To feel hurt at troll accusations?

Vivia · 09/03/2010 20:47

I posted a thread this morning that has shocked and saddened many MNers. I was a bit judgmental in my OP because I was in shock. People questioned why a person would come on here and reveal such awful information: I had no one else to talk to.

I made nothing up. I didn't sit weeping all day, that's why I have other random questions on MN today, and nor did I concoct a fantasy world either. As you can all see, I have frequently posted topics on MN and reply to others. I feed biscuits to real trolls, I'm not one!

Certainly my OP was true but perhaps in poor taste or badly worded: I wasn't thinking straight.

I feel physically sick knowing that people here think I would make up a story about a baby being accidentally hurt. I didn't.

People thought that the family involved would be recognizable by location if you figured out where I stay. I have always used the city I lived in as a student as 'home' on here, it's not actually where I am. I revealed nothing by way of identity and am angry to be accused of such.

That said, many people talked me through the sad situation and shared good tips on helping an injured child. You are all lovely.

I'm leaving MN now, decent people should not be made to feel monstrous here.

Thanks.

Can't make my mind up whats more entertaining, this episode of deja vu or the documentary about Manchester that has just started on channel 4.

wannaBe · 09/03/2010 22:04

shiny! What happened at the weekend?

RedRedWine1980 · 09/03/2010 22:05

Exactly Wannabe!
The 'oh well this board IS AIBU afterall...' seems a cop out at times for other members to feel justified for talking to others like shit on their shoe..not quite getting the link to asking if you are being unreasonable and asking to be abused/have accusations slung at you?

is someone going to tell me what happened at the weekend then?

junglist1 · 09/03/2010 22:13

Don't leave! Go back to the thread and tell everyone to fuck off! Why should you leave when you haven't done anything wrong

Just out of interest I looked at the Rospa website and apparently around 4,500 children suffer serious burns and scalds each year - that's 12 or 13 a DAY.
So not that strange to have two threads on the same topic close together maybe?

fallon8 · 09/03/2010 22:40

Vivia...what is a troll? Im older than you and dont always understand the languauge,so, if someone could explain that would be great. someone called me today..if its Tuesday must be troll day.I thought it was a compliment, oviously not!

Fallon8 - troll is a term of endearment used by MNs to describe people who are making interesting and entertaining points.

I wasn't meaning to imply that anyone who posts in AIBU should be prepared for flack to the extent of bullying and troll hunting.

I do think if the OP just wanted to offload and seek support, posting an emotive issue from a judgmental perspective (in AIBU!) wasn't necessarily the best way of going about it.

nickschick · 09/03/2010 23:05

Vivia dont go ....I was accused of trollery when I opened my heart about some v personal issues it gutted me so much that people who id thought were 'friends' could turn like that - it was an emotive suybject and i had namechanged tho .......your post made me reel with shock and ive relayed it to people 2 of whom often do the same thing with their babies and so in a postive way youve highlighted a very dangerous thing.

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 09/03/2010 23:09

Shiney, why were you and bof called bitches ?

BogofFun · 09/03/2010 23:14

I am to be found wherever there is a Shiney troll accusation. Buy one get one free, you see. I didn't see Vivia's thread- I was a good girl scout earlier and reported a thread instead of poking the troll. For all the good it's done. MNHQ can't always tell from the IP addresses, so our old wanking troll is free to tell Cinderella tales with impunity...ah well. I would assume a thread about a baby's accident to be true, tbh, because it would just be too awful to troll about. I wouldn't really want to participate in the thread though-it sounds very upsetting.

nickschick · 09/03/2010 23:17

Aww shiney your not a bitch (nor im sure is BOF)I like you .

wannaBe · 09/03/2010 23:19

omg I don't have you on fb. please email me the gory details [email protected].

SusieCarmichael · 09/03/2010 23:21

don't go vivia, i was hoping you would be able to find out how the baby was doing

obviously other reasons to stay also like mn is just fabulous!

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 09/03/2010 23:24

Ah I see, never mind, just ignore em.

RedbinDippers · 09/03/2010 23:24

BoF IP addresses are not always static, so some peoples change every time they log on & I.m sure that loads of us connect from both work and home as well. Don't enter snivelling, put on your armour of rightenouess (or however its spelt) and go get the fuckers.

copperjar · 09/03/2010 23:27

If you're not terribly well-known and post something contentious, you may well be called a troll. If you are well-liked and straight-talking, at some point you will be called a bitch. Neither should faze anybody too much if you and the people you know realize it's bollocks.

Certainly not worth leaving for: stand your ground.

I've never been called a troll or a bitch, and I'm certainly straight-talking.
