DS (nearly 3) is at a childminder's house two days a week. CM has two young girls under 10 along with the other children she looks after.

Previously DS used to say 'I done a boom boom boom' silly I know and no idea where he got it from. DS now says 'I just done a FART' - I said who says that? - he says one of the CM's daughter says it. It really irritates me - he's not even three. and it's the way he says it as well

I don't think I can stop him saying it now but it really irrtates me.

Is this just something that happens when children are with other children and do I just need to get over it?

Shaking..Lol That makes me think of Reggie Perrin correcting his granddaughter.

'It's not 'I done ploopy-pops in my pants'. It's 'I've done ploopy-plops in my pants.''

Sorry now I've lowered the tone even further and showed my age all in one. I'll get my coat.

I don't like fart from children either. Was never allowed to say fart as a child, we said wind, as in 'I did a wind'. I don't like that either so we use trump or tos (arabic) with DS. I prefer tos, or tostos, but it sounds a bit silly when I say it! But then nobody will be offended by it because they won't understand it!

onebadbaby · 20/03/2010 12:45

POOP!

notsoteenagemum · 20/03/2010 12:52

I always said fart if anything Dh is surprisingly offended by 'Fart' despite the fact he and his family happily say/call each other and my DC 'buggar' which I cannot stand.
DD had a book where you could record sounds and the last page said 'Oops I Farted' and he threw it out saying it was unsuitable.

insertexpletive · 20/03/2010 12:56

Well, in our family, we all do 'bottom burps'.

Well, apart from me obviously, nothing offensive ever slips out of my bottom!!

Lol, is it bad that I giggled reading the title of this post because it had the word 'fart' in it?

DD is only 10 months so she's a bit young to worry about what she might come out with, but as a newborn she had, eh-hum, a wind problem, and the nickname 'Evie-trumper' just seemed to fit with her.

A teeny one using the word trump is kinda cute, but would be a bit cringe-worthy if she came out with it at 7-8 yr old (either the word or the emission)

No matter what word we use for it, its all just a load of hot air right?

Narabug · 20/03/2010 13:41

Forgot to say, my friend says that little girls don't fart, or trump, they do 'scented love puffs', which I just LOVE, very twee but I would probably die laughing if DD ever said that to me in public.

At nursery, they call them 'whiffs'

I hate the word and DS (and DH for that) are not allowed to use it, though the word is sometimes cause for hilarity in our little house!

I also childmind and would be mortified if a parent thought that words that like originated here.

a 7 yr old boy started with me about a year ago and i was very smugly pleased when i overheard a slightly older girl whisper to him that they were not allowed to say Fart or OH MY GAWD in my setting. another phrase i detest in a child.

I know that i will never stop DS (now 5.5) from using fart and I don't intend to do so, I just want him to be aware that not everyone thinks that shouting FART FART FART FART FART FART FART is the funniest thing in the whole entire universe.

or is it?

Bucharest · 20/03/2010 14:10

YANBU.
Although I don't like any of the alternatives either. I just don't see why we need to talk about them.

Shodan · 20/03/2010 14:13

Must dmit I don't like hering young children saying fart.

Ds1 used to do a 'burp bottom' (his words not mine).

I like 'parp'. Very Toad.

Hate it! DD2 is 2 and has picked it up from DD1's friend. DD1 had never used it as it's not a term I like and even DH uses euphemisms, despite being quite coarse about other things.

I was mortified last week when my parents said she'd been shouting it all morning.

Sadly I don't think she'll unlearn it.

tethersend · 20/03/2010 14:37

Hmmm.

It depends.

Does your DS ask you to pull his finger immediately prior to opening the ham?

leothelioness · 20/03/2010 14:40

My kids use fart as when we were kids our parents refered to them as 'stink bombs' which is even worse when you actually believe this it a real term as I did at primary school.

sungirltan · 20/03/2010 14:46

i dont mind the term fart. its trump that does my head in. my bf corrects me in front of her kids if i say fart nad says 'no! trump' as if it makes a difference. its not polite to talk about breaking wind either way!

LynetteScavo · 20/03/2010 15:01

Now, I think fart is a fine word, but think trump is just dreadful.

If flatulence is the correct word, do we flatulate?

Would I say "Has someone just flatulated?"?

MayorNaze · 20/03/2010 15:17

oh we fart all the way here. call a spade a spade and all that

JetSetWilly · 20/03/2010 16:09

nooooooooo tethersend there's no pulling fingers in this house!! although my dad used to do that when I was younger and I thought it was hilarious. He also used to say the floorboards were squeaky!

fernie has a point though

can I just say we don't talk about farts - DS is nearly three so he used to say 'mummy i just did a boom boom boom' we don't have conversations about them!

and yes numberfour i'm really surprised that the CM has let this happen because obviously some people aren't bothered but some people are offended by the word - she doesn't know which camp I (and other parents) fall in to

tethersend · 20/03/2010 16:16

Offended by the word fart?

That made me laugh so much I almost shat myself

MayorNaze · 20/03/2010 16:22

how can you have children and not talk about farts? like it or not, we have regular discussions!

PuppyMonkey · 20/03/2010 16:25

I'm not keen on fart. And I hate tits too.

Much prefer trump. My brother always says blurt, which makes me

WherestheDuctTape · 20/03/2010 16:26

Def better than bottom burp!!

JetSetWilly · 20/03/2010 16:29

tethersend ^^ have a look I think you'll find there are lots of people who are offended by the word! (me not included)

mayor ds is 2.7 we don't really have conversations as such yet - especially not farts - what is there to talk about?!
