Okay my last day at uni is also my 30th birthday- everyone in the group is aware. The lecturers were talking about going for lunch and one of the girls said 'oh its your birthday you should choose' a couple of self centred people tried to say oh im not going there at where I suggested even though when it has been there birthday we've done what they want.
SOOO AIBU?

Are rolly rolly rolly eyes not sarky too?

Kneazle · 04/03/2010 12:05

a bit sarky but not a personal attack.

RedRedWine1980 · 04/03/2010 12:05

Yep- they came after the initial sarcasm so are acceptable

anyway thanks for your sensible views x

Kneazle · 04/03/2010 12:05

Oh i see what you mean greeney

Kneazle · 04/03/2010 12:06

Maybe you should just celebrate on a different day.

RedRedWine1980 · 04/03/2010 12:07

Okay I am wrong- you are all right- do I get a dunce hat now?

OP posts:
mazzystartled · 04/03/2010 12:07

oh are they saying they won't come out for lunch with you?

i understand the landmark birthday wobbles but just go for lunch with the group. will it RUIN your birthday? no. do something you decide upon in the evening.

greeneyeshadow · 04/03/2010 12:07

I am sorry if you took my quip about your typos as an attack - i did caveat it with a furtive hope that they were typos.
Doubt MNHQ will do much with the reported posts, they are generally quite sensible.

RedRedWine1980 · 04/03/2010 12:07

Its okay whoever wants to come can come and whoever doesnt want to can go for a carvery or whatever floats their boat!

OK, I was already shaking my head and laughing at this thread, then you tell someone she is getting personal about correcting her own typo???

2010aQuintessentialOdyssey · 04/03/2010 12:10

Yes, I did read about the grand ball that the "moaners" have organized.

But I dont think you can compare a students ball with a lunch together with the lecturers.

I wouldnt throw a strop about who organizes what, and I would not feal any entitlement to decide the venue, even if some suggested it, just because it was my birthday.

I might have suggested one, but if some people did not agree, I would just have said "Fair enough, lets find a venue where we will all want to go, or let the Lecturers suggest one" - this avoiding confrontation and chosing. But that is just me.

But I shall leave this now. Good luck with your graduation. It is for most a Once in a lifetime Event.

confuddledDOTcom · 04/03/2010 12:10

Ah I must have missed that one, but the order the posts came at it did look funny!

RedRedWine1980 · 04/03/2010 12:12

And the actual graduation ceremony at the cathedral where you wear your gowns etc isnt on the last day- methinks some have been inhaling too many cilit bang fumes before they read some of the posts!

I think you are projectiong your own cilit bang addiction to us.

pmsl

you are so funny.

confuddledDOTcom · 04/03/2010 12:17

I should imagine that even without your birthday that the class would have been going out for lunch - it's the last day of an important course! I bet there will be lots of classes all over the country going out for lunch at exactly the same time. A ball is not the same as going out together with your class mates and lecturers on your last day.

If you do something that others won't want to go to you are taking that from them.

Normally I would say it's your choice and blow 'em if they don't want to go, but it's not just your birthday. My birthday is around and we're going to an American because I love them, not all my friends do but they can find something to eat there so they're going because it's my choice.

RedRedWine1980 · 04/03/2010 12:17

Nope no cilit bang addiction here- only crystal meths.

attack even.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 04/03/2010 12:32

Quintessential can you not read? The bit about not making personal attacks?
Post reported x

Not a personal attack. And the kiss is a bit out of place.

YANBU though - they should out of politeness have agreed to go where you wanted. But it's not a big deal - so they are self centred people - don't hang out with them!

RedRedWine1980 · 04/03/2010 12:34

Thank you Kat- someone who can answer without flinging sarcastic remarks/silly insults left right and centre.

Ouch. You got me deleted.
I take it back then, you're not at all unreasonable, self centred or prissy. I can see now just how wrong I was.

Shame you can't delete the people in real life that don't agree with you, innit?

RedRedWine1980 · 04/03/2010 12:59

Its a shame you cant delete people who are unable to discuss matters without chucking names at people thats for sure.

intercoursethepenguin · 04/03/2010 13:03

Pointing out typos is just pedantic crap

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 04/03/2010 13:05

RedRedWine80

Chill out! Have you read the AIBU topic much before? everyone gets the piss taken, there are always people who don't agree with you, and nobody has called you anything unpleasant - just a bit silly. You really need to not worry about it, and FTR, you are making yourself look a bit daft.

I assume from the X at the end of your other message that you haven't been posting on MN long. There are loads of boards where people are much nicer than AIBU, I suggest you migrate for a while!
