To think that Mumsnet shouldn't be promoting juice drink 5-Alive.....

....which according to its description is a "breakfast staple ideal for everyday family drinking as part of a healthy balanced diet", but actually it contains sugar, flavourings, aspartame, saccharin, and acesulfame K?
Do you want to feed this to your kids?

better then the bottle of bud my ds is currently drinking ....

MudandRoses · 23/04/2010 22:48

really?? I always thought it was mostly fruit, and some sugar - surprised about all the other yucky things in there.

PeedOffWithNits · 23/04/2010 22:50

I hate all those juice drinks masquerading as juice, its all a con - and sadly some people dont read the label and dont realsie it is not just juice or juice and water

MrsHarry · 23/04/2010 22:50

The term 'juice drink' is always a give-away IMO. If it didn't have other unecessary crap in, it would just be juice....!

oh just give them beer

chaostrulyreigns · 23/04/2010 22:54

Did you look at the survey? - most patronising twaddle I have ever read.

Yes I do use my me-time to dance round the kitchen singing silly songs.

There are a lot of things I would do for a chance of winning £250, but I did not debase myself for that.

Downdog · 23/04/2010 23:07

yuk - don't buy juice drinks.

DD (age 2) was given one one day by her uncle and she puked everywhere. probably the best thing for her to do.

brimfull · 23/04/2010 23:13

mmmm i love 5-alive

Joolyjoolyjoo · 23/04/2010 23:14

No- they should be reviving Um Bongo, so I can relive the ads (Um bongo, um bomgo, they drink it in the Congo...)

toccatanfudge · 23/04/2010 23:15

'tis better than the Dr Pepper which I let DS3 (2.11) have a small sip of the other day..........thinking he would hate it like his brothers did at that age because of the taste and the fizzyness..........

it backfired rather badly - he's been bugging me for it ever since and I found him in the cupboardin the kitchen this afternoon trying to take the lid of the 2ltr bottle - with glass next to him ready to try and fill it

MrsHarry · 23/04/2010 23:16

But why are Mumsnet promoting it??

OP posts:
hellymelly · 23/04/2010 23:18

I agree, and I actually couldn't bear to complete the survey as it made my toes curl.

are they promoting it? i don't think there has been any value-judgement that i've seen... don't buy it myself, but i've filled the survey in

darkandstormy · 23/04/2010 23:23

less shit in my merlot

WhoIsAsking · 23/04/2010 23:31

Jesus wept.

Sometimes, just sometimes, I look around and I think - are people never satisfied?

MN may have taken a sponsorship from 5-alive to promote their products..oooooh, it contains less than 100 percent freshly squeezed adame bean and mango mix, but it's a hell of a lot better than diet coke...5-Alive have offered this sponsorship - MNHQ have accepted it, that means that we're not all paying subs or paying per click or are being bombarded by bloody spam (actually I am bombarded by spam, but of the penile/juicy woman sort - entirely NOT MN's fault) or all the other myriad of crap that other websites subscribe to.

Mumsnet is FREE. It is a fabulous resource to all sorts of mums. Mums who can afford to feed their children the very best ALL THE TIME, and also mums who sometimes can't, and mums who sometimes struggle to get their children to each 5 THINGS a day.

Surely to Christ we can stop this constant bloody BOLLEUX?

scottishmummy · 23/04/2010 23:42

is mn compelling you,do you feel put upon

i have volition and free will...mn doesnt make my choices

CarmenSanDiego · 23/04/2010 23:45

YANBU. Saccharine and crap. And that's just the survey

Joolyjoolyjoo · 23/04/2010 23:48

THanks, supersal- that brought a smile to my face

chaostrulyreigns · 23/04/2010 23:49

I have nothing against MN featuring any product that they want. I am big and clever enough to make my own judgements on what to buy and what not to buy.

My point was the survey was patronising and ridiculous. I would not waste my time on that utter tripe.

runnybottom · 23/04/2010 23:55

What WhoIs said.
With dirty big knobs on.

WhoIsAsking · 23/04/2010 23:56

Fair enough Chaos, and I agree.

I sometimes get irritated by this whole "MN is not serving me"

MN is a wide and diverse community. 5-Alive isn't the equivalent of heroin.

I work for a really great company which specialising in air conditioning? any chance of a sponsorship?

singsinthebath · 23/04/2010 23:57

I once flat shared with the marketing guy who invented Um Bongo. It was fairly cool then.....

CarmenSanDiego · 24/04/2010 00:01

Sorry, disagree with WIA. I enjoy Mumsnet but it's ultimately a business. You could compare it to a coffee shop. If it continues to provide a product and atmosphere I enjoy and has ethics I agree with, I will continue to provide my traffic and content (which is basically internet currency).

Surely by pointing out we don't approve of that product being advertised, we're actually providing helpful and valuable consumer feedback that... oh... they'd otherwise have to run a crappy survey to get!

Because for those who don't speak up, there'll be others who just stop enjoying the atmosphere and quietly withdraw their patronage to go elsewhere.

usualsuspect · 24/04/2010 00:17

I don't really take any notice of the adverts on MN ...
