to think that people who follow their star signs are bonkers

I mean those people who say - "we get on because we have complimentary star sign".

Or "what star sign are you?" who really cares about this and why??

I'm writing about people who read star signs and believe them - i just think it is madness and dismiss people who believe in star signs as being a bit dim witted.

Sometimes in evolution there is a genetic slip-up which creates a slightly different creature. Maybe a mouse with wings. If it's a useful difference the creature will prosper a new species is created. Sometimes the difference is not useful and the creature and any offspring will eventually die out.

People who follow their star signs are an example of the latter type of genetic mutant. A step backwards. A dead-end in evolution. They are the useless child of our species and will die out due to their stupidity.

YANBU - problem is that often the more vulnerable people get lured into thinking there is more to them than there actually is. Same with tarot and clairvoyants. All tosh but sadly some people really think that things pertinent to their lives can be foreseen by all of the above.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/03/2010 23:21

TiggyD - what are you on about?

UnquietDad · 04/03/2010 23:26

I think it is all a bunch of woo and bollocks.

Obviously not a typical Gemini.

Remotew · 04/03/2010 23:28

YANBU, they are bonkers. Haven't read the thread but your star sign is the same as 1/12th of the population. However some people believe that you can pinpoint your time and place of birth and the position of the stars/moon can predict your personality and blah, blah, for a believer that makes more sense. Is it called astronomy?

Reckon it's crap anyway. Just something for insecure people to clutch at.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/03/2010 23:29

NOT astronomy!

YanknCock · 04/03/2010 23:31

I heard about a great experiment on the subject of astrology.

A large group of people (about 30) were given what they were told was a individual personality profile based on their birth date/star sign. They read them, and then were asked to raise their hands if they thought it was an accurate representation of them. Most people raised their hands. Then they were asked to hand it to a person behind them.

All the profiles were identical.

displayuntilbestbefore · 04/03/2010 23:32

it's astrology

astronomy is scienctific study - space exploration, dark matter, black holes, astrophysics etc

astrology is hokum

displayuntilbestbefore · 04/03/2010 23:33

scientific

Next month exactly one twelfth of the planet will go on a journey, a different one twelfth will start a new phase in their life, the next one twelfth of the planet will accidentally stick their hand in a blender...

choosyfloosy · 04/03/2010 23:38

Many years ago I used to cast horoscopes having got a book from the library, and really thought there was something in it. However, in my defence I was 17 years old. I also had a crush on Michael Jackson.

It is fairly embarrassing to think that simultaneously to all that, I was passing 2 science O-levels. It possibly didn't help that I went on to arts A-levels - there is a lot of astrology in Shakespeare and in Tudor art.

I like the old Cyril Connolly story, last read in Katharine Whitehorn's autobiography, that his worst moment in WWII was when a general's wife rang him up to ask him the next day's horoscope as her husband wanted to plan a battle.

displayuntilbestbefore · 04/03/2010 23:39

I like the ones that say
"You will receive news about something important"
"Someone close to you will ask you to do something for them and you will have to make a decision"

choosyfloosy · 04/03/2010 23:52

display i love those too

'a friend has found you too forthcoming in the past'
'now would be a good time to work hard'
'you could decide to contact an old friend'

Granny23 · 05/03/2010 00:01

Another sceptical Virgo here BUT I can swallow that the time of year you are born could have an effect on your future personality. The early months of a baby born at the start of Winter will differ a fair bit from those born in late Spring in terms of daylight hours, wrapping up, etc. and later on age of potting training (many parents defer until warmer weather) and now we have only one intake a year age at starting school can vary by as much as 364 days. All of these factors COULD influence later personality traits e.g. people born in Autumn might develop into 'homebodys' whilst those born early Summer might be more 'outdoorsy'. Maybe I am quite mad too but I can see a bit of logic in my theory.

Morloth · 05/03/2010 07:35

Does astrology allow for planetary drift? Black holes etc?

RedbinDippers · 05/03/2010 07:42

Us taureans reciognise a load of bull we see it.
