have just returned from a 4 night "break" from whinfell forest and couldn't be more pleased to be home.

It was tacky, tatty and just a bit crap really. Food in restaurants absolutley minging so ended up cooking all the time, hardly a break.

"executive2 lodge grubby, dark and decorated like a travel lodge.

Sports plaza cheap and nasty, very artificial atmosphere. Why do people rave about it?

I've never been anywhere so culturally devoid i my whole life.

Don’t feel bad @ShadeofViolet - many, many people love it- am sure you’ll have a great time. Hope you enjoy your well earned break.

Nicknacky · 13/11/2020 22:56

VestaTilley The poster probably can’t even remember her holiday.....the thread is 10 years old!!!

grassisjeweled · 13/11/2020 23:19

Are they still open at the moment?

nothingcomestonothing · 13/11/2020 23:49

ZOMBIE!!!! Why do people resurrect a 10 year old thread?

helgasmelga · 13/11/2020 23:54

Butlins much better value

Marmitecrackers · 14/11/2020 04:41

I think it's great if you like the idea of being outdoorsy without it being too much.

I hated it personally. I think the lodges are shabby, it's very busy and I hate rushing about for timed events.

We however normally go camping / drive off in transporter to remote places for walking and cycling etc. My sister in law is not outdoorsy and her boys aren't either so they Loved it as they felt like they were in the woods and countryside whereas to me it felt artificial.

Equally microwave heated or deep fried food is not my idea of a nice meal

I’m a fan! Our 2 kids love it... plenty of time in the pool and we book them one activity a day. They love the outdoor play parks, cycling everywhere and exploring the forrest. Kids are fussy eaters so we only use the restaurants once and cook ourselves or order delivery. We are literally in the lodge for food and sleeping, but then v we are quite an active family. We’ve not been during school holidays though so I wonder if that makes a difference. Now the eldest is in school we are more restricted but post-Covid, we will definitely be back

TheDuchessOfAquitaine · 14/11/2020 05:33

Ah zombie...Blush

AlwaysCheddar · 14/11/2020 07:42

I think if you don’t know any better, then I get why people like it. If your holidays are in a caravan in (insert awful place name) then you go to centre parts, it’s luxury. If you go to 3 star in Benidorm, cp is ok. If you do proper 4/5 star overseas, cp is shite. I think it’s overpriced hell.

slashlover · 14/11/2020 07:46

@Sarah24680 why bump a 10 YEAR OLD thread? FFS!

Meatshake · 14/11/2020 09:12

Butlins and center parcs are basically the same except for the clientele.

Butlins you have people wearing Primark with Kaylee-Mae in tow, Center parcs is a bit more wall to wall (tree to tree) yellow Joules waterproof coats with darling Isabella and rambunctious-but-just-exploring-hes-not-naught-really Tobias-Hugh.

Facilities are slightly nicer at Butlins, better accommodation, nicer layout. The shows are really lovely for little kids.

Center parcs just has a few pine trees around each villa but its not exactly "forest" as such. Woburn is particularly dire- nothing but road noise and a really shit pool. There's very little space to actually walk in the woods or anything. It's like the wilderness for people who live in London 😏😂 At least Butlins is a bit more honest about what it is.

Sarah24680 · 14/11/2020 10:35

Piss off u rude gits. To everyone else, thanks for input. I defo fancied it but looking for a week out of school holiday season next year for 2 adults and 1 16 year old prices were above 2 grand for basic accommodation so about £300 per night!!! Think taps should be spouting gold for that amount.

NullcovoidNovember · 14/11/2020 10:39

I've never understood them and there have been enough posts on here about zero cs to put me off.

One famous one was about a huge night build taking place, yards from their accmd. They even posted the noise and lights.. No one gave a shite, they had paid 1000s for that...

For the same money you could stay in a high end self catering private holiday house or high end b and b.
Actual luxury..

Sarah24680 · 14/11/2020 10:39

Not sure if it's open at the moment in response to someone. We actually found a different site with better accommodation (hot tub included) in the woods for half the price. would share but only two left when we're thinking if going, soz!

NullcovoidNovember · 14/11/2020 10:41

Always, I've never been able to afford 4 or 5 *over seas.

Cp is still my idea of over priced hell!!

LEELULUMPKIN · 14/11/2020 10:46

It would be my idea of hell.
