DD, nearly 5, has come home with a muddled story of Jesus on a cross thing for Easter. The school seem to present this along with the alphabet as a FACT.

AIBU to muddle her up with Monty Python quotes and send her back to school singing 'always look on the bright side of life'

(No offence intended to those that choose to believe in any Religon or to the Bible as a collection of stories and parables)

what sort of school is DD at OP ?
i agree with the "that is what some people believe, but i don't" type.
ds1 is at a catholic school so comes home with the most beautiful ethos. so loving. he even says "i am a catholic and i am proud of that." only 6 !!
does every school present it as FACT then ?
do some people complain about this ? are you planing on asking for her to be excused from these 'Re lessons' or where they are taught this as FACT ?

Life of Brian , one of my fave films EVER.

LetThereBeRock · 26/03/2010 16:16

Nonsense DP. The Life Of Brian is genius, always has been and always will be and I'm no 'middle class drip'.

Kaloki · 26/03/2010 16:49

I like that, am saving that for future use!

Although IMO Life of Brian was a bit meh, Holy Grail was far better.

No Life Of Brian was better, though I love The Holy Grail too.

I may be going to see Spamalot in the summer.

daftpunk · 26/03/2010 17:05

Nope..Life of Brian deffo not that funny..

"biggus dickus"..

Come on... that's the sort of thing 8 yr olds would find funny...

FiveOrangePips · 26/03/2010 17:19

dd who is 8 loves Life of Brian, her and dh regularly quote it, in fact dh quoting LoB is a guaranteed way to make me laugh, it is almost better than watching it sometimes.

YANBU

SirBoobAlot · 26/03/2010 17:21

Biggus Dickus... Te he he...

Kaloki · 26/03/2010 17:25

LTBR - Spamalot is amazing! Though I had some silly cow sat behind me saying the jokes from the film word for word, then whinging when people laughed at new jokes. God knows why she didn't just stay at home with the DVD?!

bobdog · 26/03/2010 18:07

DD is in reception at local state (non religious) primary, we're in North Cornwall so the ethic mix is very local although some folk are from Devon .

I'm new to having children at school so I naively figured that school assembely in state education would be pretty similar to my own (state ,very multicultural, 70s/80s) lots of fables, stories, lip service to daily act of worship.

Takver · 26/03/2010 19:34

YAsooNBU to teach them 'he's a very naughty boy' - surely its a part of their cultural heritage

I used to be outraged at the praying twice a day/bible stories are true stuff, but as dd has got a little older (say yr 1 and up) I found them actually to be quite good prompting to discuss religion & faith with her.

One thing that I thought was important that AFAIK is not discussed in school was to explain the chronology of the gospels, the fact that they were not written as and when the events happen, but many years later, and that they are in parts quite different, at least in emphasis.

And also to discuss the fact that even with Christianity (leaving aside other religions), there is a whole range of beliefs - from the absolute truth of the bible word by word downwards, so to speak.

SirBoobAlot · 26/03/2010 19:42

Oblomov That made me LOL - thank you, have had such a rubbish day!!

seeker · 26/03/2010 23:24

I am a middle class drip, so I suppose it's not surprising that I find "Biggus Dicus" and "Blessed are the Cheesemakers" chest-achingly funny is only to be expected.
