Alouiseg · 11/03/2010 15:26

I'm half italian.

lovechoc · 11/03/2010 15:28

well said noddy! I like posters that just tell it like it is.

porcamiseria · 11/03/2010 15:31

I am not going to get into a fight over baby pasta! am rubbing arnica on my bruises from the BF thread TBH

BUT baby pasta is not for little Tarquins!!!! DC is SO NOT a Tarquin, but has been reared on it (lovingly sent from his Nonna...)

different strokes for different folks eh

A money saving tip: if you have a Polish deli near you, they often sell packets of tiny pasta shapes for about 70p. My friend uses them instead of baby pasta (my DS just gets whatever we're having, so I've never bought either).

lovechoc · 11/03/2010 15:35

I haven't even seen baby pasta in the shops! where on earth do you buy it? I have no intentions of using it with DC2, just curious...?

Elpis · 11/03/2010 15:38

Isn't pasta just a way of conveying veg to their mouths?

FWIW my 10 mo DD loves farfalle - she enjoys biting them in half and we pretend they're real butterflies. I put De Cecco's stelle, which are very small, in pasta sauce and freeze them. So yes, IMO baby pasta is a waste of time.

JaneS · 11/03/2010 15:39

Why not just buy pasta that's small, like stelline? Or is that what baby pasta is?

Elpis · 11/03/2010 15:39

lovechoc - Annabel Karmel likes to list it as an ingredient in her recipes ... that's Annabel Karmel's own-brand baby pasta, obviously ...

lovechoc · 11/03/2010 15:41

yep just a money-making racket then elpis. so many parents are taken in by annabel karmel.

Clothilde · 11/03/2010 19:33

Baby pasta is basically stelline. I have bought it in the past when I couldn't find teeny tiny pasta for myself, because it's one of my comfort foods for when I'm ill.

choufleur · 11/03/2010 19:38

vermicelli is good. just get a 'ball' and squash it in your hand before cooking. hey presto, thousands of tiny pieces of very thin pasta.

I recall having this conversation with somebody when weaning DD. I said that that baby pasta was just over-priced little bags of little shapes and I didn't bother with it and bought some stuff from Sainsburys designed for soup. Another mum then patronisingly said 'cerealqueen, its to do with gluten' Felt terribly stupid. I still didn't buy it though.

jasper · 11/03/2010 22:13

YABU because it won't affect you in ten years so let it go

usualsuspect · 11/03/2010 22:14

I don't know what baby pasta is...

BomDigger · 11/03/2010 22:39

I was saying this to DH just the other day.

Why why why would you buy teeny pasta shapes for £1.50 a bag when you could snap up spaghetti or even, if you must, buy conchiglini(sp?)?

Actually, I did once, but I put that down to tiredness and being in a strange environment.(On holiday.)
