been signed off from work for 2 weeks due to 'Migraines'?

OP posts:
lorelilee · 25/03/2010 13:22

or even 'suspicious'

OP posts:
SPBInDisguise · 25/03/2010 13:22

yes

ToccataAndFudge · 25/03/2010 13:23

why would you be suspicious?

mumblechum · 25/03/2010 13:23

My ex secretary used to take off one week a month with PMT related migraines, rather than take medication because she didn't agree with taking drugs .

Hence she's my ex secretary.

SusieCarmichael · 25/03/2010 13:23

migraines can be really bad, my mum gets them terribly

what are you actually suspicious of?

lorelilee · 25/03/2010 13:25

the fact that any doctor would sign someone off for that long for that reason. Has anyone ever had a migraine that lasted 2 weeks?

OP posts:
Iklboo · 25/03/2010 13:25

They could be going somewhere to get treatment/trigger diagnosis/therapy?

ShinyAndNew · 25/03/2010 13:25

I've had a migraine once. Thank god it was only once. I thought I was going to die, the pain was unbearable. I spent the day in tears rocking in a darkened room.

Why would you be suspicious?

ToccataAndFudge · 25/03/2010 13:26

have they said it was for one migraine, perhaps they suffer from the regularly - for a reason as yet uknown?

LetThereBeRock · 25/03/2010 13:29

It wouldn't be a migraine lasting 2 weeks. It'd be a series of migraines or perhaps cluster headaches.

I see no reason to be suspicious.

SPBInDisguise · 25/03/2010 13:29

so you think the note is forged?

lorelilee · 25/03/2010 13:31

more that I think she was swinging the lead and managed to convince a doctor. As far as I know, if the 'migraines' were genuine, she'd have to be signed off for ever as they come and go over a period of time.

OP posts:
BooyhooNOTboohoooORbooyou · 25/03/2010 13:33

i wouldn't be suspicious at all.
migraines can be quite debilitating and if someone was suffereing from recurring migraines then, yes, it would be quite reasonable for the GP to sign them off work for two weeks.

Iklboo · 25/03/2010 13:33

What's your absence policy at work? Even if I'm covered by a sicknote it's still count towards my absences and if they went over the limit there'd be a meeting with HR to discuss it.

BooyhooNOTboohoooORbooyou · 25/03/2010 13:34

suffering

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 25/03/2010 13:36

I have been having them (or one super one) for about a week now. Alot of days I haven't been able to take DS to nursery and one day was horrific - I was walking into posts and all sorts my vision had gone so distorted. Yesterday they made me throw up - I think 2 weeks sounds 'reasonable'.

I just been off for two weeks with miagrane.. well it started off with a thunderclap headache.. which I ended up in A&E with as they thought I'd has an anurisim. I had an LP which leaked causing an almighty headache which I couldn't stand or even sit up without being sick. Was in hospital for 5 days then signed off for two weeks I still have a headace but have been back at work for 3 weeks..
(i'm never off sick!)

I would not be suspicious at all. I have suffered all my life with debilitating migraines and have always been concerned about how my employers had viewed this - to the extent that I would try very hard to hide it (ie. for a short absence would say I had the flu instead, etc.). Chronic (recurrent) migraine or cluster headaches could happen and last that long. I was hospitalized after 11 days about ten years ago. Please give the person the benefit of the doubt, they may be more upset than you are about having to miss work.

wonka · 25/03/2010 13:42

Sorry the reason I posted all that was all it says on my GP note is miagraine.. YABU

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/03/2010 13:42

YABU.

And what is it to you anyway? Unless she is your employee then her sickness is no business of yours.

Way too little info here.

YABU if it is a person who is normally not prone to taking sickies and has a sick note from the doctor saying that. In fact YAB a cow as well as U.

YANBU if it is someone who is just phoning in saying they have a migraine and they have a history of pulling sickies.

So in conclusion, I have no idea
