and not little boys? Am i alone in not wanting my DSs to aspire to join a profession that is so dangerous? Dont get me wrong i appreciate the fantastic job the armed forces do but can any mother with hand on heart actually say she wants her boy to be a soldier? I cant believe how many camouflage patterns adorn little boys clothes these days

southeastastra · 24/04/2010 16:34

I like army print clothing. YABU in my opinion.

jellybeans · 24/04/2010 17:27

I love it. YABU but each to their own.

5Foot5 · 24/04/2010 17:59

I went for a walk today and passed a garden where someone had painted their caravan in camouflage colours. Maybe that is taking things a bit too far. I wish they had been around so I could have been nosy and asked why.

If you change your mind this place www.sofmilitary.co.uk has lots of nice quasi-military stuff!! I shop there but not for clothing - I just have a regular requirement for little drawstring bags made out of camouflage material.

shockers · 24/04/2010 18:11

Sorry to be nosey 5Foot5 but I'm going to have to ask... why do you have a regular requirement for little drawstring bags made out of camoflage material?

OP... I'm not overly struck on the pattern but I think you're reading too much into what influences little boys. Often it's chosen because it's practical for playing out in. I used to like things with stars and stripes on as a child but I have no desire to even visit America now I'm an adult.

ChocHobNob · 24/04/2010 18:19

I would imagine that having a Dad in the TA would have more influence on my son's joining the Army than them wearing camouflage clothing. Perhaps I should ban him from the TA just in case lol

I do think YABU.

Firawla · 24/04/2010 19:55

I think YABU putting them in a couple of camoflage clothing items is not going to brainwash them into thinking they must join the army or anything, its just a normal fashion for boys clothes. You are over thinking it. But by all means avoid it if you don't like it, noone forces you to buy it

skihorse · 24/04/2010 19:56

yabu - and perhaps a little to analytical. Its an outfit. Nothing more.

Lonnie · 24/04/2010 21:06

YANBU and Your NOT alone I have never permitted this I do not care for the trend of this being acceptable clothing for non military type people I think it looks awful

nappyzoneloveslindor · 24/04/2010 21:09

I like it but have not actually seen much inthe shops for my little boy - it hides stains and i am looking fwd to it becomming high fashio for grown ups but perhaps i will look a twat if by then i am 70

SoupDragon · 24/04/2010 21:11

Oh yes, because a pattern on clothing moulds your child's future life

I don't recall my brother ever wearing military clothes when we were growing up and he joined the RAF at 17.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2010 21:12

I best remove DS2s monster t shirt from his wardrobe before... Oh damn. Too late. Ho hum.

dinkystinky · 24/04/2010 21:14

Given we live in a city, camouflage kit is the best way to get DS1 to stand out

You're overthinking things.

loubielou31 · 24/04/2010 21:17

It's not my favourite but on a little boy I don't see it as a problem. I dislike it much more when you see full grown men wearing combat gear, it just looks scruffy. (not on actual soldiers obviously because they wear it properly). My real pet hate is football shirts not on a football pitch but I know IABU about that.

malovitt · 24/04/2010 21:21

It is illegal to wear camouflage clothing in Barbados.

I remember a story about a 10 year old British tourist who was arrested by airport officials there for wearing Marks & Spencer camouflage clothing, although they allowed him to change, confiscated his t-shirt and released him.

EldonAve · 24/04/2010 21:25

YABU
DS had lovely little camo shorts and an ARMY tee when he was a toddler

abunchofmasterdebaters · 24/04/2010 21:25

what a great idea get the actual fashion police to arrest people who are offending us with their clothing

taffetacat · 24/04/2010 21:26

@ Barbados camo ban

LOL reminds me of when we went to New England for our honeymoon and DH was given a stern warning for wearing a fawn jumper in a rural area as it was hunting season

DS ( 6) likes to dress mainly as Matt Smith ( in his school uniform )but sometimes as a spy. I don't expect he'll be joining MI5.

DD (3) likes to dress as a fairy but I doubt she will choose it as a career.

2rebecca · 24/04/2010 21:29

It's no worse than divisive and often sectarian football strips.
I'm fairly pacifist and wasn't keen on buying son army stuff although he was keen. He's now old enough to decide his own hobbies and has joined cadets so has loads of it and loves it.
At least he doesn't have a wardrobe of pink clothes or mini tart clothes like many young girls.

5Foot5 · 26/04/2010 13:07

Shockers: "Sorry to be nosey 5Foot5 but I'm going to have to ask... why do you have a regular requirement for little drawstring bags made out of camoflage material?"

I do this thing called geocaching which involves hiding containers (usually plastic lunch boxes) in the country. Camouflage bags are rather handy for this since if you put your lunch box in one before you hide it then it is even more well hidden.
