Have you tried lion poo? You can get it in garden centres.
Front or back garden? my GParents back garden is 99% cat proof.
cats are not keen on kiddies shiny windmills- the sort you buy on the seafront- but they only work on windy days!

pjmama · 04/03/2010 19:46

I've heard orange or lemon rind puts them off. If they're always getting in via the same route, you could try some kind of repellant in that area. If it's a big open garden though with many routes in then I'd suggest a large pump action water rifle and squirt the buggers if you see them.

I tried literallt everything, pepper, orange peel, that smelly plant, water, cds and other reflective stuff, lion poo (silent roar), sonic repellar things - nothing worked!

I bought a water pistol and have squirted all of them at least once. They come in less now (maybe 1 or 2 visits a day v 10 or 12!). As soon as they hear me pumping it they run away, so we are poo free!

I bought some strultch to lay on the beds and I think this makes them less likely to dig when I am out.

HTH

lovechoc · 04/03/2010 20:00

I hate them aswell. We would never buy a cat, can't stand them tbh. I found poo in the planter outside our front door. It wasn't very well buried, so I scooped it out, but why should I have to do that? It's not my cat. I should just post it through the cat owner's letterbox. Cats are nothing but a nuisance. GRRRR!!

Rugbylovingmum · 04/03/2010 20:01

We tried loads of things but the only one that worked was a sonic alarm. It was easy to place it in our yard though as they only used the raised beds as a litter tray, it might be easier for them to avoid setting the alarm off in a garden. Good luck!

bernadetteoflourdes · 04/03/2010 20:05

I suppose dog pooh is better, is this dog owners revenge for the earlier thread?

asteri · 05/03/2010 08:58

My mum had this problem with her neighbours cat and now she uses citronella, she sprays it just on her garden furniture but as it smells quite strong it keeps her neighbours cat away.

Peaceflower · 05/03/2010 09:13

YANBU. I have the same problem. The idea of children's windmills sounds good, will try positioning them at the access points.

What I hate most about cats is that they come in the house if I leave a window or door open. It's so bad that in warmer weather, I cannot open the patio doors. Next oor's cat comes in and goes upstairs to lie/poo on the beds!

I have fantasies about what to do with cats!

nvj · 05/03/2010 09:19

YANBU... i have a cat and love cats (also love dogs so no allegiance!) but we have trained our cat to poo and wee in her litter tray.. she still goes outside but always comes in to do her business... i personally feel it should be made compulsory and cat owners should be fined much like dog owners (although probably too difficult to monitor?!)

no answers really i'm afraid... we have other people's cats in our garden sometimes but i usually just give them a squirt with the hosepipe if they look like they're going to poo!

CaptianPicardsPineapple · 05/03/2010 09:24

My mum used to position twigs sticking up out of her flower beds and pots so that the cats couldn't get in the right position for a poop without getting sticks up their bums. Cheap and easy and worth a try?

Whoamireally · 05/03/2010 10:50

This brings back memories of a very similar thread I posted on AIBU about 3 years ago in a previous MN incarnation....I got severely flamed for saying that I simply picked up the poo on a little hand trowel and threw it back over the fence into my neighbour's garden. Can't think why!

MrsVidic · 05/03/2010 11:12

have you told them about it/ asked them to move it. I would be mortified if y cat was doing it to that extent and would offer to clear it up

LittleMissSnowShine · 05/03/2010 11:19

I have 2 cats and if they were taking a crap in my neighbours' gardens I would think the neighbours were completely justified in getting a water pistol out. They also hate the smell of lemon so even just squirting lemon juice all over your flower beds and lawn might work?

ScaredOfCows · 05/03/2010 11:19

Are you sure it is cats pooing on the grass? Cats are usually fastidious about burying theirs, whereas in our garden, the foxes leave several 'cats poo' sized offerings on the lawn each night - feckers!

Waterduck · 05/03/2010 11:20

We have several neighbour's cats that come & cr*p in our garden & pee on our car tyres, we have tried all sorts but are now considering one of the sonic plug in thingymabobs, although fear it may set next doors dogs off barking?!! (who incidentally STINK, especially during warmer weather...yak yak yak...)

slightlystressed · 05/03/2010 11:28

Get a cat hating dog! That keeps them out of the back garden, but they still feel the need to poo in the flowerbed out the front, I put thorny twigs inbetween the plants, it helps a little big....I might start using shards of glass......

yellowcircle · 05/03/2010 11:30

YANBU. I hate it. I've had a flowerbed turfed over because the cats from next door wouldn't stop crapping on it.

I hate it when cat owners don't have litter trays, especially when houses are in such close proximity to eachother these days. I have to inspect my garden before letting 3yo and 1yo out - my garden is just a small rectangle and it is ruined by cats.

I never let my kids in the front garden (it is very small, but hard to see cat poo as it has a bush and is a bit sloped). I've even stepped in it myself there.

I can't see why it's acceptable to own an animal that impacts so negatively on one's neighbours.

2old4thislark · 05/03/2010 11:39

I don't have cat poo in the garden cos I have two dogs! At least the dogs go in the same place and I go and do a poo check twice a day.

At my last house one of the neighbours cat's pooed in the middle of the lawn where the kids played - yuk!

GrungeBlobPrimpants · 05/03/2010 11:46

YANBU this is one of my bugbears. Our next door neighbours have 3 cats and they are constantly pooing on our lawn and garden. Have tried loads of different things, all works for short while and then back to square one.

Totally gross

fifa · 05/03/2010 17:44

Defo cats as have caught the "feckers" at it ! and no foxes to note in our area seen scaling a gate and fence.Might find the shards of glass a little on the extreme but thanks! Will contact the council and see what they say on the matter otherwise i think it will be a flyer drop .Have no issue with cats in their own right and appreciate they are not as pliable as the affable canine.
Have tried the water pistols and the DDs are on cat alert-Big roar(lil lion cubs, not heard of that one about lion poo, ta!)
Might look into the sonic alarm though.
We are not dog owners and DH allergic but willing to let some loose in our garden
Ta all

We have the same problem. Our grass is forever covered in cat poo and its soooooooo annoying!!! I will try some of the suggestions on here - have tried orange peel but no luck with that! Its disgusting that a cat that I don't even own comes and poos in my garden and then I have to check it every time my 2 yr old wants to go out and play!

Milliways · 05/03/2010 17:50

We have our own cats & dog, BUT I detest the constant fox poo & deer droppings that are left everywhere.

fifa · 05/03/2010 17:52

Plus don't know which cat belongs with which neighbour. Seems as if every other house has one now.The slinky malinkys seem to creep along the fence and drop down so don't know which direction they have come from.
Crafty critters!Shame youngest is now potty trained should have let her loose on the neighbours!
