Namely:

  • People who post nasty comments on threads without reading the whole thread. I mean what is the point?
  • People who post 'Is this all you have to worry about etc' or variation there of.

And yes, I clearly don't have enough to worry about that these things are irrationally annoying me.

OP posts:

Yes, I was just thinking the same thing. We must get out more! It isn't fair on the posters though, ait seems fair to at least make sure that you've read everything they say before going on the attack.

paisleyleaf · 19/03/2010 20:51

These people who post without reading first....have they all got it set up so that they have pages?
I've seen a couple of misunderstandings with new members, that made me think that having the threads set up so that all the posts are on one page should be the default setting.

spiderpig8 · 19/03/2010 20:53

The thing that annoys me is when posters correct other people's spelling, grammar or punctuation. So childish!
Now people are posting corrections to their posts before the spelling m'ams can get to them.I just don't want to waste my time reading them!

Fluffyone · 19/03/2010 23:26

Mine is set up with pages and it doesn't cause me a problem. If it's a long thread and I really want to reply I have a quick scan to make sure it's not already been said. I try not to jump on people from a great and righteous height too often though.

tethersend · 19/03/2010 23:31

Haven't read the whole thread, but you really must get out more...

...Surely you've other things to worry about?

usualsuspect · 19/03/2010 23:34

The grammar and punctuation police get right on my tits ...

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 19/03/2010 23:37

Cow.

I can't beliee you're worried aobut this.

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/03/2010 23:38

Tracey - you could air your grievances here.

I'm fairly sure I know what thread has got your goat today .

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 19/03/2010 23:39

What I love is when the OP comes back and says "yes I was wrong, you have a point" and then other people keep responding to the first post "you're so wrong to do that"

justsue · 19/03/2010 23:39

there was me about to reply and then realised it was a wind up thread

displayuntilbestbefore · 19/03/2010 23:48

I hold my hands up and say that I will pick people up on their spelling or incorrect use of a word but only if they have been really unpleasant or are being totally up their own arse and making outlandish claims about other posters. When that's the case, there is nothing more enjoyable than knocking them down a peg or two by pointing out their ignorance.
I don't do it otherwise as that would be rude, but for people who are so certain they are right about something or who are horrible to other posters on a thread, I see it as sport

justsue · 19/03/2010 23:53

there is me I have had two glasses of wine after a bad day with my dad who has dimentia and actually I dont give a fuck how bout that

usualsuspect · 19/03/2010 23:55

justsue · 19/03/2010 23:57

LadyBiscuit · 19/03/2010 23:58

I agree. Gets on my tits

justsue · 20/03/2010 00:01

me and u both lady xxxx

duchesse · 20/03/2010 00:10

I'm sorry but I really can't see that reading an entire 500+ post thread can possibly be a pre-requisite to posting in response to an OP. Especially if that OP is in AIBU. I think it's perfectly legitimate to answer the OP only. Some of us have lives you know. It takes about an hour to read through 400 posts (I know because I've done it too many a couple of times)

ChippingIn · 20/03/2010 00:31

But duchesse - it's more like a 'conversation' than a Q&A and if you come in at the end of a conversation, how can you know what has been said?

Surely it's better to read a thread you are interested in and post - than to just jump from the question to replying without reading what has happened.

I can kind of understand it when it's a really, really long thread and you don't have the time to read it all, but feel you can make a contribution - but then it's surely polite to say 'Sorry, I haven't read the thread, but in reply to the OP.....'.

It annoys me if the thread is only short and someone hasn't even bothered to read it before storming in with their views.

FleurDelacour · 20/03/2010 04:29

I agree with Chipping.

I know that lots of people are not bothered by spelling but if a title is ungrammatical or has typos it does put me off opening it. However if there are lots of replies I usually can't resist having a look .

mumofaboy · 20/03/2010 07:49

agree with you OP. I came on here with a bit of a whinge once - totally legit but not worth rocking the boat about in RL - I got told I should try having some humility and thinking of others before daring to moan - never mind the fact that about 30 people had already agreed with me . Surely one of the main uses of MN is venting about stuff you can't shout about to anyone else!

Can I add to the list the troll accusations when you post something vaguely controversial....? Not helpful, not nice - if you really think I could be arsed to make something unpleasant up, just hide the thread.

porcamiseria · 20/03/2010 09:43

it really bugs me when people post here and then cant take the heat

I did not realise people were so mean here....
I though cos I am XXX you'd go easy on me....
And flounce off

cmon have they not READ it here before!!!!

god I sound mean....

RedRedWine1980 · 20/03/2010 09:50

I hate when people say 'well I think you are an idiot/twat/cow' in response to somebody's AIBU- hardly a constructive discussion!

RedRedWine1980 · 20/03/2010 09:51

I think some people's idea of 'take the heat' falls under the guise of being downright abusive though- there lies the trouble.

mumofaboy · 20/03/2010 10:08

redredwine, couldn't agree more. I hate it when posters are downright rude/abusive and then excuse it by saying they are just being honest, people should expect it in AIBU etc.
