"Emily thinks some people should try to be nicer."

"John thinks someone is in a mood today and is taking out their problems on him."

"Jane really wants to slap a certain someone."

It makes EVERYONE paranoid to read this kind of status!

toccataI agree- so iritating when people put something like 'I'm soo stressed' or 'Can't believe that perspn has done that to me' then as soon as someone puts a reply like 'what's up?' the reply will be 'Oh can't talk about it on here' wtf???

Attention seeking in the extreme.

YANBU, I think these are statuses are attention seeking and snide. I hate the ones that say "X can't believe it's true!!!!!!!!!" cue lots of replies of "What's happened?" Attention seeking drivel IMHO.

StealthPolarBear · 15/03/2010 12:04

so you're potty training at last are you Eddas?

"SPB has run out of dettol and willpower and so is not even bothering to try"

Eddas · 15/03/2010 12:10

I only have people on my fb that are my friends so I don't agree. As I said I barely get to see my friends, let alone have coffee and a vent so this is the way I choose to do it. Frankly if it's something I would tell her to her face, and did, what's the issue? I'm not being snide or cowardly or pathetic because as I said I would have told her properly how annoyed I was if we'd been in an appropriate place. As it was I let her know that I was annoyed but in as nice a way as possible.

I also vent on mn, is that frowned upon too?

What irritates me more is those people who have a million friends, some of which they don't even know and then use it like this. That is odd. I know people on my friends list who've added some of my friends that they don't even know that's odd.

SPB yes, at last, I mean the poor boy's been distraught that at HIS age he's still in a nappy

I gave up with big boy pants and cleaning up the puddles, and have gone on to pull ups. I didn't agree with them before but they seem to work for ds and I'm not constantly stressing and cleaning!

Docbunches · 15/03/2010 12:16

YANBU. There's a FB group called 'Your Status Makes Me Want To Punch You', which just about sums up all that kind of pathetic rubbish.

The ones I hate the most are 'I have the bestest kids in the world'; my neighbour does this ALL the time. I have another friend who does the cryptic (cowardly) ones; both of these people are heavy FB users, which proves the attention-seeking theory.

Turniphead1 · 15/03/2010 12:22

I agree. I feel there is a lack of dignity in people who write things like "men. Arrragh" - clearly about their partner etc. I know in some way it is hypocritical - by using FB I am clearly at ease with posting SOME stuff about myself onto the worldwideweb (even if I do have high security settings). But there is a line. And posting emotive emails basically directed at one person (but without openly saying their name) crosses that line. I also think it looks immature. Reminds me of the type of girls at school who would shuffle around mournfully eyes cast downwards waiting desparately for someone to ask what was wrong. Pathetic in a 15 year old, totally tragic in the case of a 30 or 40-something parent.

ToccataAndFudge · 15/03/2010 12:23

Eddas - are you sure you're friends that have added your friends that they don't know haven't added them for games or something?

I've got LOADS of friends that never see any of my status updates (unless they're about the game that we play - in which case I do send it to my "game" list)

ToccataAndFudge · 15/03/2010 12:25

nope can't remember - school gates no better for venting "privately" than FB is.............actually worse..........at least on FB people I only add people I want to add and most of them I'll probably never meet.........so it doesn't matter if they're being nosey busy bodies

ToccataAndFudge · 15/03/2010 12:28

and you know what...........have a look at the active conversations page here on MN...................plenty of "cryptic" titles that people have to probe further to find out what it's about............this thread stands out as one of them

Gawd we don't all want to sit there and tell our entire life story in one go.........we'd rather do it in dribs and drabs with a captive audience

ToccataAndFudge · 15/03/2010 12:30

and (yes I'm wittering to myself now)

did you know that you can only do 420 characters in your initial status update.

Sometimes there just isn't space to tell the whole story without it being cryptic.

If you reply to a post on your status you can make it as long as you want

BessieBoots · 15/03/2010 12:48

Um, sorry about the thread title Toccata... Am I a tease then?

I'm not that arsed about mysterious ones, just ones that refer to "someone" in a negative way. It did kind of happen on here last week, didn't it- wasn't there a thread where someone was complaining about another MNer's posting style? Not shit-stirring, by the way, just think it's kind of the same.

OP posts:
ToccataAndFudge · 15/03/2010 12:51

yes you're a tease - I had to look further to see what it was about

right must go and make lunch DS3 sitting there saying "mummy, are you going to make lunch"
