DS (nearly 3) is at a childminder's house two days a week. CM has two young girls under 10 along with the other children she looks after.

Previously DS used to say 'I done a boom boom boom' silly I know and no idea where he got it from. DS now says 'I just done a FART' - I said who says that? - he says one of the CM's daughter says it. It really irritates me - he's not even three. and it's the way he says it as well

I don't think I can stop him saying it now but it really irrtates me.

Is this just something that happens when children are with other children and do I just need to get over it?

all children find farts hilarious, tis a fact! dd used to pffft and giggle way before she could talk! so do you just ignore all farting completely? what if it is a real corker?!!

Tortington · 20/03/2010 16:42

i wouldn't like 'fart' said by a three year old. I think there is a rating system - like cinema and pump or trump is appropriate aged three and fart aged 12

JetSetWilly · 20/03/2010 16:48

oh yes i'm sure he finds it hilarious mayor. he loves bringing attention to it

i don't ignore it - although we don't about it, it goes like this

DS 'mummy i did a boom boom boom'
Me 'did you DS'

of course now it's 'mummy i did a FART' !

I like custardo's rating system - that is a good way to explain it
I know it's nonsensical and I know there's nothing I can do and I know this is how it is when he mixes with other children
but fart from a nearly three year old just seems wrong

ho hum

Fart is not a nice word for a small child but wouldn't mind it from an older one.

Dh says "i've just stood on a duck"

It could be worse though, he could declare a near miss and give himself a mark out of 10

JetSetWilly · 20/03/2010 16:51

although we don't talk about it

oh you will JetSet, you will

perhaps we are just unaturally interested in them in our house. surely not. does nobody talk about farts then?

Scented love puff????? Good lord!

Ds2 is 3 and says trumped. I haven't told him to say anything but I prefer trumped to fart at his age tbh. Older dcs say fart.

MrsC2010 · 20/03/2010 17:06

I hate it too.

As kids we said 'botty winds' or 'windy poos'.

ilovesprouts · 20/03/2010 17:13

we say fart here !! fgs

CheerfulYank · 20/03/2010 17:17

I see what you mean about the age thing. My DS will be 3 this summer and is big on "stupid" and "butt" which don't bother me as such but seem odd coming from him. He calls them "toots", btw!

DH always asks if someone's "playing the trouser tuba..."

ItsGraceAgain · 20/03/2010 17:20

YABU. As someone else said, it's the correct word.

2shoes · 20/03/2010 17:25

yabu and yanbu
I think the word is fine and no worse that all the silly ones used.
but I can understand why you wouldn't want a 3 year old saying it.

OhFuck · 20/03/2010 17:34

I think it's a regional thing. I'm a Scot and would be laughed out of town if I called a fart anything other than a fart. It's not offensive in any way. It's just a factual term.

But DP's family (North of England) are horrified that DS says "fart". Down there it's akin to a swearword.

TBH I'd imagine a child who called it a trump round here would be picked on at school.

thesleepyprincess · 20/03/2010 21:13

My two say 'windy pop'. Or, more recently, 'whizz-bang' after watching the BFG
