School run!!!..............

MrsNetz · 01/03/2010 15:42

Now I know I am likely to be hung up drawn and quartered but...........
On two occasions I happened to be out walking at school pick up time since ds 3.5 and dd 1.5 have come along!
First time due to cars being parked on the pavement like totally on the pavement I had to push the buggy onto the road just to navigate past!
Second time was today lovely sunny day thought good idea to take children out on bikes (fresh air and exercise being recommend) (and to stop them driving
me bananas) on the way home pushing dd and ds bike had again had to go on road just to get past!!!

Now I understand nowhere to park but omg this is parents picking up their children surely they can see what a danger this poses?!?!? Am I being unreasonable to ask parents to think about the pedestrians who are supposed to be able to use the pavements?????!!!!

YANBU it is one of my pet hates in general ppl that park cars on pavements without any consideration for prams or wheelchairs but outside school is not acceptable the majority of ppl that drive to school is out pure laziness!!

Batteryhuman · 01/03/2010 15:49

Ask school to send a letter out to all parents asking them politely not to do this and giving the reasons why.

AgesAgo · 01/03/2010 15:49

Is there other parking in the area? If your school is like ours, there is nowhere else to park, and people have to park somewhere when driving in from a distance.

Yes, I feel bad about it, but try to get in and out of school as quickly as possible in order to free up the area again.

Not parked completely on the pavement though, i must say.

Call your local council parking enforcement department - they come and do 'swoops' outside our school and ticket everyone who is on the pavement or the zig zags.

Since many pupils walk in from around half a mile away, it isn't unreasonable that people who drive shouldn't park up to half a mile away and walk the last bit. Or make their own representations to the council for legal parking. Parking on the pavement is completely unacceptable.

Blu · 01/03/2010 15:54

herbietea - yes, my feelings about this are heightened by my experience of DS being in a wheelchair for a year.

knowmyrights · 01/03/2010 15:57

Tell the school! Ours names and shames - actually publishes the reg of any wrongdoer and asks them to see the Head.

The usual offence is pavement parking or blocking a driveway. It's dangerous, it's lazy and it's antisocial - I hate it.

MrsNetz · 01/03/2010 15:57

I have once written to the school and I'm sorry but someone I know has written to the police and they did issue tickets to cars parked on pavement! There is no parking but there is the street I live on where they could park on the road might mean they have to walk a little distance but they wouldn't have to Park on pavements!!

I do appreciate it is difficult but there were two cars today that completely blocked the pavement and it is totally unacceptable to have to take a 3.5 yr old and a 1.5 year old onto the road just to get past!!

I will get back onto the council and the school might suggest a name and shame too. Might not make me all that popular when my kids get to the school though!
My friend is full time in wheelchair and if street furniture and things don't make life difficult enough inconsiderate parkers truelly take the biscuit!!!

bluemonkey123 · 01/03/2010 16:02

You are not eing unreasonable at all!!

Our school has a mini roundabout near it and we get parents parking on the roundabout!!!!!
They obviously don't do it when the camera smart car is there, but every other day they do!! It is a danger to all the children - NOT ON AT ALL.

knowmyrights · 01/03/2010 16:04

I think any punishment for parking infringements like this should involve a day in a wheelchair. Let's see how these people enjoy having to find their way round parked cars, bump up and down kerbs and try to get through doorways.

2shoes · 01/03/2010 16:10

yanbu

sweetkitty · 01/03/2010 16:20

YANBU Most parents at our school turn up early and park considerately. There is always one who turns up at 1 minute to 3, parks on the zig zags right outside the gate and as he has had to park halfway up the pavement then proceeds to reverse up the PAVEMENT outside the gate as the children and parents are coming out. I am going to complain about him.

I have to drive to school as am pregnant with SPD oh and have to drop DD2 at nursery in the morning which is quite a walk away and I couldn't make it for 9am anyway.

Once this one is born I will be putting 2 in a buggy and walking on nice days as it's better than the driving option as I live 10 minutes walk from the school but the number of people who actually live closer and drive their 10 year is astounding.

Yes the parking on the pavement thing is annoying.

As is double parking and blocking the road to allow your child to get out right next to the gates.

And don't even start me on the smokers at the gate or those that allow their dogs to foul the pavement at the school either.

Totally agree Riven, there is also the morons at nursery who park in the disabled bays, knowing full well there are two children in wheelchairs coming in every morning but no they would rather use the disabled spaces that walk an extra 100 yards.

YANBU a woman swore at me the other day when I asked politely if she would move so I didn't have to wheel DS pram in the road. Same woman does it often and on yellow zig zags too. Selfish cow.

sweetkitty · 01/03/2010 16:39

Usually one twat in a sports car dropping off his ONE child whilst I am there heavily pregnant, SPD, 1 year old and 4 year old and I can still hobble across the car park as I wouldn't park in a disabled space.

shockers · 01/03/2010 16:46

I'd print off some little leaflets to stick under their windscreen wipers with this short message;

Today I walked in the road to avoid scratching your car with my (pram/wheelchair/toddlers bike).
Tomorrow I will not.....

Jamieandhismagictorch · 01/03/2010 16:55

YANBU - unfortunately, having children does not cause some people to develop any consideration for anyone else's children

MrsNetz · 01/03/2010 16:56

@shockers good one I think I will do just that!!

Have run parking enforcement and will contact school tomorrow too!

I am now hadenoughnetz!!!!

Err don't go out walking at school pick up time if you don't have DC to pick up ?

What actually gets my goat is people complaining about people who have to drive to pick up their DCs (especially when more and more schools have no drop off points/car parks like our school and especially when more and more people cannot get their DCs into local schools and have to send them outside the area).

Woman who lives right next to a school (did she realise that when she bought it ) shouting at someone this afternoon because they had the audacity to park near her house for all of 10 minutes .

I say that as someone who walks the DCs to school not drives .

erm bigmomma that was wrong why the hell should she stay in, how kind yeah lets tell all ignorant gits out there, if you dont have kids in school dont you dare go any where near a school at opening and closing times. - Get real, she has as much right to be out as those arrogant swines, so all of you who have problems like this at your school report the whole bloody lot, they will soon get pissed off with the tickets, how hard is it - it's ILLEGAL to park over drives, on zigzag lines and bloody disabled spots without a badge. So really those of you that do this are teaching your kids to break the law, what great role models. why not park ten mins away and walk, lazy fuckers, sorry but they piss me off
