To refuse to eat........

The delicious home-made Spaghetti Bolognaise that had been lurking in the fridge since Easter Sunday?

DH thinks I'm being overly cautious as he always ignores BB dates and "is never ill". And "it's been refrigerated at 2degrees and therefore will be fine."

He's being soo freaking parsimonious at the moment he seriously expected me to reheat it in the 9th day and be grateful for quality homemade food. WTF?

Would you have eaten it?

Had cheese and potato pie btw!

well i'm like your dh generally... but 9 days??? no!

ByTheSea · 13/04/2010 22:50

I wouldn't eat it, but that's me.

ByTheSea · 13/04/2010 22:51

FWIW, my DH probably would eat it.

sharbie · 13/04/2010 22:52

Ugh no 2 day limit for me, maybe 3 at a push.

hogshead · 13/04/2010 22:52

nope!

i love cheese pie btw! Family favourite

pocketmonster · 13/04/2010 22:56

I probably wouldn't eat it - 9 days is a bit too long...probably 4 - 5 days is the max for me (and only if it passes the bloodhound sniff test!)

chaostrulyreigns · 13/04/2010 23:22

Yep that's what I said 3 days max!

Yep ByTheSea - I told him he could have it but the lovely bubbling c&p pie persuaded him otherwise.

Strangely - it did smell and look fine as I was chucking it in the bin!

3 days absolute max.

melpomene · 14/04/2010 00:21

YANBU. 9 days is way too long.

I'm fairly laid back and will stretch to 4 or 5 days for some leftovers, but then I'm vegetarian. Meat that's gone off can cause some nasty illnesses, can't it?

danmae · 14/04/2010 00:44

omg i would not let the cat eat it after 9 days and i dont like our cat

SusieCarmichael · 14/04/2010 00:45

its 3 days! i don't even give it to the dog after about 4!

ChippingIn · 14/04/2010 01:14

Nope, I'm with you, 3 days MAX and then only if it's heated to a volcanic temperature

Anyone want to share their cheese pie recipies??

kreecherlivesupstairs · 14/04/2010 07:55

YANBU Op. Another vote for a cheese pie recipe from here.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 14/04/2010 07:58

YANBU!!

In our house cheese and potato pie is mashed potato with loads of cheese mixed in. Sometimes I add a raw egg into the mash before it goes into the oven. Yum.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 14/04/2010 07:59

I agree with everyone. 3 days max, preferably 2, please share pie recipe.

My husband has been known to consider leftover roast chicken on a Tuesday/Wednesday when we bought it Friday. And he's the one who's sensitive to food poisoning, too.

Kathyjelly · 14/04/2010 08:09

No, definitely not. Has your dh ever had salmonella poisoning. It's awful and lasts for ages. Definitely not worth the risk for £1 worth of old spaghetti.

LittleMrsHappy · 14/04/2010 08:09

Why was it in your freezer 9 days later

and No, 2 days Max, meat gets nastiest very very quickly

OrmRenewed · 14/04/2010 08:14

No. 9 days is even past the Orm Rubicon!

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 14/04/2010 08:16

LittleMrsHappy, in our case it's because it gets put in there after the original dinner, and then no-one notices it again for a few days and then thinks oh hey, look at this, a ready made din....oh, eurgh, maybe not.

Firawla · 14/04/2010 08:54

I thought 3 days was the absolute maximum for everyone
9 days no way!!!

SamCam · 14/04/2010 11:08

I know someone who feels very strongly about best before dates. As in, ignore them. And this person spent the first 4 years of his life in Auscwitz (the concentration camp for Jews, can't spell it). Always makes me think, that one.

(I wouldn't eat it)

Alambil · 14/04/2010 11:11

I'd eat it if it'd been frozen but not just friged

TrillianAstra · 14/04/2010 11:11

Wouldn't eat it after 9 days. Would eat it after more than 3 though.

Why didn't you notice it in the fridge earlier and eat it or freeze it? very wasteful, tut tut. (I wish I had some homemade spag bol)

ShinyAndNew · 14/04/2010 11:16

I mostly ignore BB dates and have never poisoned myself yet, but I wouldn't eat something that had been in the fridge that long.

bellissima · 14/04/2010 11:28

I have a friend (v nice divorced dad) who keeps cooked stuff in the fridge that long. But I don't think he actually eats it - I think it's like having old friends in there to greet when you open the door. I have been known to send them on their way into the green bin when visiting.... (I do tell him)
