Today dh and I returned a pushchair to mothercare at 10 am and when getting out released it did not open until 11am (retail park) so with having ds1 & carrying ds2 and the pushchair box and foot muff box, to put back in the car, dh left my purse at the top of the car, and with strapping ds2 and me strapping ds1 into their seats and boxes back in the boot dh accidentally/forgot my purse, which was still on top of the car roof and drove off .

So got to the Metrocentre and realised 20 Min's later and drove back to mothercare, to check the car park.

Unfortunately for us, someone had already found my purse and it was not handed into any of the shops and has not been handed into a any police station

I would not be bothered if it was only my purse, but it has my children's photos and my only photo of my Dad , £150 and bank cards etc...

Im so disappointed tbh, and dh is fuming at himself. Its our own fault I know, but I know if I found a purse I would contact banks/store cards to pass my number on so the correct owner would get it etc...

Grrrr......

Horrible thing to happen but "todays" society is no more dishonest than previously.

TheMumtalist · 21/03/2010 19:50

Some people are so horrible

LittleMrsHappy · 21/03/2010 19:52

Yes Rainbow

Just our reckoning it that, as the shops did not open until 11am, they must have seen us return ans seen how distressed I was .

If I'd have found it I would have handed it in to police. I believe in Karma! Let's hope the person who found it get's their comeuppance.

dizzydixies · 21/03/2010 19:54

feckers but working where I do there are a LOT of honest people out there too - please don't be disheartened, it was a crap thing to happen and you were very unlucky

HellBent · 21/03/2010 19:54

I'm mixed about this actually, I once dropped a credit card (before chip and pin) and had a phone call at work from the police saying it had been handed in before I even realised I had lost it!

But I have had my purse stolen from the hood of the buggy, stupid place to leave it, when a woman leant over it and said how cute DS was in the queue paying for something, realised I didn't have it and woman was long gone.

It was unfortunate but yours might still be handed in

rainbowinthesky · 21/03/2010 19:55

They probably didnt care, littlemisshappy. Wouldnt have taken it if they did.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 21/03/2010 19:55

Awful thing to happen, but it doesn't prove a dishonest society.

I did exactly the same with my car keys once. (DH was driving, I put my keys on top of the car). Some nice person handed them in at the local police station.

I don't expect they did see how distressed you were as I expect they left as soon as they had your purse.

Have you cancelled your cards?

LittleMrsHappy · 21/03/2010 20:00

Unfortunately No verity, We found the mothercare receipt in the car park (pushchair receipt) and the purse was long gone, (receipt was under the purse

You never know, it might still turn up. My gran lost her bus pass once and someone had posted it back to her, so it turned up a few days later.

I am actually regularly surprised at how honest many people are. I once left my purse in the library and didn't notice until the next day. I went back and asked if it had been handed in (not really expecting that it would have been) but they just produced it from under the counter and it was fully intact, including the cash (only £10 or so).

Your purse may well have fallen off somewhere other than the car park, as someone has just said. Was there anything inside with your address on it e.g. driving licence or something?

SPBInDisguise · 21/03/2010 20:04

oh LMH
I have recently been tannoyed in Tesco though as I'd left my purse in the car park (didn;t realise until then) so there are honest people about.

roxanne08 · 21/03/2010 20:04

DP lost his wallet last week it had his provisional lisence in and £70, hes driving test is in 4 weeks! We checked every where he'd been i was even looking in bins to see if someone had took the money and threw the wallet but no.

But the next day i was in sainsburys i was short of a £1 something at the till i was about to cry i was so pissed off and upset but then a nice lady behind gave me cashier the money, it restored my faith and made my day.

Aussieng · 21/03/2010 20:06

Ah MrsH that's awful. I did the same thing once but managed to drive the car about 0.25 miles before it finally flew off going round a roundabout and landing in a hedgerow. It may not have come off the car where you think it did. I was very lucky - someone handed it in to Blockbuster video as I had a membership card in there and they called me. Hope you have a happy ending.

I also remember losing a purse when I was about 10 with £100 in it being pocket money I had saved up to go on holiday with which I had just withdrawn from my bank. The purse was handed in at the police station minus £10 which I thought was fair enough. My dad got the name of the person who handed the purse in and bought them flowers and chocolates and made me knock on their door to say thank you and give them the flowers chocs. I was happy to do this as I'd got £90 back so I was happy but my dad (who would have got them the flowers and chocs anyway) was equally wanting to show the person that they had taken £10 from a child although they probably thought I was a spoilt brat with £100 in my purse!

muggglewump · 21/03/2010 20:08

It's an awful thing to happen, but YABU to think it's something to do with today's society.
People have always been dishonest.

I'd love to live in the ideal world you think existed when people handed in everything they found.
When was that?

Aussieng · 21/03/2010 20:08

Ah - x-posted with yours re the receipt. Bummer

spongebrainbigpants · 21/03/2010 20:09

I once found a handbag on the tube that had £400 cash in it - I can't lie, I was hugely tempted to nick it but I handed it in and the lady sent me a lovely note of thanks.

Not everyone is dishonest .

Sorry about your purse though .

LittleMrsHappy · 21/03/2010 20:09

We know it didn't fall anywhere else as security cameras were on the main roads, so when they looked on the 1st main road it was not on top of dh car.

Cards were cancelled straight away.

Your right I am disappointed and I know honest people are out their, just feeling sorry for myself

But as they say onwards and upwards.

i am honest!!! Was in our local shopping centre car park that also has a huge tesco and noticed the car next to me had left their keys in the door. I wrote a note to say that they would be at tesco customer service desk. Tesco scanned the club card and put out a tannoy for the customer - don't know the outcome but hope they were happy!!

FabIsGettingThere · 21/03/2010 20:12

Years ago someone nicked my filofax out of my bag, obviously thinking it was a purse when they put their hand in. They binned it, someone found it in the bin and posted it back to me. Not all people are bad.

I had my purse nicked in Belgium once and that pissed me off.

CatIsSleepy · 21/03/2010 20:16

i was amazed when I dropped my phone in the park last year and it was actually handed in to the park cafe-there are good people out there

sorry you lost your purse though, it's a bugger to lose cards and especially the more personal stuff

ProzacTheGiggleFairy · 21/03/2010 20:19

I too am a big believer in karma. If I find a purse or wallet etc I will do my best to hand it in somewhere.

One occasion that I clearly remember was at a cashpoint, a lady in front of me had made her transaction, but after she took her card out, she walked away leaving some notes sticking out. I didn't want to take them out & she didn't respond to me calling her, so my dh went after her while I waited at the machine.

She was very grateful, and all I hope is that someone would do the same for me if I was in that situation.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/03/2010 20:31

DS found a phone and handed it in and it was reunited with it's owner.
