lucykate · 01/05/2010 13:40

LTJ, she's 8, worn glasses since about 23 months, her px is +5 on the right and +6 on the left, she also has astigmatism. we've done exercising and patching, did help a lot.

Longtalljosie · 01/05/2010 13:46

Very similar to me then - px and I also have a very slight astigmatism.

I've always been very grateful I had the op, if that's any use...

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 01/05/2010 13:52

Can astigmatism be serious ?? my ds has it, he has glasses but rarely wears em, its hard to test his sight cos of his autism so guess work really

OP YANBU

The thread hijack on here is a little .

If I come onto a thread and see a phrase used that I do not like and would not use myself I do not feel the need to inform other posters of that, nor do I feel the need to comment on other people's choice of talknames. Tis just polite.

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 14:28

lol, asilverlining. but instead of thinking this in your head you come on here and type that post so... yet another spectacular irony fail.

might i remind you that i only said that te phrase 'lazy parenting', which had already been used by at least a couple of people, was 'soooo daily mail', genuinely not sure why knickers are in such a twist about a patently true statement. lazy parenting is as much an mn trope as gregg's sausage rolls and nice ham.

aSilverLining · 01/05/2010 14:38

I posted as I felt the need to show not everyone reading this thread is nodding along agreeing with you and not wanting to say anything which directly disagrees with you. I could continue typing but I won't.

MumtoEliane · 01/05/2010 14:54

My mum almost shaved my hair when I was about 4 because I kept getting them, my gran persuaded her not to, they made a home remedy that worked, it had vinegar, rosemary oil and maybe something else and I slept with it and a shower cap all night! I still remember the stink! but with that, they went and I got to keep my hair. My mum cut hers though

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 14:59

oh for goodness sakes, i cannot believe this.

i neither think nor care that everyone is nodding along or not (because, newsflash, that caininthepunt thinks that 'lazy parenting' is a great descriptive expression that says nothing whatsoever about the user and i don't just isn't that important). tbh the conversation had moved on altogether and you dragged it back because you couldn't bear not to have your say on a matter that had otherwise died down. don't pretend to be doing anything other than stirring, please. lol.

allbie · 01/05/2010 15:02

Some people are spectacularly great at parenting and some just really aren't. Just be glad your kids don't sit next to hers at school! It's not just children who have special needs.

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 15:03

well of course that is also true, albie. i haven't seen the show but is it possible that the mother herself was not completely nt?

landrover · 01/05/2010 15:17

Aitch and Cain, kiss and make up PLEASE (by the way I didnt understand the roundup thing at all? whats that all about?)

expatinscotland · 01/05/2010 15:31

'i haven't seen the show but is it possible that the mother herself was not completely nt?'

it would honestly not appear so from the show.

she would have also have to have been selected from what i'm sure were a wide number of applicants.

and have put her story forward for selection.

expatinscotland · 01/05/2010 15:32

also (foreigner alert!), what is offensive about cain's name?

i've googled it but haven't come up with anything to suggest it would be derogatory.

NomDePlume · 01/05/2010 15:33

it's from the bible expat. He was the first murderer

expatinscotland · 01/05/2010 15:33

Yes, I know that, NdP.

Perhaps I don't understand the 'inthePunt' part.

NomDePlume · 01/05/2010 15:34

oh whoops, thought you meant why cain might be thought of as an inapproproriate baby name !!! LOL

Expat, swap the letters around. It is a play on words. Sorta. Aka

Pain in the Cunt

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 15:34

pain in the cunt. nice.

i wonder how they get these people... a lot come from the take a break type mags i think.

NomDePlume · 01/05/2010 15:35

sorry, I am being thick today. As you were. That'll teach me only to read the last post on a thread

expatinscotland · 01/05/2010 15:35

K! See, that's what taking co-cocodamol does to me. I'm all fuzzy today!

(am waiting for abcess to clear so can have tooth extracted on Tuesday).

AitchTwoZone · 01/05/2010 15:36

yow. not good.

NomDePlume · 01/05/2010 15:36

I think sometimes those sort of names are just Not Clever. Some are amusing, some are not.

expatinscotland · 01/05/2010 15:37

Ugggh, just remembered all those nits and the size of those lice under the magnifying glass.

Eeeew..

RedBlueRed · 01/05/2010 15:46

Crikey, I can't believe this is still being discussed.

It has nothing to do with the bible, I just swapped the C and the P and I'm quite sure that if Aitch wasn't making such a fuss about it, my little joke would not register on many people's radar.

I had no idea my use of that phrase would cause such a thing. I shall certainly not be using it again and if I can ever be arsed, I will pick up a copy of the DM and work out what the joke was.

I'm quite embarassed by the hijack and hope OP is not too pissed off with us.

Aitch I apologise for upsetting you with the roundup comment. I'm sure you will do a fabulous job. I'm afraid I have no intention of changing my name though.

Shall we let it go now?

landrover · 01/05/2010 15:54

but what does the roundup comment mean? Am I just being really thick?

RedBlueRed · 01/05/2010 15:58

I didn't get Aitch's joke and I was suggesting her sense of humour was out there. It was bitchy considering what she is taking on, but not without provocation.
