To wonder why there are always more disabled spaces than mother&baby spaces in car parks?

In places like Waitrose, John Lewis, etc. Surely there are more mothers with little children out there than disabled people?

thanks

Don't you think that fraud should be addressed stewie?

All those spaces being used fraudulently are stopping someone with genuine need from parking there That one I linked to showed 1/4 of the passes checked were being used fraudulently. That is significant. Why should people who use passes fraudulently been given a green light to continue - I would have thought that was something people would be keen to eradicate.

ImSoNotTelling · 05/03/2010 19:07

I can't do my sums. Not a quarter. 12 out of "more than 50". So maybe 1/5.

foxinsocks · 05/03/2010 19:07

just makes me sad

that parts of society weigh parking nearer the shop over having consideration for those who might be less well off than them (not in money terms )

perhaps we should just take the wheelchairs and walking aids awy from disabled people..
i mean ffs how very dare thay go out and inconvince the mummies.

mumtobp · 05/03/2010 19:09

IMSONOTTELLING I think its hard to catch someone in the act of using a fraudulent badge. I heard that they were very desirable and a lot have been stolen out of cars etc.

madhairday · 05/03/2010 19:10

Anyone got deja vu?

Mumsnet should make this into a sticky at the top of AIBU. Let's make it easier for everyone to have a disabled space/p & C space thread going ALL THE TIME!! Yaaaay!

(oh and by the way. disabled people can wear high heels too. I'm quite partial to them myself. I don't have a v expensive car but would be very happy to, then I could stride out of it in my high heels and really get the judgy pants going

Only good thing about this thread - misdee's post. Yay

leavingonajetplane · 05/03/2010 19:12

ROFL at the term "able bodied parking space"

If such a thing existed, would we be banned from using it as DS is not able-bodied? This would be difficult as the disabled bays are usually full where we are.

Perhaps non-dedicated parking space would be more accurate.

ImSoNotTelling · 05/03/2010 19:12

Well the coppers round here catch people like billy-o.

And it is well publicised to put the wind up any other people thinking about it.

Bloody good thing too IMO.

I was horrified when I found out that people I know who have blue badges in the family just share it around so they can park where-ever they like. Stuff like that makes me fume.

onebadbaby · 05/03/2010 19:13

I don't really care about P&T spaces, they are always full and I accept that. I am perfectly capable of, and always use ordinary spaces. My only gripe is that there are too msny diasabled spaces that are never used. On several occasions I have had to leave a car park because it has been full, while the disabled spaces remain empty. Why can't people on here accept an obsevation and different perspective without taking it as a personal insult and wishing unfortunate things on the poster??

posieparkerfuckityfuck · 05/03/2010 19:14

Fucking hell, high heels and a blue badge...

How very dare you look nice! Honestly.

ImSoNotTelling · 05/03/2010 19:15

madhair yes I was at myself for that one. Because you just don't know, how can you? And it's none of your business anyway.

Which is why I think they need to clamp down on the fraud - that incident happened just after one of their high profile clamp downs. So people where I live know that many blue badges are being used fraudulently, and it makes people suspicious. Which is a bad thing.

These fraudulent badge users have a lot to answer for IMO.

posieparkerfuckityfuck · 05/03/2010 19:16

My DH works with a guy who uses his father's badge daily to park next to work.....tbh I think using one when you don't need it is tempting fate.

I didn't wish unfortunate things on you..I hope you didn't mean me. Just you sound like an idiot complaining about the number of disabled spaces, it's just one of those things you cannot complain about and sound reasonable.

onebadbaby · 05/03/2010 19:20

So, it would still be reasonable then if we only allowed disabled parking spaces in all car parks and the rest of had to catch the bus??

mumtobp · 05/03/2010 19:21

I think if people were encouraged o walk more there wouldn't be as much obesity, and the need for those mobility scooters (which is another issue - seen them parked in disabled bays, also with no badge)

posieparkerfuckityfuck · 05/03/2010 19:22

No.

mumtobp · 05/03/2010 19:23

OBB no one said to do that either

MrsC2010 · 05/03/2010 19:40

Yawn, I got to pg 3 before losing my patience and committing the cardinal sin of replying before reading all others!

I have had numerous 'incidences' in disabled bays where my mother (who has one leg post cancer so looks fully able when sitting) has been rollocked through the window by someone feeling self-righteous. I find it hard to get cross with them cause fair play for standing up for the bays. Once she has explained/got out of the car all is fine. If she is dropping me off to run in she will never then take up a blue bay, she will park as near as possible and watch out for me. Ditto if I drop her off, which rarely happens as it seems odd for my mother to hobble off while I chill in the car!

To whoever said blue badges get given out willy nilly that couldn't be further from the truth, they are gold dust to get hold of and you have to jump through hoops to get them (not literally of course, that criteria would be rather hard to meet!). My mother had to fight long and hard despite her above knee amputation making life very difficult.

I find it hard to take these threads seriously. Are there really people out there who are still so ignorant/self-important?! Apparently so, but I'm glad I only encounter them in environments such as this and not in real life.

MrsC2010 · 05/03/2010 19:42

Oh, and there are very rarely empty disabled spaces where we are...so I wouldn't say there was a surplus.

2shoes · 05/03/2010 19:44

i do wonder why people even bother to answer some of the ignorant posts on thease threads.
are people really this jealous of diasbled people?

ToccataAndFudge · 05/03/2010 19:50

2shoes.............my DS melted in the bath (he's all dry and back to normal now )

southeastastra · 05/03/2010 19:51

mumtobp i agree! change 4 life and all that.

they queue to get into our m and b parking spaces here, making the whole car park really dangerous to old folk and youngsters. they also park where they aren't supposed to as they have a baby. it's quite mad.

mothers these days are generally a bit neurotic i've found.
