1/3/10 BBC 4 9pm 'Zimbabwe's forgotten children'

Has anyone been watching this documentary???

I am still crying after nearly an hour of watching the children of Zimbabwe suffer so much that they want to give up. Do you think Zimbabwe needs our help? I feel like setting up a charity for these children...but feel it definately isnt welcome while Mugabe is still in power...why is it that we can use so much of tax payers money to fund a war against the taliban, yet leave these people to die???

Please people am I being unreasonable?

that was meant to say 'and in return live a free life'

Toc I read that only a few moments ago...its sickening to think that someone could pass these kind of legislations...51% for crying out loud...I take it the hundreds of millions of UD dollars from china was not enough???

expat - so true those power outages - think the longest I experienced was 3 days, but it's worse out there now.

ToccataAndFudge · 02/03/2010 00:38

btw expat (sorry thread hi-jack) I'm coming up to bonny Scotland in the summer holidays - would love to arrange to meet you at some point...........

expatinscotland · 02/03/2010 00:40

Toc, are you on FB? Well, I know you are. You know how to find me? I've seen you through a certain friend of ours.

expatinscotland · 02/03/2010 00:40

A friend who will also soon be in Scotland, albeit further north.

Chellesgirl · 02/03/2010 00:40

I know it started way before that...but in recent times it has only added to the amount of people in poverty right??? correct me if im wrong...I never actually thought Id get anyone on this thread...I really wanted to, it pulls on my heart strings...and its really nice to know other people feel the same way.

ToccataAndFudge · 02/03/2010 00:41

ToccataAndFudge · 02/03/2010 00:42

ermm ok - is it on their most recent status update??????

Chellesgirl · 02/03/2010 00:43

power outages for 3 days!!!!!! wow...our gas and elec comp wouldnt be able to go 24 hrs without having to fix the problem. But in relation to having no gas or elec for 3 days, to having no gas or elec at all...I know which one id prefer

OP posts:
ToccataAndFudge · 02/03/2010 00:44

gas? oh blimey we never had gas

When the electric went out that was the power gone, it was good old wood/coal and matches (usually in the form of a braii)

expatinscotland · 02/03/2010 00:50

VERY recent. Not one of her knitting ones, because I don't knit.

I'd say CAT, but we're stony skint till Fri. and my subscription's expired.

hatwoman · 02/03/2010 00:51

Plan International is managing to do some work in Zim - we sponsor a boy there through them

expatinscotland · 02/03/2010 00:51

Right! I've found you! NO worries!

expatinscotland · 02/03/2010 00:54

Apologise for hijack.

Back to Zim.

Chellesgirl · 02/03/2010 00:59

hat, how do you know that the money actually does go to him??? this is what im worried about, that if I give money it may not all go to the child...
as a christian I believe that I shouldnt just give money as im not actually doing anything constructive...that i should be out there doing something for them. But its hard to get out there...so i think a charity set up specifically for the children and babies, for schooling, clean water, food and clothing, etc...and then I personally would take the items over with me with hopefully what could be volunteers.

I think I know what i want to do, just not know how to do it grrrrr.
