I suffer from migraines. They are always on the right side of my brain and it is so painful that I can't even lay on that side. They hang about for roughly 3 days, the first is the worse as it comes on like I've run headfirst into a brick wall and I go blind for a few hours. The second day I'm just in complete pain and any noise feels like a jack-hammer in my head. The third day it feels like a normal headache. They usually come on when I'm experiencing a lot of stress but there have been times when they just come on. I've not had one since giving birth 15 months funnily but for the past 6 months I've been having light flashes. Its like someone keeps flashing a torch in the corner of my eyes. I thought the worse but the doctor reckons, die to my history, that they are migraine flashes.

I think you need to assess what this employees history is. I know you should trust people but some use an ailment to get a quick holiday and quite frankly its pretty easy to get a doctor's note.
