"Positive energy" room sprays.
The entire homeopathy industry , rescue remedy for pets? really?
The" healing power of thought".
Blah blah blah.
I'll do someone a very serious injury if they suggest I consider counselling for my anger re this, just so you know.

Oh and I'll add on conspiracy theories also, from JFK to immunisations to volcanic ash.

My exes mum was a bloody chrystal healer and went on and on about energy.

ditavionteased · 27/04/2010 17:20

scoutliam · 27/04/2010 17:21

What the hell is so wrong with just saying aren't these rocks pretty? Let's look at them.
Why is that not enough?

Perfectly reasonable.

I try to give the peddlers of such wares the benefit of the doubt and think of them as gullible idiots, not cruel shysters preying on the vulnerable.

Alouiseg · 27/04/2010 17:25

I do laugh at first time Mum's who insist they'll be taking rescue remedy into the delivery suite.

scoutliam · 27/04/2010 17:27

And while I'm on the subject there are no reds/liberals/paedophiles/immigrants under the bed waiting to pounce and threaten the fabric of society.
When bad stuff happens, it's a bad thing.
There is no fecking need to escalate everything into a" them and us " scenario.

Positive thinking is positively harmful imo.

I have a friend who has made poor choice after poor choice but 'concentrates on the positive' so she never has to deal with the actual, er, reality.

Women are encouraged to do this pish when in fact they should be taking a cold and analytical look at their lives and asking if they are really happy, instead of feeling like shit most of the time but 'looking at the positive side'.

scoutliam · 27/04/2010 17:28

It's all fecking mumbo jumbo, and vulnerable people are their bloody target group!

OP posts:
scoutliam · 27/04/2010 17:29

Positive thinking makes you feel better, fair enough.
It does not and never will heal.

OP posts:
Alouiseg · 27/04/2010 17:30

Being grateful for what you've got sucks too!

It rather depends who i'm comparing myself with thanks.

Pronoia · 27/04/2010 17:32

Because I am a kind person, I didn't argue with my friend who insisted that her secret reiki on my back was the reason the pain had eased, and NOT because 20 minutes earlier I had necked two ibuprofen with a cup of tea.

What I would really really likw ro say to all the hippies is - "yes, crystals work if you believe in them faithfully. But antibiotics still have a proven effect on people who don't believe in them at ALL."

Pronoia · 27/04/2010 17:33

Bah.

positive thinking shite

"At least he doesn't hit you though"

yeah, he doesn't hit me - woo. I had expected rather more from a life partner than someone who doesn't happen to break the goddamn law by hitting me.

skihorse · 27/04/2010 17:35

lol@Morris

Ding ding!

scoutliam · 27/04/2010 17:35

No now I'll disagree with you there Alouiseg,
What is wrong with just being happy with what you've got?
Alot of this mumbo jumbo is peddled to people who are constantly unhappy with their very reasonable lot.
Their just looking for more, they don't know what, just more.

OP posts:
scoutliam · 27/04/2010 17:36

Yes Morris exactly.

"With you on that, "I'll pray for you" Please don't i'm seeing the consultant in the morning he has the good stuff thanks!"

Ho ho,

I remember reading about a study funded by the Templeton foundation where quite large numbers of people about to undergo heart surgery were randomly assigned into to two groups, one where volunteers in a local church "prayed for them" and one where they weren't. Some participants were told they were being prayed for and others weren't.

There was no real difference between the prayed for and unprayed for groups where they didn't know but those that did know they were being prayed for actually had a significantly worse outcome .

The theory is that knowing you were being prayed for put additional stress on the patient to get better, which was just what they didn't need...

'I'll pray for you' Er no thanks...

Alouiseg · 27/04/2010 17:57

It's ok scoutliam I only pop into mn to get disagreed with

scoutliam · 27/04/2010 18:10

OP posts:
Ladyanonymous · 27/04/2010 18:12

YABU to lump counselling in with these things...but YANBU for the rest.

LynetteScavo · 27/04/2010 18:13

scoutliam...you seriously need to use the positive energy room spray, and some rescue remedy...and then you will feel much calmer, and not want to injure anybody.

Pronoia · 27/04/2010 18:16

Will I get shot if I mention religion here?

I thought I had a set of intelligent rational friends, but they all seem to have decided they want to be pagans.

And I genuinely don't understand why. I think some of them believe it but the others just don't want to be left out.

Either that or it's an elaborate excuse to leave me behind and that actually they are only using the full mood as an excuse to get bladdered in the pub without me,.

Pronoia · 27/04/2010 18:17

Full MOON dammit, God, My typing...
