unbelievable waste of time and money and abuse of legal power to continue for the US pursue this case, after all this time. No doubt mistakes have been made on both sides by the parents over the years but my god... not the way to seek redress. I doubt she needs a 'lesson'.

Fucking Americans....they should spend more time stopping children playing with guns.

winnybella · 21/04/2010 12:34

That's fucking insane.
We don't know all the details, but if she, her daughter and her ex-partner have a good relationship now, what's the point of dragging a seriously ill women to the US to stand trial? She already spent some time in jail and lost precious years with her daughter.
It's beyond my comprehension why would any judge agree to extradition in these circumstances.

winnybella · 21/04/2010 12:36

Yes, you get a feeling that it's more about kissing America's as than about any effort to make a just decision.

winnybella · 21/04/2010 12:36

*ass

SpeedyGonzalez · 21/04/2010 12:38

Good gracious. I mean, parental child abduction is wrong and this article doesn't give any indication of why she did this rather then collaborate with her ex-partner.

However.

For goodness' sake, the woman is so ill. How utterly monstrous and idiotic to pursue this case. Do the US courts have nothing else to fill their time? Do our legal authorities have no teeth?

It actually says that she's now on good terms with her former partner, so it sounds as though he's not the one driving this. The courts are just trying to prove a point. And our courts and home office are being utterly limp and caving in to the US authorities' demands - as usual. How awful. How shameful.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 21/04/2010 12:40

Ridiculous IMO.

FlookCrow · 21/04/2010 12:50

Typical US, grinding away on that bone...

omaoma · 21/04/2010 13:03

It's mad isnt it - I wondered if it was the ex-H holding a grudge but that doesn't seem to be the case... There's nothing good to say about the decision at all.

It does seem odd after all these years.
But why shouldn´t she be held accountable for breaking the law?

Perhaps if it had happened at the time she wouldn´t have been so ill & that woudn´t have been an issue.

Maleeka · 21/04/2010 13:21

The poor woman has lots years of her daughters life, thats punishment enough! What a bloody waste of time and money.

Maleeka · 21/04/2010 13:22

lost even!!! .....mumbles about not having a edit button on mn......

TarheelMama · 22/04/2010 08:41

I like how everyone is so quick to judge America. The woman abducted her child, she doesn't even deny it. So it's okay to flout the law if you're sick?????

toccatanfudge · 22/04/2010 09:02

I wonder how people would feel if it was the father that had abducted his child and flown back to the UK with her in the same manner?

If it was the father who had abducted the child (the girl was returned to him after 8 months), but then they all managed to build a good relationship and he was so sick that he was mostly bedridden and 12 years has passed I would feel the same way.

diddl · 22/04/2010 09:26

Yes, wonder why her Visa wasn´t renewed?

At the end of the day,the child was to be with her father, not a random stranger.

As others say, if the father had done it there would be an outcry.

What would have happened if they were married?

No I know she wasn´t married.
I wonder how quickly she could have returned if she had left the baby behind?

Why couldn´t she take the baby I wonder?

saslou · 22/04/2010 09:59

What sort of fucked up society refuses a visa to a woman and then tells her she can't take her own baby out of the country? To me, this is not a crime as the child is half British. If the US wanted the child to remain in the US, then they should have enabled the mother to remain with her. This should apply in all cases where parents are of different nationalities as no parent should be forced to leave a child behind. It is fucking barbaric. Surely though if she is not married to the father then her parental rights take precedence and the child would be registered as British as well as American?

But why should she be allowed to take the baby out of the country just because she is the mother?

What I am wondering is why, as the mother, she didn´t get documents so that she could legally take her daughter with her.

Unless she was relying on her Visa being renewed?
