Do you have any Me time, and what do you do with it?

I had a lovely afternoon bath the other day. Bubbles. Music. lots of soaking and relaxing. Only to then get up like a crazed maniac on a mission to get my clothes on, dry my hair and get ds back from the nursery. ahhh.... almost

I catch public transport to work and back. That's my time. I can read a book for 40 whole minutes in a row!

2rebecca · 23/03/2010 23:50

I always close or when I had toddlers lock the bathroom door if having a relaxing bath though and kids awake, but would only do so if bloke around to keep them out of my hair, put them on potty in kitchen if they can't wait til I've finished etc. I hate being interrupted in the bath and don't get these women who never lock the bathroom door.
I do feel a long bath is a luxury not necessity though.

i sleep? thats me time?

Fibilou · 24/03/2010 11:04

"Me time" ? That is about as alien a concept as "don't bother with the housework, just look after the baby"

Having said that I do manage to go out by myself for a coffee once a week - for about half an hour

Bumperlicious · 24/03/2010 11:38

My DH likes 'me-time' too. We both share care of DD part time and work part time. We also both really value our space, but then we did even before DD came along and sometimes needed 'me-time' away from each other.

There's nothing wrong with it, no need to get sniffy about it, doesn't makes us any worse as parents, we just happen to be of the type of personality that values our own space, which is in short supply with a toddler. Great if you are not bothered by it but don't act like those of us who are a 'risible' or somehow bad parents. I don't see what's not to 'get' just because you don't need it.

Rockbird · 24/03/2010 12:00

Well said Bumperlicious. People who say they don't do me time but go out for a coffee once a week (not picking on you Fibilou, you were just a handy example ) are doing exactly the same thing, just without the label.

FWIW I don't refer to it as me time either but it's a handy catch-all if you want to call it something.

I have had one bath this year

Every evening once DP is home and everyone is fed, the DDs have crazy Daddy playtime and I go upstairs and have a shower. It's in the en-suite and from the shower you can watch the TV in the bedroom so I put the subtitles on and watch Emmerdale whilst under the shower, I don't rush either. I wouldn't call it me time just that I need a wash.

I do go for a nap on the weekend sometimes when DD3 goes, but I am pregnant and knackered.

As for that me time is the time spent MNing and messing about on the pc at night once the DDs are in bed.

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/03/2010 12:42

I like spending time alone.

Either reading a book, having a long bath (also with a book) or just sitting somewhere and thinking.

I would rather spend time on my own in the quiet than an evening out tbh.

Don't get a lot of me time - working FT, dd, DP, housework, family, when I do get the chance to have an hour to myself I jump at it.

I have always loved spending time alone.

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/03/2010 12:43

Anyway what are we all banging on about? We are all on MN at the mo. Aint that classed as me time?

BadGardener · 24/03/2010 12:46

not if you're bf the baby and supervising the toddler and cooking the lunch at the same time Getorf. And you keep getting interrupted.

MinnieMalone · 24/03/2010 12:52

Sorry, what is the point/purpose of the OP? I don't understand? Clarification, please.

Rockbird · 24/03/2010 12:54

I'm at work GetOrf. I'm really really busy doing high level stuff...

AliGrylls · 24/03/2010 13:10

I have only started having me time every day when DS goes to sleep at lunch for a couple of hours.

I have a question though about me time. Every saturday morning I have a clarinet lesson. Over the past month I have taken a couple of bookings for gigs in the future. I am doing them on a voluntary basis, to get experience, but I hope it will lead to paid work eventually. Would you consider this "me" time? DH says it is.

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/03/2010 14:36

Lol at Rockbird. I am at work as well, funnily enough.

OprahWinfrey · 24/03/2010 22:55

@ rockbird. p.s. I'm going to have another soak. Or me time - whatever
