She was up at 6:30am this morning, had one 2hr nap between 9-11am and hasn't slept properly since. She would usually have 30mins-1hr in the afternoon but skipped it today even though we were out in the buggy which usually sends her off.

She has been lying on the floor while we've been playing, rubbing eyes, yawning, classic tired baby stuff, she also fell asleep in the highchair in the 4 mins it took me to get her dinner, I've changed her into jammies and we're watching ITNG together then I'm going to give her some milk and put her to bed. She would usually go to bed at 6:30pm.

As I'm writing it sound more and more logical but what do you think?

its fine, not unreasonable at all. they wont suffer for 1 day without a bath
as long as u think she will sleep fine without it (she prob will as she is so tired) then go for it. and its only half an hour earlier, so not a big deal imo

groundhogs · 22/03/2010 17:49

go for it!

I used to treat DS sleep as a kind of Bank balance, if he woke up early, or went to bed late, then I'd compensate at the next possible opportunity... Just as we would do ourselves given the opportunity....

Better to try and get her down on time or slightly early than to risk her going into over-tired....

Enjoy your evening MNing!!

MamaG · 22/03/2010 17:49

Are you SERIOUS?

nowwearefour · 22/03/2010 17:51

i am assuming this is a joke, right? i think it is BEST for kids not to have a bath every day anyway.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 22/03/2010 17:51

But I thought babies spontaneously combusted if not bathed every single night?!
She'll be fine. Honest.

glastocat · 22/03/2010 17:51

Its a bath FFS. What do you think is going to happen if she doesnt have one?

belgo · 22/03/2010 17:54

It's not just the bath she'll be missing...she'll be going to bed 30 minutes earlier ...which means she'll be up and raring to go an hour earlier tomorrow morning

5DollarShake · 22/03/2010 17:54

I think she will survive!

Narabug · 22/03/2010 17:58

Yep serious I'm afraid, I have a serious case of first-time-mum symdrome and I'm honest enough to admit it, just seeking a little confirmation that I was not, in fact, losing the plot.

Oh, and thanks for the heads-up, AmazingBouncingFerret, I'll just go check the battery in my smoke alarm

I dont bath mine every night now but when my first was little I batehd her EVERY night without fail, including the whole baby massage bit...I gave up after number two and three came along, now they get bathed when I cant hide the dirt any longer.

StuffedFullOfNothing · 22/03/2010 18:08

I've just put mine to bed without a bath so let's be bad mums together!

MadameOvary · 22/03/2010 18:08

I think its quite sweet.
Better than "AIBU to only bathe my kids once a fortnight?"

Wanderingsheep · 22/03/2010 18:16

NOT give her a bath

I was just thinking about the same thing with my own DD and probably won't give her a bath tonight as i can't be bothered she had one last night and hasn't being playing in mud or anything, so she'll be ok.

My DD is 2.9 so probably stinks worse than your DD .

CoupleofKooks · 22/03/2010 18:17

LOL mine have a bath once a week
they don't smell nasty - well not usually

Alambil · 22/03/2010 18:18

DS only gets 2 baths a week since forever... he's fine!

He goes to bed sometimes at 6 30 even now and he's approaching 8yrs old.

6pm for him was his usual time for bed..... she'll be fine and may benefit for the extra rest

maduggar · 22/03/2010 18:52

My first - bathed every single night

My second - bathed a few times a week

My third - when he is too dirty for a "wipe job"

mumofaboy · 22/03/2010 18:54

Blimey DS only has a bath about once a week. .

She'll be fine!

Doodleydoo · 22/03/2010 19:07

Mine has never had a daily bath, and goes to bed at random times within the hour depending on how tired she looks. Don't stressy about it, would be a different story if caked in poo and wiping it across face.....

LittleSilver · 22/03/2010 19:39

Are you serious?

TheSteelFairy2 · 22/03/2010 19:41

It definitely tails off the more you have.

Ds was bathed without fail every night.

Now have dd to and standards have slipped to every other night.

They do go to bed at the same time every night though, however with ds I had his routine so that he went to bed at around 11.00 pm, he would sleep 12 hours until 11.00 am the next morning so I could get a big old lie in . He did have a "routine" but it was just set differently.

Turniphead1 · 22/03/2010 19:42

search under "baths" on MN and you will find the full gamut of opinions on nightly, weekly etc bathing!!

Frankly, you baby was tired. Putting her to bed 12 hours after she first got up is completely fine. And I am sure she will survive without a bath. Put your feet up - you deserve it

BertieBotts · 22/03/2010 19:43

I have in the past put DS to bed fully clothed and snuck in when he is deeply asleep to change his nappy because he was so tired I didn't get chance to do it before I put him to bed.

Also DS used to majorly hate baths so I only bathed him about once a week. If they have stuff on their face/hands etc it all actually sweats off at night. Usually manage to get a wipe in with a flannel before bed though!

Chica31 · 22/03/2010 19:52

I know how you feel. My DD is 10 months today, and I still like to bath her every night and do the whole massage thing. We really enjoy it. Last night i was just like you, our boiler has broken and we have no hot water. The boiler is still broken today, grr, so i bathed her in her baby bath on the kitchen table, I couldn't cope with two days in a row, she really might explode or something then. (grin) DD is our first child too.

Triggles · 22/03/2010 20:02

Our 7 month old DS and 3yo DS only get baths twice a week, unless an unfortunate mud incident crops up! They both have eczema, and daily bathing makes it worse.

DD didn't have eczema and only had baths twice a week when small as well, though. No excuse there, except we just didn't think it was needed.
