to feel just a little smug that I am eating melon and grapes for breakfast - even though it is (gasp) precut fruit?

That's it, really - I almost never eat breakfast, but today I came upon a box of precut melon and grapes in the fridge, and decided that would make a good breakfast - so am I being good for eating breakfast (and fruit, at that) or have I consigned myself to Mumsnet outer darkness because it is pre-prepared fruit?

Yes you are being smug, pre-cut or not! Lol!! Just kidding, well done you for your healthy start to the day.

I had branflakes with raisins...should I feel guilty that I didn't grow and dry the grapes myself?!!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/03/2010 10:59

Absolutely, Branflake Girl - you and I should be in the corner together - hanging our heads in shame - lol!

If that is all you are eating for breakfast I wouldn't feel smug - that's hardly enough to see you through to lunch, is it?

Perhaps some hand-knitted hemp muesli too, to counter the pre-cut thing?

mawbroon · 29/03/2010 11:16

A few bits of fruit wouldn't even touch my hunger!! It's a good start though, but you need to eat more than that!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/03/2010 11:20

I rarely eat breakfast at all - the antidepressants I am on make me queasy in the morning so I usually don't feel like food until mid to late morning, by which time I am starving and eat rubbish.

I am shameful, I know.

notsochickchickchicken · 29/03/2010 11:36

Pre-cut fruit shame on you.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/03/2010 11:42

Please don't send me to the Naughty step - I would have to be there for three-quarters of an hour!

OP posts:
runnybottom · 29/03/2010 12:12

I had that, so I take them last thing at night and now I wake up starving!

said · 29/03/2010 12:18

I had half a vanilla slice for mine. Felt great.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/03/2010 12:34

I was told not to take mine at night, runnybottom, because they were making me sleep badly - seems I am caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Said - I like the sound of your breakfast!

Am now off to have a bacon butty for lunch!

OP posts:
runnybottom · 29/03/2010 13:04

thats a bit of a bugger then! Maybe have breakfast first and then take them, might be better not on an empty stomach?

Bensmum76 · 29/03/2010 13:07

Only problem with having fruit for brekkie is that I would be STARVING hungry by 10 and would then be tempted to buy some choccie from our work charity box!!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/03/2010 13:11

That's a good thought, runnybottom - I will give that a try from tomorrow.

I'm now a little worried because I want to eat some more fruit, after my bacon sandwich - this is most unlike me - could I have been kidnapped by aliens in the night, and not noticed?

OP posts:
BranflakeGirl · 29/03/2010 15:51

StayingDavidTennantsGirl - I've always taken my antidepressants after food. Same with any meds, better taken after food. Try it tomorrow...and really rebel this time and have tinned fruit!!! Lol!

Sorry, did I go too far?!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/03/2010 23:12

It was a bit of a shock, Branflake Girl, but I got over it. Friends now, I hope!

I'm going to try having my tablets a bit later tomorrow, and see if I can motivate myself to eat breakfast - and whether I can then remember to take the tablets. One of the reasons I take them first thing is that the routine helps me remember - the first thing I do after swinging my legs out of bed is to take the tablet. Other than that one, I am absolutely bob useless at remembering to take tablets - even ones that might be helpful for me, like supplements. I blame my age, and my fading faculties.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/03/2010 23:14

Ooh - and I've just remembered - the first time I did weightwatchers, I used to have tinned fruit with a squeeze of chocolate sauce on top - the fruit was one of my Points, and the chocolate sauce was a treat from time to time.

I do the same last thing at night, but I still forget sometimes! Glad you reminded me, better take one now.....

mmm Aldi tinned tropical fruit......

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 30/03/2010 09:54

Well - I forgot and took the tablet first thing, but was feeling queasy before I took it anyway. But I have had a banana, so am not a total sinner.

Hmm - I haven't taken any supplements, though. Darnit - Go directly to Jail, do not pass Go, do not collect £200.

OP posts:
BranflakeGirl · 30/03/2010 10:48

Maybe set a reminder on your mobile to take your tablets after your breakfast.

Banana's are good...no jail for you, even if you didn't take your supplements.

SouthDevonDelight · 30/03/2010 10:54

Just to say I'm smiling at your description of "I came upon a ....." - as if it was a bit of a surprise! Assuming (apologies if this is way off the facts) that maybe there's a 50% chance YOU did the shopping and put food away in the fridge - what were you thinking would happen to it after that if not to be eaten???

PS - in my world, fruit is great for breakfast, but usually followed by something else as well!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 30/03/2010 11:28

Lolol SouthDevonDelight - yes, I do do the shopping, and I did purchase said pre-cut fruit. Sadly I also have the memory span of a goldfish, so was honestly (and pleasantly) surprised to find the fruit in the fridge.

The mobile phone reminder is a good idea, Branflake Girl - as long as I remember to keep the phone charged up (apparently a mobile is more useful if it is charged up, and if you keep it with you instead of leaving it at home - who knew!!). This is a facet of mobile phone technology that I have yet to come to grips with. In fact, my phone is as dead as a dodo now - so am I putting it on charge? Am I buffalo - I am here, mumsnetting!

OP posts:
BranflakeGirl · 30/03/2010 16:56

Writing from the sin bin here...pre-packed stir fry veg for lunch with tinned peaches for dessert!

Mobile phone needs charging?! Really?! And you can carry it around with you?! Darn, I knew there was something I missed when I didn't read the instructions!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 30/03/2010 17:18

It's still not on charge now, BranflakeGirl - even though I wrote about it nearly 6 hours ago.

Stir fry veg, and tinned peaches for dessert sounds nice - I had left over risotto (well, it is more of a chicken and bacon savoury rice thingy, but it's mum's recipe and she called it risotto and I'm not going to argue with her about it.....)
