/05/2010 21:17

oh, have never heard of the palestine telegraph, but if it has articles like this i might read from now on.

Thanks OP for highlighting this.

runnybottom · 02/05/2010 21:20

The main uk site covering this is the David Icke website, which also reveals secret government cover-ups of aliens, and how David is the new messiah.

paranoidandrex · 02/05/2010 21:29

thanks for pointing that out runnybottom though I haven't come across the David Icke site - he sounds like a loon. Which is why I posted in AIBU. But surely a loon commenting on it doesn't automatically mean it's false (he didn't make it up as there are many other sources out there commenting on the story, and I have just discovered a fb campaigning page).

Do you believe it is not true then rb?

Horrible. And unfortunately very possibly true IMO. For reasons I won't bother going into, I have little trust for police and this wouldn't surprise me at all. Unfortunatley, all people are people, whatever their job and there is probably far more corruption in every area of our lives than we would like to think. Sorry

runnybottom · 02/05/2010 21:39

I have to say I'm dubious, tbh. The links are all pretty low-quality, no mention of any of it in any reputable newspaper or magazine, or any European publication.
I'm not saying there is no truth at all in it, but some of the claims are outlandish at best, and I have real trouble believing that only the conspiracy theorists and whackadoodles have the real story.

DuelingFanjo · 02/05/2010 21:41

I have heard this before, possibly here on mumsnet. Yes if true it is awful. However it's not a new story at all.

runnybottom · 02/05/2010 21:46

and the "official blog" for the case has apparently changed its mind and says the mother is a liar, and that the only reason no charges were ever brought is that there was no evidence of any kind.
If the people who started all the net spreading now say its all bollocks, why would anyone believe it?

Catkinsthecatinthehat · 02/05/2010 21:46

Sounds dubious. As for the "D notice on the British Press" - they are called DA Notices, relate to national security matters only, and most importantly are entirely voluntary.

The Palestine Telegraph is an anti-semitic nutjob blog which last December accused Israel of importing 25,000 Ukraine children over the previous two years in order to murder them and harvest their organs for Jews.

paranoidandrex · 02/05/2010 21:52

Well, rb supposedly the reason for lack of coverage is that there is a D-Notice on the British Press so there is a major cover up to stop the prominant figures being brought to justice. Which explains why there is no coverage by any reputable UK papers. Although a D-Notice is not legally enforcable they will be obeyed by the press.
If it's true it the thing that I found most disturbing I suppose. That so many people would know the people involved and be aware of what they did and they are all complicit in keeping it quiet.
Oh, and there is a recent interview on a Manchester radio station, and the story did run in notw a while back (I'll try and find a link).
Fanjo, the articles in the paper are fairly recent so wasn't aware this story had been around for a while.
I suppose I'm just feeling angered that some people are apparently above the law and can commit the most awful crimes with complete impunity. If it is true.

sorry x post rb and cat - ok so IABU and as far as I'm concerned that's good...

SolidGoldBrass · 02/05/2010 21:58

I have heard this story before and am a little about it. WHile it is possible that there has been a cover up of some sort due to high-ranking people being child abusers, it is hard to believe a story that is only being aired by absolute whangers.
For one thing, there are enough good, socially aware investigative journalists that if there was much mileage in this story, more would have come out by now (it's hardly difficult to get a sympathetic hearing in the press if you are telling a story of children being harmed).

geraldinetheluckygoat · 02/05/2010 22:00

didn't Shy Keenan say that there were a many top police and people in prominent positions involved in her abuse that were never brought to justice? Have no idea how true any of it is though...

I have doubts over whether this is true, repeating what other's have said, the story does seem to be being covered by quite dubious sources. Agree with SGB surely someone would have broken ranks by now.

As an aside, BAFE, our country thankfully operates under the principle of innocent until proven guilty and this applies to everyone, suspected paedophiles included who have as much right as anyone else to a defence in court. Funnily enough this is usually done by lawyers. Or would you like to arbitrarily decide who can and can't have a defence in court?

SolidGoldBrass · 02/05/2010 22:39

Well I've just had a quick google and there is not one link that isn't to a site run by either complete mentalists or gullible dimwits. Which gives me the impression that 'Hollie Greig' may not even exist.

wannaBe · 02/05/2010 22:45

I think it's probably bollocks tbh. Why on earth would there be such a huge cover-up over this?

Nope - don't believe a word of it sorry.

SolidGoldBrass · 03/05/2010 00:17

Though to be fair I did run 'Hollie Greig' through Snopes as well and didn't find any results (but that could be due to Snopes being a predominantly US-based resource).

scottishmummy · 03/05/2010 00:21

nah, pants on fire.btw why are you op paranoid

scottishmummy · 03/05/2010 00:28

oh meant, nah pants not on fire but hotly disputed case.why are you so paranoid op

SolidGoldBrass · 03/05/2010 00:49

Scottishmummy: Has there been anything about this case in the mainstream scottish press? Because everything about it online seems to be from the type of website you need a tinfoil hat to read and, like I said, it gives the impression that 'Hollie Greig' may not even exist or have ever existed.

Quattrocento · 03/05/2010 00:56

"Hollies (sic) father Denis and Greg went to live in Portugal, which also so happened to be the same country where Madeleine McCann went missing."

You don't have to read any more to know that this is a total load of garbage. Don't give it headspace.

scottishmummy · 03/05/2010 01:03

yes,SGB hotly disputed and if true is v shocking
