I realise this is rather dull but my god it's annoting me!

I have rather curly hair...ok VERY curly hair! is frizzy unless cut properly, even then its out of control!

If I grow it long the curls disaper!

It's taken years for me to like my hair (I now love it!), was bullied over it at school and i nearly shaved it off on more then one occasion!

I had it cut short yesterday so the curls are mad! I love it! but whenever I do this people say
"Oh why dont you straighten it?" "you looked like youve been plugged into the mains!"
"it's very, um, curly isn't it" "its very, well, Big!"
"worst hair is either curly or red...least your only 50% there" FWIW I would kill for really red hair! its amazing!

Put a pictur on Facebook and someone commented saying "Bloody 'ell Milk! you know you can STRAIGHTEN it!" and another saying "christ on a bike thats insane! god id hate my hair if it was like that"!

Do people really feel the need to comment on it?!

I told you it was dull!

Yip, I get these types of comments all the time at the hairdressers. Soooooo could not be bothered straightening my hair. Think its strange when people straighten their childrens hair too

Hi

I had my hair permed a few weeks ago, mega curly and I love it to bits!

Wish it was naturally like this, so I envy you. Not meant to be the "fashion", but I can feel it in my water that it's going to come back in voque sooooon!

Not read the whole thread so apologies if it has already been mentioned but google the Curl Girl Method and plopping. My friend with super curly hair swears by it.

Merle · 19/04/2010 08:01

'plopping' is what I am doing and my hair has gone crazy.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 19/04/2010 09:33

In the name of all that is good and pure, what the hell is Plopping?

I didnt tie my hair up before bed last night so its gone frigging crazy!
Am tempted to not wash it and leave it as it is and see what they say

By the by, as i said, at the end of the dayas long as you like your hair, thats all that matters! be it shirt, long, frizzy, curly, straight, wavy, pink, green, blue

I have similar hair and the exact same gripe.

If i had a £1 for all the "lucky" comments.... etc etc..

I HATE curls, no matter what anyone says......

sunchild77 · 19/04/2010 11:31

Sorry that should say "my Curls" usually everyone elses are lovely!!!!

SpiritualKnot · 19/04/2010 22:27

Googled curl girl and plopping earlier. Oh wow, washed my hair today using the advice on the site. Just used conditioner to wash it in, no shampoo, combed it with the conditioner in, put in a side parting and rinsed. Let it drip dry with no touching.

Looks fantastic! Can't bear the products they recommend, ends up all stiff looking, but this method worked really well. Lovely bouncy, soft, seperate curls. Feels lovely.

Didn't use plopping as my hairs a bit short, chin length. Think I might buy a diffuser though to speed up the drying.

As someone who has lived for 37 years with hair that is both curly AND red, these sort of comments now bounce straight off my shaggy mop. I have straightened it, but it takes ages, and the first hint of moisture in the air sends it "all Monica" as my DH charmingly puts it. As I live in the West of SCotland, moisture in the air is kinda hard to avoid, so I soon got bored straightening! I have a lovely hairdresser who loves getting her hands on my mop and delights in my curls, thankfully, so I am getting over the "orphan Annie" comments of my youth, and I really don't care any more!
