Unless a post is outrageous, if you're not known = no responses

It's so not cliquey [waves at Rockbird]

Mongolia · 01/04/2010 15:43

Don't be so sensitive. When I got here everything was fields and yet, I hardly get any replies. Perhaps I have far too much of a normal life...

whifflegarden · 01/04/2010 15:43

AClosedMouthGathersNoFoot I love your name!

yellowbutterfly · 01/04/2010 15:46

I hear you whiffle!! bored too. raining and miserable.
I'll make a point of looking for your threads and replying.

thought has crossed my mind though.

am getting slightly paranoid that once i do reply the thread stops, if this is the case i apologise.

only trying to be chatty and give support/advice if can

AMumInScotland · 01/04/2010 15:47

Rockbird - Puzzlerocks got told off politely asked to desist by MNHQ for the thread-bumping. But lots of people look regularly in unanswered threads to see if we can give them a push. It just depends though - so often there's nothing I can anser in there!

cyb · 01/04/2010 15:48

If you are hilarious and stylish you can form your own clique

yellowbutterfly · 01/04/2010 15:48

AClosedMouthGathersNoFoot · 01/04/2010 15:50

OP posts:
Rockbird · 01/04/2010 15:52

Really? Aw that's a shame, she did such a good service. Am going to check the unanswereds every day now and see if I can help.

hippipotamiHasLost80lbs · 01/04/2010 15:52

Don't be daft. I have been on MN for 4 years (virtually all the time with a variation of the same name, so recognizable) and sometimes don't get responses to my threads. It is nothing to do with how well known you are / being in a quiche, just to do with luck, timing and the nature of your post (sometimes)

Keep at it - don't take it personally

Madascheese · 01/04/2010 15:53

whiffegarden - arf at 'feeling better already'

WhoIsAsking · 01/04/2010 15:53

I only got about 3 replies to my post earlier, and it was hilarious and about farting. MAKE OF THAT WHAT YOU WILL.

ericnorthmansmistress · 01/04/2010 15:54

You started a thread being mean to get attention? What are you, 4?

Krugerellie · 01/04/2010 15:55

Please can someone explain what bumping is (and how to do it) - just in case I ever get the urge. Also, what does pfb stand for? Ta

AMumInScotland · 01/04/2010 15:56

The thing was, she wasn't really answering the threads, just bumping them, which meant if they didn't get a "proper" reply quite quickly they'd vanish down the lists and since they weren't in Unanswered any more they would be pretty much invisible. At least in Unanswered they have some chance of being noticed by someone who can move the conversation on a bit.

WhoIsAsking · 01/04/2010 15:56

Bumping mean when one posts on a thread, it bumps it to the top of the list of...oh someone else take over, I'm making a right pigs ear out of this.

I agree you need to post something interesting.

Mirrorball · 01/04/2010 16:05

Well I just had a little look over on unanswered posts and I'm not surprised they're unanswered.

BritFish · 01/04/2010 16:05

basically, if you want a thread answered, you need to make sure it has one of these [or more] in it.

-gender stereotyping
-mother and toddler parking spaces
-disabled parking spaces
-judging another mothers parenting technique
-outrageous generalising statement in the title
-a topic that half of mumsnet jumps on and flames the OP for not 'generalising' when anyone with half a brain realises the OP wasnt.
[see the thread a while ago where the OP complained about people who are not really ill complaining of ailments all the time, and people came along like-OH, SHOULD I HAVE SHUT UP ABOUT MY [insert serious problem here] YOU EVIL PERSON YOU DROWN PUPPIES ETC ETC.
-teenage pregnancy
-macdonalds!
-not getting an invite to another childs birthday party
-dogs and kids
[because all dogs are evil, and if they growl at your child -once, under duress- they are clearly VICIOUS and must be destroyed at all costs]
-a thread about a thread
-husband not sharing childcare/cooking/cleaning
-sexualising children at a young age
-exposing kids to innapropriate language nudity
-closely followed by a thread about how being naked is perfectly natural and we should teach children to not be ashamed
-then follow it up with a thread saying we should encourage more women to be sexually free
-ooh, and THEN follow it up by some random over the top 'feminist' comment like 'blowjobs are demeaning to all women' or 'missionary is demeaning to all women'
-maternity leave
-teachers not liking your kids
-actually punishing a child. as in calling them horrible and sending them to the naughty step.
instant outrage on that one.
-baby names, where you say a names awful, then someone comes along and says its their DD's names [okay, that ones not controversial, but those threads are always awkwardly hilarious]
-not inviting children to weddings
-weddings overseas
-MOTHER IN LAWS
-Stepchild
-being on benefits

have i missed any out?
