In a good way

Am co-sleeping, extended bf-ing, baby-led weaner.

On my shelf I have 'Raising Boys', 'What Mothers Do', 'how to talk so children will listen...' and 'Our Baies Ourselves' (but I found that one all by myself!)I want 'The Politics of Breastfeeding' and Ann Sinnots book.

My non-mumsnetting mummy pals are like

I wonder how I would have parented if mumsnet had not been recommended to me. I am very happy with the way things are though.

I mostly lurk but have found the support and advice on here invaluable

Welcome! I too was, quite a long time ago and I don't regret it.

I know my friends think I'm mad to be extended bf-ing, BLWing, using real nappies and much more, and maybe some of those things I would have done without MN, but having the support and knowing that you're not alone is a great feeling when you don't know anyone in RL who is doing any of those things.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 26/03/2010 21:54

if mumsnet could talk to you it would be saying this

PigeonPie · 26/03/2010 21:55

BTW, your next book should be Sue Palmer's 21st Century Boys

scottishmummy · 26/03/2010 22:00

nope.biddulph is toxic woman know your place tosh

might take a mn reccy on makeup etc but nowt else

BitOfFun · 26/03/2010 22:01

Have you got a mooncup yet? I bought one when I wasn't even menstruating- now that's brainwashing

randomrabbit · 26/03/2010 22:02

I think that mn makes me want to to the opposite a lot of the time tbh ..

scottishmummy · 26/03/2010 22:08

agree.words on a screen dont permeate to my real life

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 26/03/2010 22:11

You don't need to follow what people on here say. Find your own path and your own way to raise your children. Everyone's parenting is different (hence my link).

ButterPie · 26/03/2010 22:11

LOL, BOF, I did the same, I bought one about a month ago now and I am still ebf with no plans to introduce food for another month yet

Stottie- Are you in the NE by any chance? (I am too, despite having a regional food name from the NW)

ruddynorah · 26/03/2010 22:14

all things in moderation i say. no mooncups or co-sleeping here. but i do do blw, slings, alfie kohn, and have all those books you mentioned

(i think amazon told me to buy our babies ourselves though )

ruddynorah · 26/03/2010 22:15

oh, and i do curly girl method and oil cleansing too

LynetteScavo · 26/03/2010 22:16

I too bought a mooncup...it was on sale in Boots.

I don't even have periods that warrant "protection".

But it made me feel more of a proper mumsnetter.

scottishmummy · 26/03/2010 22:18

i dont feel aligned to a mn ethos, dont think their is a mn ethos as such.but certain threads attract certain tampon knitters.and i dont feel aligned to that at all

on other hand i like the riposte and quirky threads

PatTheHammer · 26/03/2010 22:18

Butterpie- You are not going to be introducing food via your mooncup I trust........

paisleyleaf · 26/03/2010 22:23

at introducing food with a mooncup.

BitOfFun · 26/03/2010 22:23

I have tried oil cleansing and curly girl...the MN haircut is a step too far, I feel.

scottishmummy · 26/03/2010 22:25

what was oil cleansing and the curly girl?

randomrabbit · 26/03/2010 22:26

Can you knit your own mooncup? can you blw with greggs?

stottiecake · 26/03/2010 22:26

I found 'our babies...' on ebay by accident - what do you think of it RuddyNorah?

No mooncup or real nappies here.

Bought a sling but ds won't entertain it.

Not sure about Steves book either. But I have it!!

Words on a screen were all I had for the first 6 months of ds's life.We lived away from home and dh was out 12 hours a day and I sat on the sofa bf-ing a lot of the time!

Am defo drawing line at mooncup!

Butterpie my dh is from the NE and calls ds stottiecake (I don't know what one is!!)

I know I don't need to do what people on here say but a lot of stuff made sense to me when I got stuck!

what is a curly girl?
Oil cleansing??

OP posts:
stottiecake · 26/03/2010 22:30

oh is it when you don't wash your hair?

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 26/03/2010 22:33

Curly girl is abandoning Frizzease and shampoo, and just washing curly hair with cheap silicone-free conditioner so the hair springs up and is moisturised without products.

Oil cleansing is a cheap way to deep-cleanse skin and not have to bother with moisturisers.

Are we seeing a theme here?

ruddynorah · 26/03/2010 22:34

i liked 'our babies' so much i went and got the sequel it's called 'kids'

i'm going to try the toxic childhood ones next..

curly girl is basically managing curly hair to make the most of your curls rather than battling against them.

oil cleansing is washing your face with oil rather than stripping the natural oils away with detergents, leaves you with gorgeous skin and no oil!

randomrabbit · 26/03/2010 22:34

do you change your sheets every night? do you iron your pants? if you don't you best fuck right off ...
