I used to like solutions, but that was when they solved problems. Now we have "Room solutions", otherwise known as, um, furniture. Not to mention all the other crap.

Lady, Sorry didn't mean to lump counselling in with the other lot but, the idea that for every obstacle encountered in life there is a need for counselling is MJ.

Counselling can become counter productive in these cases.

hypnosis does work actually, not for everyone but there is a select few who are extremely suggestible whilst in trance (for therapeutic purposes - not talking stage hypnosis here).

I don't think hypnosis is bollocks, there have been several studies to show that the power of hypnosis is real

I do believe though that you can't hypnotise anyone to do something that they truly don't want to.

I also don't think it's any good as a quick fix in weight loss, giving up the fags ect.

When you get to past lives well then yes that's bollocks.

hypnosis does work if you want to lose weight or stop smoking - it's a one-off session you pay for in most cases (DH is a hypnotherapist) but you have to have the will power or it doesn't work.

you are right though OP, no one can be hypnotised to do something that they don't want to. The client is always in complete control throughout

Agree is does work for those that are susceptible. Also agree all of the staged hypnosis is a load of tosh.

I think the power of suggestion is undeniably powerful; and that's basically what hypnotism is. It's not mystical. It has been shown in studies that the placebo effect/the power of belief can have a very real effect on our physical state. So, of course, it's not the crystal/reiki/colour therapy helping to cure you, but your BELIEF in them.

Interestingly though, I read a study that said that hypno-birthing courses made absolutely no difference to the birth experiences of the women who did them, as compared with those who didn't, and in fact there was a slightly higher incidence of intervention amonst those who'd done them!!

I have two pain free labours to prove that hypnosis works a treat for me.

Rescue Remedy tastes like sweet brandy so on that basis I quite like it.

I got into an argument with the pharmacist the other day though about homoeopathy, I asked him if he had some medicine to deal with the boy's verruca (yuck!), and he offered me some homoeopathic crap. It was horrible, I usually really like this chemist and had to be quite rude in order to get him to recommend some actual medicine.

He doesn't respond to discipline, this is true, but it's not because they have special intelligence and empathic powers. It's because they are bright enough to figure out that most discipline is at least semi consensual, and in a house where things are suggested rather than required, you can do as you please.
