when you are in a relationship (but not married)

OP posts:
MrsC2010 · 22/03/2010 16:48

Meant to say it would be the same for him. There is no way in a million years that I would do more than a peck on the cheek with anyone other than my husband.

AnyFucker · 22/03/2010 16:52

oh heck, I have put my foot in it < slinks away >

MorrisZapp · 22/03/2010 16:54

Fair play AF and I'm sure many agree.

I'm still a bit iffy about the whole early relationship thing though. If I was 'dating' a guy (god I hate that expression) and I saw him one night out smooching somebody else I'd assume it was over between us, even in relatively early days. I wouldn't want to see him again.

I have a friend who does match.com and 'dates' all the time, the rules seem to be that you can date and shag who you like until you've had some god-awful, toe curling Americanised conversation about 'going exclusive'.

This didn't exist in my day. You were with a guy or you weren't.

overmydeadbody · 22/03/2010 16:55

Depends, like anything you do in a relationship if you could happily tell your partner what you did, and they would be fine with it, then it's ok. But if you lie, decieve, omit the truth and /or hurt your partner by doing it or telling them afterwards, then you shouldn't do it.

Tortington · 22/03/2010 16:56

i agree, maybe my way of thinking isn't enlightened or 'modern', but even in early days i wouldnt go round kissing willy nilly

ShadeofViolet · 22/03/2010 16:56

Agree with OMDB.

overmydeadbody · 22/03/2010 16:56

I agree with AF too

Tortington · 22/03/2010 17:00

this thread illustrates perfectly the need for a 'vote' button

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/03/2010 17:05

I would be pissed off and upset if DP kissed anyone else.

I would not kiss anyone else either.

Mind you I have always been pretty monogamous - once I started seeing someone all snogs with other blokes would be off.

Could never be someone who just goes round kissing people willy nilly. I would be very confused at today's dating rules. God help me if I end up single again and have to get out there and deal with all that crap.

MorrisZapp · 22/03/2010 17:06

I vote for kissing willy.

AnyFucker · 22/03/2010 17:10

sorry, mz

I worded it really badly and was using my own relationship as an example (in the abscence of any real info from the OP...grr)

DH and I were on/off at the beginning (he fucked off around the world, for example )...what's a girl to do ?

I actually wasn't making judgements about long-term live-in relationships, although it did come across that way

LadyOfTheFlowers · 22/03/2010 17:12

Have been married for 5 years and together for 9.

Would be mortified and gutted if DH kissed anyone else in a snoggy/sexy kind of way and I wouldn't either.

MorrisZapp · 22/03/2010 17:15

No need to explain twice AF. I totally get ya. On/ off is another thing entirely.

But I did think the lady on One Born Every Minute took it too far

thesunshinesbrightly · 22/03/2010 17:40

I wouldnt kiss anyone else but my partner and i would be upset if he kissed someone else.

HerBeatitude · 22/03/2010 17:41

Hmmm... I think if kissing doesn't mean that much, prostitutes wouldn't eschew it.

Sassybeast · 22/03/2010 17:47

Willy has terribly bad breath.

AnyFucker · 22/03/2010 17:49

eschew

word of the day

HerBeatitude · 22/03/2010 17:52

LOL am rather pleased to have worked it in to a thread about kissing...

BitOfFun · 22/03/2010 18:07

Do prostitutes really not do it? I thought that was a Pretty Woman myth.

BritFish · 22/03/2010 18:15

eschew.
oh my god, im going to have to work that into a real life conversation now!
[Britfish ambles off to confuse someone]

maybe some prostitutes do it, some dont?
gotta warm up i suppose!

JaneS · 22/03/2010 18:16

Darn, where are the resident MN prostitutes when you need them?

What did the woman on One Born Every Minute do? I can't get onto 4od at the moment so I missed the last one.

BritFish · 22/03/2010 18:20

oh, the woman on the One Born Every Minute
had been having an on/off relationship with her [seemingly quite lovely, if a bit overwhelmed] chap, and she'd got pregnant with another man's baby on one of their 'off' moments.
good on him for wanting to raise the baby! he was ever so shocked when she was taken in for an emergency csection.
thats a far as i got, im assuming the baby was okay, i hope!

AnyFucker · 22/03/2010 18:21

oo-er

in our off moments it was a sneaky snog

not a full-on conception situation

JaneS · 22/03/2010 18:25

Yeah, that would be a leeetle beyond the pale!

BritFish · 22/03/2010 18:31

i did laugh a bit actually.
im bad.
