to think it's not on for my neighbour to put cones outside our house to reserve himself a parking space?

Parking's a bit of a premium around here, and a few people put cones outside their house to reserve themselves a parking space... I'm not keen on that, it's a bit selfish, but each to their own. I got back from the supermarket today to find my neighbour across the street couldn't get a space outside their house, so they put their cones outside our house... I had to park a 5 min walk away, carry 6 bags of shopping and a 9 week old dd.

So, is it just not on, or do I need to get out more (reserving my parking space before I go of course )?

If's a public road, he's in the wrong. Anyone can park anywhere (unless stated by official type signs) and there nothing that he or any amount of cones can do about it.

He'll probably have a go, but at the end of the day he's has no right to reserve a parking space just so he can get close to his house.

Oh Marmaduke thank you for reminding me about Alan Partridge and his cones.

Oh I remember laughing my head of at that. And Dave the DJ taking the piss out of Alan the next day.

God knows where they nick them from. My mum's neighbours cones had Devon and Cornwall police on them, so he had pinched them from a crime scene possibly.

Someone I want a link to Alan Partidge and cones please this would really cheer me up.

bernadetteoflourdes · 04/03/2010 15:06

was it the series where someone had daubed cock piss twat on his rover?

GetOrfMoiLand · 04/03/2010 15:13

YES!

And where he lives in a Travelodge.

I still roll with laughter if I am in B&Q and I see tungsten tipped screws.

A few years ago, I got home from being away for a few weeks and a man was putting out cones in front of my flat, which was in central part of town.

I asked him what he was doing, and he said it was for the funeral of next door neighbor

Anyway, as long as it isn't for a funeral, then absolutely move the cones.

I just LOVE IT when Dave the DJ at the end is ripping the piss re cones and Alan just gets exasperated and says 'oh fuck off' on air.

Lol

I hate it when people do this. We used to have a neighbour who was a bit obsessive about parking right outside his house. He and his wife both have cars, and they once, weeks ago got two spaces next to each other. Ever since then, if one of them has to move the car, the other one then moves in so that the remaining car occupies the middle of BOTH spaces so that it is reserved for when the other person comes back. That seriously annoys me. Not least because each house has one space in front of them only and they usually occupy what should be OUR space!

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 04/03/2010 15:40

I like the " I thought I was going to be sick"........in the cone????? They've got holes in the top, or bottom as he would have it. Bleugh!!!!!!!1

MPuppykin · 04/03/2010 15:40

is obsessive I mean, not past tense. (Bad grammar alert)

bernadetteoflourdes · 04/03/2010 15:44

Ha Ha Partidge at his finest "Cone but not forgotten" am sending link to nephew at uni.
Had a good chuckle worth 10 prozac this is why I love mnet. (Dave Clifton sounded just like Tony Blackburn!)

heliotrope · 04/03/2010 15:55

YANBU. We have done it a couple of times (we use wheely bins not cones!) but only when we've needed to move a washing machine in / get a skip delivered. People are very understanding for these one off things - we don't even have a car so aren't takking up space the rest of the time.
LOl at him putting his house number on them, what a dick.

mayorquimby · 04/03/2010 16:04

nothing is more guarenteed to make me park somewhere than cones saving a space on a public road.

BigRedTomato · 04/03/2010 17:21

just as long as in your quest to park anywhere you like on a public highway you don't park across my bloody driveway!

TheArcaneMommy · 04/03/2010 18:11

cheeky bugger putting cones outside your home!

I certainly would not have parked elsewhere, id have parked outside my house without hesitation! Would he have said anything to you if you had done this? Perfect opportunity to laugh in his face then!

Seriously, park outside your won house and ignore all this cone madness I tell ya!
