It's bad enough that the taxi firm does

But this just takes the , I didnt think I got chinese that often

It was my voice and order that did it apparently

Think i'm gonna have to stop supporting local businesses !!

It was the number recognition software they have, not your name and voice. I hope .

DottyDash · 18/04/2010 17:48

Nah! Nothing embarrassing there!

What is is when they ring up to check you're ok and not in hospital because you haven't ordered for a while......not at all speaking from experience you understand

The pizza place does this, I worry when they ask if I want the same order
It's all on the computer, when they call they have your number/address/order history.

Magaly · 18/04/2010 17:51

That's just their computer system. when you ring they ask your name and number, fill it in on the screen and then the next time they ring they can say hello mrs cheesus 57 with noodles?

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 18/04/2010 17:54

Lol dotty !

nope, no software she said 'i'm guessing thats cheese from cheesy st, i recognise youre voice, and don't you usually get salt n pepper chips ??

My response, oh yes I almost forgot them

Oh, the chinese takeaway knows us on first name terms now. And we are asked if we want 'the usual'!

DottyDash · 18/04/2010 17:57

Have you had the Christmas card yet? (well, obviously not as in now, that would be way too early!!)

BertieBotts · 18/04/2010 17:59

We used to get an excellent Christmas card from our local Indian takeaway, it was all the family members' heads on dancing Santa bodies

One year they really pushed the boat out and sent a "present" - it was a diary and a mug.

TidyBush · 18/04/2010 18:00

Don't worry - our local chippy knows our order too

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 18/04/2010 18:00

We get a christmas card and a calender WITH MINE, THE DC's AND DPS NAME

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 18/04/2010 18:01

Yes, when we lived down south, the indian takeaway recognised our voices. My husband would say "Hello" and the chap would say "hello X, lamb tikka bhuna?"

So not only did he know who we were and where we lived, he knew what we were going to ORDER!!

And yes, we used to get christmas cards.

Oh but that's not the worst one.

The boy at the drive through mcdonald's said...

"Oh, you've changed your car."

JazzieJeff · 18/04/2010 18:02

haha that's awesome! I wish my local Indian recognised my voice, it takes me ages to order... I'm not that greedy, I just like to taste a little bit of lots of things in case I miss out

DottyDash · 18/04/2010 18:03

This thread is making me laugh on a very glum (volcanic ash based - isn't everything these days?!)day.
I love the idea of the heads on santa card!!
Twopence - that really does take the !!

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 18/04/2010 18:06

I know. after that, we started alternating them with the one on the by-pass.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 18/04/2010 18:07

Italian takeaway used to see my number & know the order! We didn't have a takeaway at that point so we did have some excuse though.

I could just eat their chilli gb now though ...

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 18/04/2010 18:09

Dps just confessed the Indian does that all the time and asks how the kids are

He dosent see what all the fuss is about !

weloveyoumisshannigan · 18/04/2010 18:11

I used to work in a takeaway and I knew loads of peoples orders. Sometimes the chef would come out the back and tell you to phone someone back because of some minor variation to their usual.

soapboxqueen · 18/04/2010 18:11

My FIL used to get christmas cards from our indian take away and even remembered spotting dh in town the previous day. Decided that we ate to much takeaway at that point.

edam · 18/04/2010 18:14

I knew it was time to do something about my lifestyle when I realised I had to say hello a dozen times in the short walk between the tube station and my flat. Newsagent - check. Chinese takeaway - check. Pizza delivery place - check. Fish n chip shop - check. Indian - check. In my defence, I had lived in that flat for seven years, and I was in my 20s so grabbing a takeaway after a good night out, but still...

DramaInPyjamas · 18/04/2010 18:15

Yep, the Christmas card, calender, DC once got personalised pencils/erasers with name/number of the chinese embossed on.. They use them at school

AND DH got a birthday card last birthday! God knows how they knew the date!

But they are really nice people. Very friendly.

BendyBob · 18/04/2010 18:15

I decided to give up Chinese takeaways once (it didn't last) on a mission to lose weight.

Dh went in for his order as usual and the staff all asked why he wasn't ordering for me and whether I was feeling ok and sent their best wishes

edam · 18/04/2010 18:15

(Only reason there are no pubs in that list is that the bars are too far from the windows, otherwise there would have been three locals...)

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 18/04/2010 18:18

Oh yeah, pubs. Back in my single days I would walk into my local and they'd see me walk in and by the time I got to the counter, there was my pint.
