It's bad enough that the taxi firm does

But this just takes the , I didnt think I got chinese that often

It was my voice and order that did it apparently

Think i'm gonna have to stop supporting local businesses !!

All four Both takeaways I call know my voice/rough order/address and I got free stuff from them last Christmas.
The taxi drivers know me too and sent me a get well soon card last week which was really sweet, if a tad embarrassing

cyb · 18/04/2010 18:22

Funnily enough, I've never experienced this until last night. I phoned our Indian order through and the chap said "Oh hello there Mrs Shockers, long time no hearing"(we've been budgeting). He asked if the children would like their usual Meen Moilee... yes, he knew our children's order!

Hassled · 18/04/2010 18:43

I'm feeling an odd combination of smug and jealous. I want free pencils and greetings in the street - must get takeaway-ing more .

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 18/04/2010 19:09

Hassled, you're welcome to my tyres from the chinese, I have plenty of spare ones to go around

I cant believe the boy at mcdonalds recognised the change of car, that is pretty funny.

we have had salads for the last 2 days, so feel a bit healthier, after our chinese on friday, when i was also asked if i wanted the usual .

i think its lovely they have such great customer relations.

SparklyGothKat · 18/04/2010 19:22

my local Indian knows me as soon as I say 'Can I order for delivery please?' He know what we want and our address He asks after the kids all the time

MsDav · 18/04/2010 19:28

I work opposite a Chinese takeaway, sometimes ( ie often) we get Chinese for lunch. We wave at they guy in there, he waves back and brings it over to us once its done. No words exchanged til that point he just knows what we want by now.

EasterBilby · 18/04/2010 19:41

Before we moved Fridays were always "Pizza Fridays". They knew us that well that they would phone us back to check they'd got it right if we varied it slightly.

They were most disappointed when we told them we were moving.... but weren't prepared to delivery 40 miles away.
They were the best takeaway pizzas I have Ever had. Whenever we went back to visit we would beg our friends to let us have pizzas (kind of awkward considering our mate runs a deli/bistro). We'd phone our order through and get "Oh hello, how's XXXXtown?" even though we left 5 years ago!

They shut a few weeks ago, the buildings all around them have been bought by Wetherspoons so the landlord hiked the rents up and they've had to shut up shop. I'm so sad we didn't get one last pizza.

EasterBilby · 18/04/2010 19:46

Twopence - when I worked in a pub we had the 100 club. When you knew the names of 100 regulars, and their usual drinks you'd get a pay rise.
I'm rubbish at names so never got the pay rise. I could remember their drinks though.

The old men who drank in the snug very very rarely spoke to me, not even to order drinks. Instead they'd leave a small pile of exactly the right money on the bar.

RunawayWife · 18/04/2010 19:48

Oh my, the Indian take out and the Chinese take out know me from my number
And starbucks start making my coffee as soon as I walk in the door

scottishmummy · 18/04/2010 19:55

haha, means you must like their grub.no bad thing

NorbertDentressangle · 18/04/2010 20:02

Our local Indian restaurant and takeaway know us well.

They always recognise DPs voice on the phone and have a beer (on the house) waiting for him when he goes to collect the food. If either of the DCs go with him they get an orange juice too.

At Xmas we had a delightful () clock from them, with the restaurant name on -its in the playhouse, the DC love it

pop1973 · 18/04/2010 20:14

My dh always rings through our order at a Chinese nearby to us. As soon as he talks to put the order through, they recognise him. He has a strong welsh accent and we don't live in Wales anymore. Plus when we do have a chinese we have the food often on a Friday and always order the same food. We only have the food order once a month but we must be classed as regulars now.

I think it was on mumsnet somebody said they went into their local much frequented chinese restaurant after a bit of a break, and the staff greeted them with hugs and said 'weh you bin? China?????!!". I nearly died giggling.

scottishmummy · 18/04/2010 20:21

suppose once you find a takeaway you like you stick to it. i know i do

uglymugly · 18/04/2010 20:28

Round the corner from me there are two hairdressers. I've lived here for yonks, they've been there for yonks. I pass them by every time I go to the "corner" shop. Initially I went to hairdresser A, but after a couple of years I transferred to hairdresser B. I went to hairdresser B for many years until she upset me. Then I went back to hairdresser A to book an appointment. The owner recognised me (as he'd seen me walk by his salon all those years), but didn't have to ask my name - he remembered that from about ten years or so previously. He also remembered which stylist had done my hair all those years ago. She remembered me, asking about my children (whose hair she had also cut). It was like going into the Twilight Zone.

Of course, I like to think they remembered me as this vibrant, fascinating woman with amazing hair.

ChippingIn · 19/04/2010 05:56

A couple of weeks ago I went into a Thai Takeaway I hadn't been to in 5 years (God I have been hanging out to go there - they are sooooooo good!! But anyway, I digress ) and she hugged me & made a right fuss!! She said'It's been sooo long, must be about 5 years yes? I don't remember your name, sorry, but do you still want ...' and rattled off our old usual!!!!

Sadly the Indian I was looking forward to and who knew our order (oh so very well) has gone.

I had assumed that both places had number recognition, they had to didn't they??, only to find out 'NO' it was simply the frequency of our orders....

BertieBotts · 19/04/2010 08:57

The pub thing isn't too bad - a friend of mine got an 18th birthday card from the pub he'd been drinking in for 2 years

bluecardi · 19/04/2010 09:21

Sounds good to me - a great local business that knows its customers. We have an independent toy shop that knows us. Always nice & friendly.

CheekyVimtoGal · 19/04/2010 10:19

our local indian does this at the end of the call, he will say 'xxxxxx' address? and il say yes

ShinyAndNew · 19/04/2010 10:21

I work in a chinese take away and I can guarantee you that it was the pooter who knew you (or your phone number) and not the counter staff.

Unless she knew your order too? Or asked 'the usual Miss Swisscheese?'

ClickNegg · 19/04/2010 10:24

i would be utterly ashamed if i spent so long troughing take aways that they KNEW me
