To hope Moben kitchens go bankrupt?

Obviously only after they have sorted out all the atrocious kitchens they have fitted thus far. If you are considering using them then for the love of God....DON'T. Just Google Moben and see details of the trail of misery they have caused. SPREAD THE WORD

we had quotes from Moben and Kitchens Direct when we were having our kitchen done last year. It was a totally bizarre experience - moben salesman, it must have been his first day and he was here for nearly 4 hours drawing it! the kitchens direct guy was typical hard sell salesman. in the end our builder installed a kitchen from Magnet Trade which is good quality. I also have heard good things about Howdens.

shakingmyfattybumbum · 27/03/2010 20:01

Sounds like MobenKitchens has run away in fear!!

vidia · 27/03/2010 20:07

I also have had the misfortune of having a Dolphin bathroom. The fitters were very nice guys, they told me that they only do work for Dolphin when they are short of self generated work. They do a good job for a Dolphin customer and then get months of work based on recommendations from that. Anyway, I was lucky to get allocated these blokes (having had a month's delay from the original fitting date!) and they told me that the majority of Dolphin's customers were elderely and had been conned into paying ridiculous prices.

mobenkitchen · 28/03/2010 10:54

Sheas I'm Susan the MD of Moben Kitchens. We do care about our customers. We have let you down and I would like to find out more so that we can put it right. Please give me the opportunity to do this by emailing me direct at [email protected]. Thank you.

Alouiseg · 28/03/2010 11:02

I had Dolphin over for a quote, the twat on the phone had the cheek to ask if my dh would be here? As if i can't make a decision on my own!!!! Anyway shite dolphin called in and gave me a quote of £15k for an en suite!!!! I told him where he could shove it so he started back tracking horribly and finding discounts. I hate the sales patter and i wish them nothing but bad luck.

Also got quoted 4k for a wooden front door from Anglian Home Improvements once!!!!!!!! Eventually I complained to them so much they gave up their twice weekly sales phone calls.

venusonarockbun · 28/03/2010 11:12

Are there any kitchen, window or bathroom companies that will just come out, give you a price (a proper price); not some ridiculous over inflated figure plucked out of thin air in the hope that someone will accept? And then leave you alone for a couple of days to mull it over; instead of taking over your house for hours on end until you sign something there and then? I really need my kitchen doing but have been putting of because I really cannot be arsed with all this salesman shoite.

gorgeousgirl · 28/03/2010 11:21

B and Q were good for us. - as long as yoou are happy with B and Q kitchens/ bathrooms! Fab service and price

shakingmyfattybumbum · 28/03/2010 11:26

Best recommendation I have had is to get an Ikea kitchen then get a good local fitter to put it in for you.

By the way, re Kitchens Direct, it has amused me that ever since we bought a kitchen off them, they have rung about once every two months asking us if we want to buy a kitchen from them.

GoldenGreen · 28/03/2010 11:30

fattybumbum - KD kept calling and calling us and every time I would tell them that we have got a new kitchen & don't need another - in the end I discovered that if you go on their website there is a form to fill in and submit and it takes you off their list. Was annoyed that none of the call centre agents ever told me this but perhaps they didn't know themselves.

Actually, I quite enjoy them ringing; it gives me a chance to tell them what I think of their company!

ImSoNotTelling · 28/03/2010 11:58

Ikea is good plan.
Wickes? I have been told their kitchens are v good value and pretty decent
Mum just had a john lewis kitchen, she found them to be very good
try local kitchen companies ie small ones rather than the chains

AccioPinotGrigio · 28/03/2010 12:16

I love mumsnet. Only here would you get the MD of Moben posting on a thread. Susan, what's your regular mumsnet name . You don't have to answer that btw.

