To want people to stop telling me to straighten my sodding hair!

I realise this is rather dull but my god it's annoting me!

I have rather curly hair...ok VERY curly hair! is frizzy unless cut properly, even then its out of control!

If I grow it long the curls disaper!

It's taken years for me to like my hair (I now love it!), was bullied over it at school and i nearly shaved it off on more then one occasion!

I had it cut short yesterday so the curls are mad! I love it! but whenever I do this people say
"Oh why dont you straighten it?" "you looked like youve been plugged into the mains!"
"it's very, um, curly isn't it" "its very, well, Big!"
"worst hair is either curly or red...least your only 50% there" FWIW I would kill for really red hair! its amazing!

Put a pictur on Facebook and someone commented saying "Bloody 'ell Milk! you know you can STRAIGHTEN it!" and another saying "christ on a bike thats insane! god id hate my hair if it was like that"!

Do people really feel the need to comment on it?!

I told you it was dull!

Your hair looks great.

I have an interest because about 2 weeks ago my hairdryer set the house on fire (luckily only in one room and we caught it quick).

Since then I have gone off hairdryers and have been looking at the curly hair threads on here. I am newly curly-ly militant. It's the future.

FairyCakeBump · 18/04/2010 17:56

If you think that's bad, wait until you have someone at work tell you your hair is 'untidy' and it's 'not up acceptable uniform standards', when all you've done is tie your curly hair back in a ponytail.

bronze · 18/04/2010 18:00

op your hair is lovely curly

jack I love your daughters hair
I might call it mad but in a very cool way

JackBauer · 18/04/2010 18:05

fairy, seriously? Jesus, who do you work for? BA?

FairyCakeBump · 18/04/2010 18:07

Thankfully it was a crappy job I had as a student, working for a company who did promotions and free samples inside supermarkets. The woman who told me that was a complete idiot though. I just smiled sweetly and asked her if it would be more acceptable if I shaved my hair off and she backed down.

Loshad · 18/04/2010 18:09

just rude, ignore them. i've got red, very curly hair and my Year 10 pupils are laways begging me to staighten it!!. Told them if they all pass their GCSE this summer I will do (probably quite safe really)

thumbwitch · 18/04/2010 18:19

I hate other people telling me what to do with my hair. It pisses me right off. My hair is a bugger to manage in that it is extremely fine, has a bit of curl to it but it is wayward.

"Friends" have even been to the bother of buying my 'products' - either to ease the fluffiness (it's not even enough to be called frizzy) or to 'hold the curl' - repulsive stuff that makes my hair go crispy. Yuk!

Another "friend" told me I was too old now to have long hair and should really think about getting it cut short - it's infinitely worse to manage when it's short!

If I straightened it, I would look like I had hardly any hair as the only thing that gives it body is the bit of wayward curl.

I met an acquaintance recently who used to always have straight hair, or so I thought. She had really really curly hair so I asked if she had had it permed - no, this was its natural state but she had been straightening it for so many years that it had become damaged and brittle and she had been advised to lay off the straightening to give it a chance to recover.

Tell 'em all to bog off and mind their own, I do.

EmmaBemma · 18/04/2010 18:43

I'd love to have properly curly hair - I think you're really lucky, and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 18/04/2010 18:45

thank you one and all!

The way I see it is it's your hair! you have to live with it so it should be how you want it!

Well thats my theory! Havent put it into practice much though!

But now I will embrace my curls!

Only downfall is i look like heather trott from Eastenders

Straight hair makes me look like Cher though

God I'd love curly hair.
A good friend of mine has mad curly hair that she hates, but I love it and think it suits her down to the ground, it's all bouncy and fun like her

Tell them to mind their own! They're probably jealous if they look like everyone else, with boring straight hair like mine

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 18/04/2010 20:04

I've got massive curly hair too and I HATE it straighened. It takes hours and it looks boring flat and shite. Embrace the curls. Them straightees are just jealous.

BessieBoots · 18/04/2010 20:04

How rude! Your hair is ace!
I too am a curly, and have straightened occasionally. Thing is, everyone straightens these days, so everyone just looks the same- Much better to be natural imo.

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 18/04/2010 20:10

I love my curls- I always get really nice comments when my hair is at its curliest and bounciest.

RedRedWine1980 · 18/04/2010 20:15

Your hair looks nice- not massive or mad or any of the other negative things people come out with, its great to be happy with what you have!

minxofmancunia · 18/04/2010 20:19

I used to have v ringletty curly bouncy hair, it was madness! Sadly 2 pregnanciesand age genearally has wrecked it and whilst it's still curly it no longer has oerfectly formed ringlets and bounce. More of a scraggy mess.

It's pretty long, am thiknig of a shorter cut to try to get the curls back..

Whats the curl girl method please?

Magaly · 18/04/2010 20:21

I get this too. whenever i have my hair cut and they blow dry it, people go on about how it suits me straight, and they really seem to hammer that point home. As though I were unaware of how my hideous hair was so unflattering!! I think i know that, but short of getting up at 5 am every morning to blowdry my very thick wavy weird awkward hair straight......this is it.

BlackFlyInYourChardonnay · 18/04/2010 20:27

Ohhh I've just looked at your profile- your hair is lovely!

I've always really wanted curly hair, my step-sisters hair is dark and curly like yours, mine is blonde and straight, and I was so jealous growing up.

Now she straightens hers when she goes out. And I curl mine when I go out.

Typical isn't it?!

MilkNoSugarPlease · 18/04/2010 20:36

Thank you all and Hello my my curly sisterhood sisters

minx- my hair is a scraggy mess when longer then my shoulders, currently above my shoulders and has formed lovely curls try it!

I shall think of all your lovely comments whilst bouncing around with my hair tomorrow

Do you want to borrow my ghd's?

Buddleja · 18/04/2010 21:40

Get rid of all your current anitcurl friends and replace them with us instead.

I get a similar thing from (younger friends) about the fact I don't use fake tan, it seems that there are certain things you HAVE to do according the the law of certian 20 somethings - straighten your hair poker straight, have a tan and wax all your bush off.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 18/04/2010 21:50

Oi tapas

Sounds like a plan buddleja

Lmao! that plan is so true!
