AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

to assume that 99% of outlandish ops from a first time poster on Mumsnet are the work of trolls?

I don't know, I must be getting very cynical in my old age.

But every time I read something that seems altogether outrageous, and guaranteed to generate a lot of reaction from Mumsnetters, the op has never posted on Mumsnet before.

Btw, I never say "I think you are a troll" because I understand this to be taboo on here.

I just leave the thread and sometimes come back to lurk.

But it seems people are often very quick to take the op at face value, and I am sorry they are being taken for a ride.

im mn monogamous.cant be arsed traipsing around like a dirty stop out

SlartyBartFast · 27/04/2010 22:58

i think its weird to read posters previous posts and then haul them over the coals over it.
if they are trolling surely they would name change, or is that too easy.

bibbitybobbityhat · 27/04/2010 23:00

Who is reading previous posts and hauling posters over the coals for it Slarty?

MitheringMammies is a goodun.

I only went over to netmums for a look, I didn't understand it at all, the threads are set up a lot differently than this, and are hard to keep up with. Plus have pictures and moving emotiocns and a load of shite. I like minimal MN. I too use no other forums.

God knows who was first.

SlartyBartFast · 27/04/2010 23:02

can't remember who exactly. generlaly very long contenuous threads.

SlartyBartFast · 27/04/2010 23:04

contentious

SlartyBartFast · 27/04/2010 23:08

i jjust read another one, checking the posters profile with all sorts of accusations

honestly do some people have nothign better to do than disbelieve people??

scottishmummy · 28/04/2010 19:16

are ye new-dont get strangers round these parts.let me check yer posting history, see if ye are a well kent face

to all of you who do check.why bother! mn time is too short to oh and ah over who said what and if they are well kent

Snobear4000 · 28/04/2010 23:04

What's a Troll? I'm serious. I don't know.

scottishmummy · 29/04/2010 20:42

troll=makes up story,to make mischief and elicit response and mix it up a bit

usually high octane/sob story/inflammatory/controversial

best ignored -but sometimes it is fun to have a laugh too

poppymouse · 29/04/2010 21:05

This is what puts me off Mumsnet! I don't know what a troll is. I don't know what an op is. I like reading the threads but I get the feeling newcomers are not welcome. Go on then: slag me off because it's my first post, that seems to be what happens.

scottishmummy · 29/04/2010 21:16

welcome!oh just post, its only words on a screen, strangers with a pc tap tapping.

trolls arent mn unique.internet phenomena

as for op etc
-acronyms

maybe ease up on expecting to get a hard time.like any discursive medium some will agree with you, some wont

trick is not take personally - no big deal.best threads are the lively ones

poppymouse · 29/04/2010 21:18