Good luck resolving your problems sheas.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 28/03/2010 12:39

Howdens are good, you have to go through a builder as they only do trade, but they are good value.

bernadetteoflourdes · 28/03/2010 13:25

YADNBU I hope so too

smackapacka · 28/03/2010 14:45

I had a new lady from KD come out and measure for us - she was here for 4 hours. It was awful. She measured incorrectly. Ie measured 120cm then wrote down 1020mm. didn't like it when I tried to explain she was wrong.

In the end I bought a kitchen from Wickes and got a local builder to install it. Good quality from Wickes. Oh and we had a nice lady in from Howdens too, good quality drawings etc.

I think Moben and KD are part of MKD Holdings and there are horror stories all over t'internet about them. Awful company.

Oh and we got the 'original price', then the 'sale price', then 'the discounted price'... it's thousands of pounds different. So unethical!

Indaba · 28/03/2010 16:36

Kitchens Direct said they would only come and see me if my husband would be with me. On principle I wouldn't see them and told them to p**s off. Wonder if they would have said that if my husband had phoned.....bet not!

Alouiseg · 28/03/2010 16:55

I had that Indaba with Dolphin bathrooms. I phoned to complain about it! I was furious and pointed out that if he had a day off he wouldn't waste it looking at pretty pics of bathrooms, he had to be at work to pay for the bloody thing!

I want the Moben lady back on to tell us why they do that!

Indaba · 28/03/2010 17:04

According to bloke I spoke to its because they have too many time wasters who get quotes then other partner (ie hubby) says no. By this stage I decided I didn't want to deal with them but my mate who lives in Balham, SW London was outraged as her husband works overseas and they point blank refused to come and see her on her own.

Alouiseg · 28/03/2010 17:12

It's because their prices are so high! I cannot be arsed to sit through sales patter, it's insulting so therefore i only deal with nice local workmen who come and give a quote and then i get a couple more quotes and make the decision. I'd love Moben/Dolphin/KD to end up on watchdog.

In fact i'd be glad to help with the set up to scam the bastards.

DelsParadiseWife · 28/03/2010 17:15

We got an invitation to purchase a £36k bathroom for £16k by Dolphins. Just in and out. No tiling, no moving the things around. Bog standard. He spent AGES with us, and sat on his calculator for a life time tapping away.

That quote was only available if we ordered that day, which made me giggle. He was already annoyed because I wouldn't get excited about choice of tiles around the bath and said simply 'just the cheapest'. Don't think I was his type of customer.

DH picked some tiles but he was very insistant that I looked through the catalogue too so I did and he looked at me and said 'what can I do to get some excitement out of you?', and I thought, but didn't say 'give me a decent price'.

We were expecting £5-7k but this dropped dramatically when I realised how much we weren't going to get, - so £16k was a very funny price indeed.

However, we were both extremely annoyed about having our valuable time stolen by this idiot!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 28/03/2010 17:22

Just to put their extortinate prices into context, we got a builder in 3 years ago to redo our 3 B&B bathrooms, we supplied baths, loos, sinks, showers, showers screens, tiles he supploed all labour it was £10k for all three with everything.

We had our kitchen done this winter and that was just under £12k, with kitchen plus range cooker, hob, sink and wine cooler supplied by Howdens and then tilers, concrete work surfaces and kitchen fitters and it is a big kitchen.

Alouiseg · 28/03/2010 17:25

Come on Moben Lady, give us some public answers, we've asked some public questions!

Or can you only do 1 to 1? Did you train in the sales department first?

This thread will run and run, then the press will get to it so be reasonable love and talk to us all.......on this thread.

venusonarockbun · 28/03/2010 17:30

Why the bloody ridiculous prices at first - then the pathetic mobile calls to their 'boss' who then agrees to a substantial discount. I have had my share of these comedians in the past (usually regarding windows in previous houses).

everybodylovesflumps · 28/03/2010 17:34

Hhmmm, you're all very ready to believe that this is the MD of Moben on here. If you look at their website, the email address of the MD is very easily found, and what are the chances really of the MD being on MN the same day a thread about it appears?
