Pasta is totally shite, baby or otherwise. No nutritional value at all, just a quick insulin spike.

Even made with wholemeal flour, it's crap empty sugar.

electra · 11/03/2010 11:07

Ah, I knew there was a reason why eating pasta never makes me feel good.....which is why I avoid it all the time.

fernie3 · 11/03/2010 11:07

I bought these silly little stars months ago but they kept sticking to the pan and had no taste whatsoever. I just use normal pasta cut up now!

Rhubarb · 11/03/2010 11:10

You might as well get a tin of alphabetti spaghetti.

We got that once for old times sake, it was actually quite nice! Anyone tried the tinned builders breakfasts?

It's just downright bloody lazy though, cooked spaghetti, cut up with cooked tomatoes and beans - more nutritious and how long does that really take to do? Really? You can make it in bulk and put it in tubs.

Tut, mothers today!

WingedVictory · 11/03/2010 11:13

We use fusilli (twisty pasta), as it is the easiest to pick up, with hands or fork. I recommend it!

Champagneforlunch · 11/03/2010 11:17

I love it, but I get annoyed cutting up proper pasta it takes forever and i'm not cleaning the blender out every time my daughter has pasta.

OtterInaSkoda · 11/03/2010 11:39

Takes (or took rather) all of a couple of minutes to cook, great to go with a bit of homemade pasta sauce and/or some slightly whizzed up vegetables and a bit of cheese, easy as could be for little 'uns to use when getting to grips with using a spoon for themselves.

YABU!

Morloth · 11/03/2010 11:41

I didn't know you could make pasta from babies.

Alouiseg · 11/03/2010 13:17

Lol!! at Morloth.

ShauntheSheep · 11/03/2010 13:24

Where do people get these things from. I have never found any baby pasta, not tha tI have ever looked very hard. It never occured to me that babys needed their own pasta.

dont get the empty sugar comment either. Sugars are carbs but that does not make all carbs sugar unless things have changed since I did Home Ec. Whats so wrong with carbs then? I eats lots of carbs to give me energy. They are good for you.

electra · 11/03/2010 13:31

I thought carbs were good but only if unrefined carbs?

bruffin · 11/03/2010 13:34

Pasta is not empty carbs - it has protein in and Vitamin A.

ImSoNotTelling · 11/03/2010 13:34

I've never been keen on pasta.

Give me a good old fashioned potato any day of the week.

HTH

humptynumpty · 11/03/2010 13:38

I was told instead of buying "baby pasta" you buy normal pasta and smash it up a bit with a rolling pin before you cook it.
Job done!
Dunno about nutritional value of pasta - can't really see it's much worse than alot of other stuff. Bonuses are, cheap, quick, kids like it
my life would be alot more difficult without pasta!!

lovechoc · 11/03/2010 13:44

I never bought anything special for DS when weaning he just got what we had except in a pureed or cut up form. I don't understnd why people buy into all these gimmicky products. I don't cook seperate meals, we all eat the same kind of foods.

lovechoc · 11/03/2010 13:45

the Italians seem healthy enough where their diet consists of a LOT of pasta. it's no worse than tatties.

ooojimaflip · 11/03/2010 13:47

Pasta is carbohydrate in the form of starch. This is broken down in the body into sugar. Same as any other carbohydrate. Because the flour pasta is made from is very refined it's easier to digest and show is turned into sugar faster, so you get a bigger hit of sugar in one go as opposed to something less refined where the starch takes longer to break down so the sugar release is staggered over a longer time. This is the Glycemic Index people are wanking over these days.

lovechoc · 11/03/2010 13:48

lol @ oojaimaflip

Alouiseg · 11/03/2010 13:51

Bruffin???? Protein in pasta???? Negligable.

ooojimaflip · 11/03/2010 13:53

About 10% - I just looked it up - so low but negligable.

Alouiseg · 11/03/2010 13:57

The Italians don't eat loads of pasta!!! They eat loads of vegetables, the pasta or polenta is generally home made not a packet of dried crap with a sugary jar of sauce thrown over it.

porcamiseria · 11/03/2010 14:42

AGREE with Lovechoc

the Italians have vast range of baby pasta it rocks. and carbs are good, potatos, rice, bread. staple part of the worlds diet. are people outting babies on atkins FFS!!!!

I am biased tho......

ooojimaflip · 11/03/2010 15:06

Italians mainly eat dried pasta.

porcamiseria · 11/03/2010 15:08

The Italians don't eat loads of pasta!!!

errr, are you mad? They eat it every bloody day!

lovechoc · 11/03/2010 15:18

PMSL - I'll need to ask my Italian friends in the south if they don't each much pasta next time I'm in Naples then....

When I stayed with an Italian family where 'mum' does all the cooking from scratch, trust me, pasta was on the menu EVERY DAY. That was in 2007 so not long ago!! So yes, after living with Italians and seeing how they eat on a daily basis, I am qualified enough to say that they do eat pasta by the bucket load.
