OP posts:
brightyoungthing · 12/04/2010 21:46

£35-40 a week electricity in the winter in a 3 bed flat with night storage heating. Just turned heating off so will now be about £20-25 a week. I hate winters

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 12/04/2010 21:47

£110 a month combined. 2 bed house.

Although I seem to be getting more and more in credit. They aren't suggesting reducing my DD though.

choosyfloosy · 12/04/2010 21:48

just, ring them up and tell them! you can set it any level you like.

my supplier offered me a cheque for the credit and £34 a month payment, or £24 a month.

StarExpat · 12/04/2010 21:49

approx £100pcm for elec and gas for a 1 bed maisonette
and we are both teachers, out of the house at least from 7.30am-4pm M-F term time, when it's all OFF.
I keep calling and asking what's wrong - because I don't understand how this can be true. It is very, very small. We did keep heat on higher and more when DS was tiny, but not when weather is not freezing... I don't get it.

GreatBallsOfFluff · 12/04/2010 21:51

£55 a month combined, 4 bed semi but only 2 of us here plus I work full time so no one here all day. Also I'm pretty sure last bill I owed them money for both so I wouldn't be surprised if they upped the DD's soon

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 12/04/2010 21:53

They say they review it annually and if you are 3 or more months in credit they refund it automatically and use a meter reading to establish your useage and adjust future DD accordingly. If you are less than 3 months in credit they carry it forward and use it to make your monthly payments as little as possible.

I am currently £280 in credit and growing.

EggyAllenPoe · 12/04/2010 21:54

its been such a cold winter, and even in our 2 bed house....expensive.

I'll know the true figure when i get my bill in a few days though its about £100 per month for gas alone. and we have a combi boiler....for summer its less than £50 per month for both, or was last year.

Feelingsensitive · 12/04/2010 21:56

£98 for both for a 3 bed house. I am home so heating/washing machine/tumble dryer on alot.

staranise · 12/04/2010 21:57

£60 combined, 3 bed end of terrace and we have the heating on lots though never use the tumble dryer. I work from home plus have three DCs, two pre-schoolers so in a lot.

PavlovtheCat · 12/04/2010 22:00

too much!

Was paying £150 per quarter for electricity, now changed tariff, promised by the liar bloke it would be 2% cheaper at least now - Woo how great is that . But our usage has gone up since DH lost his job and I am on matleave. Trying to cut it down. We have a 3 bedroom apartment, 2 adults, one 3yo, one 19wk old, a 4year old washing machine, and a dishwasher, plus the usual mod cons. I normally pay £50 a month now, used to be £30.

Gas - around £90 per quarter atm due to horrendous winter resulting in highe temp on heating, has been as slow as £75 - gas cooker, gas central heating with combi boiler. I usually just pay £30 and when i get some credit I skip a month.

With EDF.

PavlovtheCat · 12/04/2010 22:01

sorry, so that means £80 per month for both electricity and gas in total.

gaelicsheep · 12/04/2010 22:06

There's a general trend here that those on all electric are spending loads and loads more. We are £120 a month here, and I think we're probably using more if I'm honest. We used one large and one small storage heater this winter (in the Highlands with temperatures sub zero for weeks on end) and our house averaged 10 degrees.

So that being the case, why do fuel companies give discounts for dual fuel customers who are going to spend loads less to start with? It is not fair, and nothing is ever said or done about it by the regulator.

CrankyTwanky · 12/04/2010 22:06

£100pm for gas callor-LPG and £60 for leccy. And this is supposed to be an "Eco-house" with full-on insulation etc.
I have a dishwasher and tumbly, but not on often, and the dishwasher is small and new etc.

What am I doing wrong!?

loolop · 12/04/2010 22:07

We pay just over £100 combined in a 3 bed semi. 2adults and 3yr old. Although we haven't had our bill for over the winter yet so might be in debit! Tis expensive.....don't even get me started on petrol prices grrr!

gaelicsheep · 12/04/2010 22:08

Topped up by portable heaters in the evenings I should add. Otherwise we'd have all got hypothermia!

Seona1973 · 12/04/2010 22:20

we pay £123 per month for gas/electric for a 4 bed detached for 2 adults and 2 kids - we are about £5 in credit so the payment has seen us through the winter (and it was a cold one here in Scotland!). I rarely use the tumble drier but had to boost the heating a lot during Dec and Jan.

jaabaar · 12/04/2010 22:22

70 pounds for terraced house

porcamiseria · 12/04/2010 22:26

we get british gas dual fuel, similar sized house for 77 quid pm

tootootired · 12/04/2010 22:32

I pay £97.50 per month but seem to have got into credit by £200 or so (3 bedroom semi, not modern).

Scottish Power have a feature where you can look at your energy usage over the previous quarters:

Winter average : Gas 89 units/day Elec 23
Summer: Gas 7 units/day Elec 8

So in our case it's obviously heating (electric and gas) that uses 80% of the energy - insulation might make a big difference, or how long the heating is on for.

zisforzebra · 12/04/2010 22:34

£85 per month dual fuel with British Gas for a two bed detached. We pay the same all year round and it evens itself out.

jendaisy · 12/04/2010 22:40

Jesus...I'm being properly robbed. My house is 4 storey, 4 bedroom Georgian townhouse and my last gas/leccy bill for the quarter was.....wait for it......£740. I need to move I think.

serinBrightside · 12/04/2010 22:45

Good grief Jen! You are not growing cannabis in the loft are you?

We pay £120 gas and £60 electric per month but that is set to drop significantly as we have just switched suppliers after being overcharged by Scottish Power.

PavlovtheCat · 12/04/2010 22:50

jen is that real bill or estimated?

June2009 · 12/04/2010 22:55

Jen you might need to change tariff, our last bill was a sickening £800 for both for the last quarter and after changing (to "supersave7" or whatever their current deal on their website is) we pay £150 for both per month. (with Eon).

StrawberriesAndCherries · 12/04/2010 22:56

wow the difference is amazing for the same thing! Ours is £100 per month for both, 3 bed detached, tumble drier on at least once a day, washing machine 2/3 times a day, dishwasher once a day.
