To think that MN is incredibly cliquey and only oldies/popular posters get responses to their threads

Unless a post is outrageous, if you're not known = no responses

Krugerellie - "bumping" a thread just means replying to it to get it back up to the top of the Active lists again. Sometimes people do that by just putting something like on it, to make it clear that's what they're doing, but sometimes they post something else like "any other suggestions?" etc

CoteDAzur · 01/04/2010 16:10

You should have seen MN before the old crowd left with the "Moldies" saga. It was truly cliquey. Newbies were routinely chastised for daring to bring up a topic that was previously discussed (albeit some years ago) and most threads would be killed by the same people starting to talk about personal stuff that mere mortals were not privy to.

Madascheese · 01/04/2010 16:10

FioFio

We'll have to sort out some counselling for you for that. They thought I was a man too if it's any consolation at all.

WhoIsAsking · 01/04/2010 16:11

Dogs and kids do not mix though.

Either they think we're uber witty just like them which is a bit of a worry

Or...

they'd want us in their gang for the cool points...

shall we agree to go for the latter option?

Megglevache · 01/04/2010 16:17

Oh no Whiffle, mine get ignored all the time.

So I name change and talk about how crap it is having to have so much bum love(on a Friday of course )

Talking of oldies...By gosh CD and FioFio I thought you'd vanished off planet MN!

Oblomov · 01/04/2010 16:17

you are talking nonsense. i have been here 6 years and don't start threads that often. but in the last few days i started 3 :
rubbish collection got 100's of posts.
trojan got about 10.
handwiting websites got 3.

was happy with all.
you are taking it all too personally.

CoteDAzur · 01/04/2010 16:18

It worked too well, actually, ending in the death of many a thread.

In the middle of a conversation, you would get "Hi xxx, did you get my message on your mobile". Then "No, but I talked to your mom" yada yada. After a page of this, thread dies. R.I.P.

muggglewump · 01/04/2010 16:19

It's the same on any forum I've ever belonged to.
Of course well known posters get answered more, because even if it's a mundane topic, their friends want to answer.

There's nothing wrong with that. Everyone is sometime new, and I've been on sites where I'm considered one of the clique because I know and have met people.

Keep posting, soon you'll be familiar, and you'll always get a reply.

It's the nature of internet boards.
Oh. and moaning about them never works, just makes you look a bit petty and pathetic

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/04/2010 16:20

Agree cOTED'Azure. I was a lot more cliqey a couple of years ago than it is now.

Not that I minded tbh. But I like the fact that there is less of the 'fgs this has been done to death' now.

elliemental · 01/04/2010 16:27

I am a namechanger and I can't say I've noticed zero responses - anymore than when I am in my other name. I am a serial loser.

whifflegarden · 01/04/2010 16:27

I started this thread tongue in cheek, and as previously stated out of boredom.

Really, I'm not taking it personally. Of course I understand it's natural that more frequent and longstanding, funnier, controversial posters will get more responses.

I accept that I am childish, talking nonsense etc Will wait for the bum love tomorrow. Happy for this thread to die.

oh i LOVE a clique
and i LOVE a fight

Dumbledoresgirl · 01/04/2010 16:30

Whifflegarder, you are right. It has always been so. The way to get your threads answered is to respond to every poster, thus bumping your thread up (which I see you did) and also to post prolifically elsewhere, thus getting your name known. We have all been through the same and this is what we did. And even then, you can post a thread and still not get any response, or only get abuse. Such is life, I'm afraid.
