....which according to its description is a "breakfast staple ideal for everyday family drinking as part of a healthy balanced diet", but actually it contains sugar, flavourings, aspartame, saccharin, and acesulfame K?
Do you want to feed this to your kids?

mn is a website not an orthodoxy.Self responsibility is key.one cannot say mn made me do it.we have choices we can decide whether or not to guzzle branded juices

WhoIsAsking · 24/04/2010 00:25

Ah CSG and therein lies the rub

I haven't actually got a problem with giving my children 5-Alive. When I'm in a motorway station and am buying them a "cancer and small AIDS" I will often purchase a 5- Alive as opposed to a fizzy coke or lemonade. Although, sometimes I will allow them a Sprite or 7-Up...

Sometimes I don't "get it" I suppose. I do the very best by my boys. They have 5-a-day. Everyday. I am very lucky that my children like fruit and veg....however, I totally understand those parents who are not so lucky.

I am also completely prepared to veer away from the ethos of "fresh food all the time" into the depths of fast food when necessary. Reality - for me anyway - means that I cannot meet the expectation of freshness/freshly squeezed/harvested a heartbeat ago food

As far as your point about your disapproval of product placement? you are completely free to express your displeasure, the same way that I am entitled to say that this particular product is not deserving of such a thread.

Ah, democracy - aint it grand?

juneybean · 24/04/2010 00:30

I miss sunny d, I bet that was full of shite.

WhoIsAsking · 24/04/2010 00:32

Sunny-D?

That was squeezed out of the remaining bollock of hitler..twas in the Albert Hall

CarmenSanDiego · 24/04/2010 00:33

While I still believe 5 Alive is Satan's love juice, I completely agree with your point about democracy.

You like 5 Alive so support it on the thread. I don't, so I say it's crud. Mumsnet can use all our opinions to gauge what Mumsnetters as a whole think and tailor their site accordingly.

Penthesileia · 24/04/2010 00:43

I will only support your campaign to rid the world of 5-Alive if you support mine to get rid of those banners advertising Incredibly Expensive Luxury Family Holidays That I Cannot Afford To Go On.

Oh, and the freaky washing powder with some kind of radioactive half-life.

WhoIsAsking · 24/04/2010 00:52

CSg -

Coo, that was a pleasant and oldskool disagreement.

(I'd don't buy cartons of 5-alive!)

5 Alive is utter crap.
But yes, MN a business.

I am continuously amazed at the crap drinks such as these and squashes and whathaveyou people buy for their kids.
Usully lined up on a warm sticky counter in the kitchen.

claig · 24/04/2010 07:28

do you remember the scare about fizzy drinks a few years ago about the preservative sodium benzoate (E211) and its reaction with ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) to sometimes create benzene and the harmful effects? I think that some of the fruit drinks contained vitamin C.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 24/04/2010 07:35

5 alive with rum is seriously delicous. Maybe they are trying to target us rather than our children

Nettiespagetti · 24/04/2010 07:49
LynetteScavo · 24/04/2010 07:57

I think MN should only advertise water, and organic, locally produced fruit and veg.

LittleSilver · 24/04/2010 08:34

No real objection to 5-alive (never buy junk it), but didobject to the survey. Don't think I've been patronised as much since I was 4.

off to buy some white jeans and roller blades to go with her tempons

sockmonkey · 24/04/2010 08:53

I met the Schofe cos of 5-alive so it brings back warm fuzzy memories.

cory · 24/04/2010 10:05

lol at "everyday family drinking"- sounds like we're all downing bottles of vodka with our toddlers as part of the bonding process

otherwise agree with Carmen

hocuspontas · 24/04/2010 10:17

I think attention SHOULD be brought to these quasi-products. Not everyone reads the labels and manufacturers shouldn't get away with these cheap, unnecessary and harmful ingredients in products aimed at children. A pack of concentrate costs no more in the supermarket and doesn't have any added ingredients (apart from water).
