Everyone knows sandwich crusts should match

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 09/03/2010 13:39

Just had this argument discussion with dp when he caught me rearranging his sandwiches, he says it dosent matter.

I say it does.

The bottom crust should match the bottom crust, and the top crust should match the top crust, it looks better, is tidier and holds the filling in better.

When was the last time anybody saw a shop bought butty with unmatched crusts hey ??

So tell me, am I being unreasonable to sneak behind dp and match his crusts for him ??!!

YANBU. Of course they should match. And you have to eat the half made with the bottom first. It's the law.

Buddleja · 09/03/2010 19:03

You're a very understanding dp - DH would be out on his ear if he did such a think.

There is no Court in the land that wouldn't pass sentance. By penelty of death. Though I think that would be getting them off lightly.

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/03/2010 19:22

Not read all replies BUT

all the bread also needs to be covered with the filling, no bread showing. Butter to the corners and yes bread has to match.

Milk goes into the cup after the water otherwise you are a MIF= MILK IN FIRST!!

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 09/03/2010 19:42

I heartily agree, milk in cup AFTER water, tastes wrong otherwise.

And who else peels the crusts off and eats them seperately ?

OP posts:
BritFish · 09/03/2010 19:43

i have only read the first page but milk in with the tea is WRONG.

curlimum · 09/03/2010 19:52

i like my sandwich to be lined up, but what im really strict is how i eat it! got to start at one corner and go across, so that not left with only crust at the end. biting straight into the middle not allowed!

also, i dont like ending on crust, so i always leave the last little corner on my plate. dh says with utter amazement 'whats wrong with that bit??' he thinks im a complete loon

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/03/2010 20:04

I peel crusts off and bin them

assumetheposition · 09/03/2010 20:09

Me too Evenstar

I went through a phase thinking that I was an adult and really should eat my crusts.

The I decided, sod it, I'm an adult and I can eat what I like.

It just means I haven't got a leg to stand on when DS1 only eats half his sandwich

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/03/2010 20:11

Assume, DS2 is 2 and refuses to eat the crusts.
I also went through that stage of pretending i was an adult and should eat the crusts although i now don't care what anyone thinks.

wuglet · 09/03/2010 20:20

curlimum I do that!
Not bothered about where I start but often don't eat the bit that I have been holding. (nothing to do with my fingers having been on it...just a weird thing I do)

MarineIguana · 09/03/2010 21:22

OMG of course they have to match! I don't think I have ever even seen a non-matched sandwich

But if I did I would most certainly rearrange.

And yes butter and filling must go right to the edges - and all over the bread - with cheese I will actually cut and shape little pieces of cheese to fit any gaps

Daffodilly · 09/03/2010 21:50

Matching without doubt.

DH will make a sandwich out of one regular slice and the end slice of a loaf! Insane. I would have to be very, very hungry to eat one of these.

CityGirlGoesCountry · 09/03/2010 23:07

It has to match it has to match it has to match!! YASoooNBU

I take it you were on the "It goes knives forks spoons!!" thread??

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 09/03/2010 23:20

I lurked on knives forks spoons I admit

As for loaf ends, these must NOT be used, no matter how desperate, the endre for the bird table only! In fact, what is the point in including these chewy articles at all ??

OP posts:
CityGirlGoesCountry · 09/03/2010 23:22

Well, the loaf end should be placed over the end of the bread before rewrapping to keep in the moisture of course

SoMuchToBits · 09/03/2010 23:24

I also agree that as well as matching, the butter and filling must go right to the edges.

BUT if I'm making tea, I usually make it in a pot with leaves - and put the milk in the cup first, then pour the tea in from the teapot. If I'm making teabag-in-a-cup tea (which usually only happens on camping trips or places which don't have a teapot, e.g. where I used to work) then I put the teabag and milk in the cup and pour on boiling water. Then wait until it looks the right colour and fish the teabag out. I find this means you can tell when it's ready more easily, and also you don't get scum on the top (which you do if you add boiling water to the teabag, then take teabag out and add milk). I appreciate that this might be because I live in a very hard water area, and this might not occur in some other areas of the country.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 09/03/2010 23:25

Soapsy, your husband uses slices from different loaves? That's just ridiculous.

SwissCheese, my mother thinks they are there to seal in the freshness; so you put the crust bit back in the bag to stop the middle bits going stale.

Obviously bread should match. This is just not even a question.

SoMuchToBits · 09/03/2010 23:26

I also do the loaf end on the end of the bread thing. But also ds loves the loaf end (I call it the crust, dh calls it the heel but that's a whole other thread lol!) toasted for breakfast, so is never wasted.

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/03/2010 23:28

ok so here is my list of right and wrong ways...

Bread must match
MIL = Milk in last
There IS a right and left to socks
ALL coat hangers and clothes MUST face the same way in the wardrobe.
Pegs MUST be used in the right colour groups and all clothes MUST face the same way on the line.
I have my own Mug and nobody can use it or i have to buy a new one (hence having so many mugs now)
Butter MUST cover the bread to the corners as MUST fillings.
Cheese on Toast - the cheese must be covering all the bread and melted until going brown.
Light switches must all face the same way (if you have more than one for the same light iyswim?)
Pillows must have the open side of the case facing inwards.
I cannot sleep with my back facing a window
Blinds/Curtains MUST be closed before lights are put on.

ooppss just read that back and i sound very fussy lol but i do have OCD so ignore me haha

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 09/03/2010 23:58

I know somebody who co-ordinates her pegs with her clothes.

My sister puts every mug handle in the cupboard to the right. And every tin label facing front. And she will do the same in my house when I'm not looking on occasion!!

Nettiespagetti · 10/03/2010 00:10

< searches for krellian pie>

I says is this thread abbbsssolluteky non verbal? I said my bums sair and I went te sleep!!!

Bread bread wonderful bread who wants it spread with sausage and lead!?

TheLadyEvenstar · 10/03/2010 00:18

Citygirl, i do that with mugs and labels....

MarineIguana · 10/03/2010 00:18

Um what, nettie?

June2009 · 10/03/2010 00:30

When i prepare a sandwich or a cheesy toast I always cut off one of the corners with a knife and eat that first. Even when i'm preparing a snack for dh, he is very vexed that he always has a corner missing, I cannot help it.

yanbu, it must match, butter on both sides, spread evenly right to the corners, ditto for filling.
I don't cut my sandwiches. I know this is a flaw ;)
